Canon R10 Portable 2-Sided Document Scanner

I had a Fujitsu document scanner that did a good job, but required special power cords, special software (now obsolete), and was not all that portable. I needed something portable for some complex family legal/health purposes, so I got this Canon scanner. Very happy with the scan quality. Even better, it is powered through the USB connection to the computer AND there is no need to install software. The software launches off of the scanner when the device is plugged in via USB.

Others have reported jams. I’ve had one or two, but they were on non-standard, wrinkled paper. I have had it pick up multiple sheets at times, but if I use the paper guides (which fold out) and make sure the paper is touching the wheels but not jammed in too far, it picks up individual sheets really well. It does duplex (two-sided) scanning, and I can edit the output PDF before saving. Super happy that I got this.

This mobile scanner is a great product for the price. It was very easy to use and provides good quality images. Connectivity is via a usb port to my laptop and any paper jams that happened were due to user error; let me clarify that a per jams were easy to resolve. Overall, this product is great and recommended for personal and home office use. Final note: it uses very little storage space.

 The scanner is so portable! I love how small this is, definitely one of the highlights. When it opens up, it still doesn’t take up a lot of space, and having a feed tray with paper guides is a nice touch.

Minimal items in the box, which is to be expected for a portable scanner, pretty much the scanner, a micro usb to usb cable to connect and power, and instruction guide. I did wish there was a carrying bag or case for it, seeing as how it’s a portable scanner, you would want to have something to carry it around with.
The micro usb connection portion on the scanner is recessed, and has a bit of a gap between the shell and connector, I am concern over time if the connector will get bent and pushed further in, but so far there hasn’t been any issues. Connecting the micro usb feels a bit mushy though, doesn’t feel solid or fully in contact when fully seated.
Once connected to a pc, flipping open the tray automatically turns on the scanner, and the scanner folder automatically pops up (Windows). I love the built-in software, it’s more than enough settings and options for my needs. No additional driver installation needed. The scanner did automatically check for firmware updates, and after a somewhat quick update, it was up and running.
Scanning documents were pretty easy after setting the options to my needs, setting the dpi higher than automatic, for example the maximum 600 dpi, did slow down the scanning process, as expected, higher quality, slower scan. Leaving it on automatic was more than enough for my needs, and my scans came out great. Love that this model is a double-sided scanner, no need to re-feed the sheets to scan the other side.
A complaint though, it seems to struggle when automatically grabbing the sheets to scan, in particular single sheets. When you hit the scan button, you can hear the scanner activate its roller to catch the sheet, but it doesn’t usually catch the sheet initially, you can hear it ramp up the roller to try to catch it again. There been more than a few times that I notice it did not catch the sheet, and would require either retrying to hope it catches it, or just manually pushing the sheet down to help the scanner catch the sheet. I did notice that with multiple sheets, it didn’t miss the catch that often, but you do hear it ramp up the roller when it misses the initial attempt.

Overall, I do enjoy this double-sided scanner, it’s easy to use and super portable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a super compact scanner that can be set up relatively quickly.

I opened the box, hooked it up to my computer and without even reading the directions, was scanning a document in minutes. Very simple to operate and understand. Shoulda bought one of these years ago. It’s also really fast!

I travel for work. Was looking for something better than scanning with an iPad. This fits the task. It scans multiple pages easily. No “keystone” effect where the page is not square like when scanning with an iPad. Portable. I bought a case that I really like. No power cord required means one less cord I have to carry.

Set up was a bit of a challenge. the opening screen to scan could be simplified. There are 3 places to insert the file name you want. You may want to find where to enter the destination path and file name.

Pages sometimes don’t feed, but a slight push will fix it. I’d buy it again.
