Mission Impossible watch. Great watch

Those who purchase this watch solely due to its iconic usage in Mission Impossible may be in for a surprise. The DW290 incredibly well designed and functional. I would go so far as to say that it in many aspects rivals the DW5600 G-Shock.
Despite the complaints I’ve heard regarding the wrist strap, I’ve found it surprisingly comfortable. The watch arrived with the updated module, so the auto-calendar will function without workarounds until 2099.
The sole problem with this piece aside from its controversial aesthetic is the lack of muting capability. This can likely be resolved via disassembly and soldering iron, so it’s something to consider among those with the proper know how.

Love this watch. I have a number of watches from vintage Omegas to G-Shocks to ProTrek to military and Apple watch. Yes, my wife does get annoyed but at this price the DW290-1V is the cost of a few City pints.
The watch is comfortable, quite sturdy, you can put different straps on (think it’s 18mm) and it’s water resistant to 200m.
Functionality is basic – time, alarm countdown and stopwatch, but do I really need a compass and barometer for everyday use? Nope. The backlight is fairly decent as well.
The only issue I do have is that the adjust button is quite recessed and for a sausage fingered person such as myself it can be difficult to press. However, given the basic functionality I don’t need to use it that much.
So, to sum up, a fairly rugged design classic (featured in Mission Impossible), easy wearing, ridiculously low priced watch that can be your daily beater.

The Casio DW290 is an affordable, durable tool for scuba diving suited to other sporting/outdoor activities too.
47.5 x 45.0 x 13.5mm / 60g
This watch was designed to be used for scuba diving so the buttons are easy to use underwater with cold or gloved hands (or cold, gloved hands!), and I can attest to the fact that they work. I have used my GW-M6510 for diving before (as it is rugged and water resistant) but the small, recessed buttons are tricky to operate underwater. Consequently, I wanted something easier to use, but more affordable than a G-Shock, and I chanced upon a review of the DW290 on the Urban Gentry YouTube channel that led me to try this watch.
The plastic strap was stiff and uncomfortable to begin with but softened up after a few days. It is quite long but fits over my wetsuit/semi-drysuit well. In everyday wear the tail of the strap is longer than the keeper so I use a ranger band (made from an old inner tube) to manage it. As this watch is not part of the G-Shock range the strap is not curved and will lie flat if necessary.
The backlight is bright and makes the display easily read in the dark. The two right hand side buttons (“light” and “start”) are reversed compared to my GW-M6510 which took some time to get used to. The module is fairly simple and the functions are: alarm, countdown and stopwatch. One little feature I particularly like is that I can see the time when in countdown or stopwatch mode.
The styling is quite retro (90s) which could be a problem for some people, but I’m old enough that I went to the cinema to see Mission Impossible (1996), consequently, it is not a problem for me. Also, as
Tom Cruise wore a very similar watch in that movie (though on a nato or zulu strap) it is suitable for smaller wrists (6.75”/17.1cm). To clarify, I don’t know how big Tom’s wrists are but I am about the same height as him and it fits my wrists well!
I have used it on about 20 dives so far (maximum depth 32m) and it has been fine.
All in all, I really like it, use it for diving/swimming in the sea 2-3 times a week and consider this watch to be excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

We bought this for our 11 year old son for Christmas and he loves it! He wears it every day and loves using the timer and stopwatch, just like I did with my first Casio at his age. It’s very well made, looks like it’ll hold up well against scratches and whatever boys his age will throw at it. I do wish the bezel would sit a tad higher off the crystal, to better protect it from scratches. This is why I only gave it four stars. It will eventually get scratches because of this.
After searching online for at least a hour, I came across a review mentioning this watch. I’m glad I did. It has the best of styling, features, durability, and best of all price! I’m confident he’ll be wearing this watch well into college, as long as his tastes don’t change…
A week after getting this watch, Target had it on sale for $11 less, but unfortunately Amazon does not price-match, and I did not feel like the hassle of returning this one and paying for shipping.
By the way, we ordered the Casio Men’s G-Shock Classic Digital Watch for our 13 year old son. It looked just like my first Casio and didn’t have the bulky G-Shock look to it. Same features as this watch though.

I was wanting to get another Casio in my collection and came across this CHEAPY! The DW290-1v is a good looking watch that holds up to abuse similarly to the DW5600’s. Maybe not as good looking but it’s very light weight and solid and good for everyday use. The features of the watch work as they should and illumination is very good! The plastic bands are, ok, but feel good when on the wrist. The best thing about this watch is that it has a Pop-culture status too, it was in the movie Mission Impossible and has been seen being worn by an American political figure as well. Overall a nice watch for the price that should hold up to the average persons day to day abuse, that has good features, a good display, and has some cool history. 5 out of 5.

I love this watch. It was famously worn by Tom Cruise in the first Mission Impossible movie, but it’s just a very cool and unique watch even aside from that. It’s a good size with a comfortable strap. It doesn’t really look like any other Casio or G-Shock, despite being tough looking.
andres agredo –
It has everything of the basic you need, and also, the final year of the calendar is 2099. I’m satisfied for buy it.

Very well made, comfortable, good size, and generally good watch.

Wears excellent. Sits comfortably on the wrist like my Seiko divers. So don’t hesitate if you have smaller wrists. Tough as a tank but light weight and no wrist fatigue whatsoever. And last but no less important it looks great. It’s a true tool watch that’s all business. Oh, and it’s all of $35-$39 depending on which seller you go with. I love my automatics but every watch guy or gal has at least one Casio in their collection. This one DEFINITELY deserves a spot in your watch box.
