Casio Men’s Digital Watch | 50M WR

I’ve only had it for two days, but for an eighteen-dollar watch, I don’t need more time to write a review.

It’s a simplistic watch with very minimal features. It has very accurate timing (down to the second), a stopwatch, an alarm, the date, and nothing else. It’s basic and it’s great at it. For nighttime use, it also has a backlight that only turns on when you press and hold the bottom right button. Other than that, it’s worth the money.

I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a watch that tells time and nothing else. But for God’s sake, when (and if) you purchase the watch, keep in mind it is less than twenty dollars! Don’t expect much.

If you require a large watchband or push the limit on a regular band, this one is for choice among similar Casio models. (See my photo comparison with the smaller F-91W.) Additionally, it’s much easier to read than the F-91W clones, has a louder alarm, and this one has a light that actually lets you read the time in the dark easily. Unless you have a very small wrist, consider getting this one and trimming the band. (The F-91W looks good on my wife’s wrist.) In general, this watch is an incredible value. I’m a watch aficionado with a range of watches, some expensive. Everyone in the watch world respects these classics. Don’t let the small price fool you. Yes, I wear mine on workouts (stopwatch feature is easy to use) and when spending time outdoors. But I also sometimes wear it instead of something that costs much more because this one is cool too! Quartz accuracy beats some of the excellent mechanical watches. And never a service necessary. At the end of its 5-7 year life, just get a new one.

This particular Casio is a great everyday wear watch. I like the simple design and the dial and digits are fairly large and easy to read at a quick glance. The watch is also 50m water resistant which is more than enough for the typical person.

The case is plastic and backing is metal the band is resin. There are several versions of this watch and I went with the “gold trim line” because of it’s trim and font style and also because of it’s more unique bronze LCD color.

I also have the “dress” band version the B650W which has an interesting simple more dressy appearance. I included a photo of the two side by side for comparison.

I would recommend one of the black resin versions for regular wear “beater/abuse” wear because the black resin will hold up to wear and tear well. The B650W is great but much more of a casual wear watch and costs about $10 more than it’s black resin cousins and the case itself is metal colored resin.

I recommend both get yourself one of the black resin W-217 versions as an every day beater and get the B650W when you want a slightly more refined look but want something different from an A158/168 model Casio.

You won’t regret getting this. I have a few nicer metal analog watches but wanted more of an everyday watch. One that I could go hiking, boating, etc without having to worry about damage or losing it.

You can’t go wrong for around $25. Here’s a few pros and cons.

Pros:
-inexpensive
-from a trusted brand
-simple design, easy to use
-can display 24hr time

Cons:
-I find as a right handed watch wearer that while moving sometimes I hit the button to change between 12 and 24 hr time. I prefer to stay on 24 hr time so I wish the button wasn’t quite so sensitive
-as far as I can tell, the buckle on the strap is plastic. Seeing as it is quite thin, I suspect it’ll probably break at some point and I’ll have to get a new band (or for the price, just a new watch).

What a fantastic watch! The rightful successor to the venerable Casio F91W this iteration is an instant classic with a larger body and display, and longer strap giving a better fit for adult wrists. It does everything a watch should do (accurately tell the time) plus a few of the extras we’ve come to expect and take granted from digital quartz watches (day/date, alarm, hourly chime, stop watch, night illumination). This is an unpretentious everyday watch that is so lightweight and comfortable you’re likely to forget you’re wearing it. It is delightfully retro in style but classic enough to still be contemporary. Don’t even think twice about getting this watch. It is worth every one of the few dollars it costs and, as I began this review…FANTASTIC!
