All I can say is donโt waste your money on any other printer! Itโs just the best. Low operational cost and it works!

Works great and is double the size of the original one! So I used this one to put the letter size paper , and I put the legal ones in the original drawer. However , this one can take legal as well.

I bought this for the mfcl8900cdw I have installed in my home office. I have to print larger reports a few times a week and needed a larger capacity tray. The installation is easy (you just pick up the printer and place it on top of the tray). Then you just need to make sure the printer driver recognizes the new tray on your computer which involves opening the printer settings and adding the tray. It took me less than five minutes to install and configure. I’ve been using it for about a month and have had no problems. I’m generally very happy with all Brother printer products and have been a repeat customer of theirs for years.

At least my auxiliary drawer functioned for 4 years, but not anymore. I pity the poor folks who got 5 months or so out of this drawer, it is expensive. I too had a fabulous Brother experience with a printer 20 years ago, the MFC 8600, and had an auxiliary drawer. Never had a problem with thge 8600 or the drawer. But the L8900 printer, though serviceable, has had problems. Back to the drawer. I need the auxiliary drawer for legal sized paper. (I don’t know why another writer said it didn’t accept legal, mine does.) I use the printer only for home use, but still have to print legal briefs and copies. My auxiliary drawer will no longer print without stopping each page with the reload paper instruction. I was going to purchase another one out of desperation, but reading other’s similar experiences for duration of such short period of use causes me concern….. Cannot Brother come up with a fix for this?

Like the printer this is attached to, the high capacity paper tray is of a quality that is unsurpassed. Even the box it arrived in was really solid and had the right kind of packing material to protect the contents.
The tray simply sits under the printer. All electrical and mechanical connections are automatic. Ideally, get two people to lift the printer and set it on top of this. It’s difficult if you try to do this alone.
There is a slight visible gap between this tray and the rest of the printer body, but that’s a minor cosmetic issue.
It’s nice to have a ream of bond paper in this tray and use the smaller printer tray for fancy papers.
There are stick on numbers that come with the tray, so you can number them to help remember which is which.
In software, I’ve found that some applications default to tray #1, so that can be annoying. Always check the paper source setting before you print and you’ll get no surprises.
Very solidly built product and a must have to go with the 8700.

Easy peasy

This add on unit was easy to install. I had no issues getting the tray to align with my unit the match up mechanism is great. I have used it for about a month for my business. I’ve not had any printing issues specific to this tray or stemming from it. I highly recommend this if you need to give your unit an boost.
Con (Added onto a MFCL8900CDW in a home office)
The whole thing is super heavy. May require two people to lift it, depending on your size and ability. It makes an already large unit, taller (does not increase width) but its a big one. It needs its own area, I’m thinking of charging it rent lol.

This was a nice addition to my printer, and made it much more convenient to use without having to refill the paper every day — yes, we print a lot here.
Pro’s:
– Easy to install
– Large capacity
– Easy to refill
– Looks like it was part of the original printer the whole time
Con’s:
– Lifting the main printer in order to set it on this expansion tray needed 2 people — the printer is heavy
– Paper feeding out of this expansion tray jammed on the second and fifth sheet; not sure why, but it hasn’t jammed again after that, and I’m on my third ream of paper at this point. Not sure if the first batch of paper had some crinkles, or if it needed a few sheets to run through for the alignment to truly settle in, but… I’m keeping my eye on it.

Added this to my MFC-L8905 CDW 3 months ago. Lifting the 50+ lb printer was the only difficult task in adding and setting up the highly capable drawer. It adds considerable functionality to the already highly capable 8905. Duplex printing of multiple paper sizes and weights and complex sorting and printing tasks have all been accomplished with perfection. Highly recommended for office and high volume home use. Fun too.
