This cello is very nicely made and it sounds very good, after some upgrades. It comes with lots of stuff, the stand is an extremely useful accessory.
So on to the upgrades. The strings that came with it are just absolute crap. It would be better for the cello to be sold without strings. You’ll need to buy three things to make this cello perform:
– strings (a decent set of student strings will cost ~$50)
– peg lubricant (some magical stuff made by a company called W.E.Hill from England)
– rosin (~$10)
Even with the added ~$70, this is a fantastic deal for a very nice instrument. The cost is about the same as renting a student cello for about 6 months.
Because of how well the instrument sounds, how well it is made and what an incredible deal it is, I’m not going to deduct any stars for having to replace the strings.

I got this cello as my first cello and it isn’t the best. I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the wood, my cello had a ding in the top left corner when I got it. The fine tuner adjustments are very hard to turn and are continuing to get harder. My bow was horrible and I have to get a new one, the glue is coming off of the top. Also on the bow it is coming apart on the bottom and makes it hard to play with. The cello case has broken a few times on the outside already and I had to sew it. Also on the inside of the case the Velcro has broken and doesn’t work anymore. The bridge isn’t shaped right and it affects the A string. I would recommend just spending the extra money and getting a cello of better quality. This was definitely a waste of my money.

I purchased this cello thinking I was getting a great deal, 2 cases, a bow, stand extra strings, rosin and a cello. When I first received my cello, there was a large crack down the front and there were multiple scuff marks all over. Amazon sent me a replacement which I received and was in good condition. I took the cello to a local luthier to get set up and tuned, but he refused to even touch the instrument. This brand was at the top of their list of instruments they cannot work on. After comparing this cello with one of theirs, you can see this is a poorly made instrument. The wood doesn’t look real, the pegs look like they will break soon, the bridge is crap. There is just a layer of heavy paint and a shiny lacquer that make it look semi decent. They said that cello needed new strings ($100) a new bridge ($120), and everything else would probably break off within a couple of weeks of playing. A decent cello, even for a student should start at $1200. Used should cost no less than $800. I ended up doing a rent to own program from a local store and got a brand new Yamaha cello, it is beautiful and plays wonderfully and is made to last. I highly recommend getting a better quality brand, it will cost a lot more, but you won’t regret it.

I have played the violin for more than 20 years and all that time yearned to play the cello, as well, but I didn’t want to spend $1000 to buy one, so this package deal of cello plus hard and soft cases, bow, extra strings, and rosin was difficult to pass by. I am largely happy with the purchase.
The cello sounds decent…it sounds like a cello…the only problem being that the bow was badly warped to the side and the frog structure isn’t securely attached, although I can use it. Since the bow is cheap, I’m not too surprised that the wood could have warped en route from China. I asked a local violin/cello repair person how much it might cost to fix the bow, if it were possible, and he said probably $200, so doing that would be pointless! Also, since the cello seems to be in good condition I didn’t want to return the whole package in case the next cello wasn’t as good! So, I’m keeping the bow and plan to purchase another one by a different manufacturer later.
As others described, you do have to set the bridge up, and no instructions come with the cello…although I was touched that the bridge was tied on with lovely green ribbon. I used instructions that I found online at […] to set up the bridge and tune the cello. The cello had no flaws that I could see. The soundpost was still standing when it arrived, which made me glad. The exterior varnish on the body looks as in the picture, although it dribbles off rather sloppily when you look in the soundholes. Maybe all cellos look like that! I haven’t actually ever noticed before. The fretboard and tailpiece and pegs all seem in good condition.
As others wrote, I wish that the manufacturers provided only the hard case and not the soft case that comes with the cello. The hard case is nicer than I expected, with a soft red interior, a good-sized compartment for storage, and two slots for bows. There was one tiny white spot on the outside that appeared to be a bird dropping…a little gift from a Chinese bird, I guess, but I was able to wash that off. I feel the cello stand isn’t going to be useful for me. I wish the money that the manufacturers put into creating the soft case and the cello stand would have been shifted into creating a higher quality bow!
Overall the cello seems like a good one for beginners to use and the low price makes it a bargain. Even the warped bow works. I joke that “Cecilio” is Chinese for “cheap cello,” but since that is what I wanted I am not disappointed. It is a decent, inexpensive instrument, and I can see that the people who made it took care when constructing it. If they worked in the U.S. instead of China, they would have been able to charge much more for the cello!

Someday I may want to upgrade from this cello, but for now this is a perfect instrument for me to use to toughen up my fingers, get used to the hand positions on a cello, and strengthen my bowing hand, while making surprisingly melodious notes for such an inexpensive instrument! It is hard to make a cello sound bad. I would buy this package deal again, despite the warped bow.

This cello came rather quickly, well-packed, and everything was included just as it says. I’ve played and recorded this cello to great success. I’m sure it doesn’t compare to a high quality expensive cello at all, but I am extremely satisfied. The top and back look like decent quality carved wood, probably spruce, and the construction overall is fantastic for the price. It stays in tune well, and if you have any concerns about tuning peg slippage, just tap some rosin from the bow around the pin where it fits into the hole. I bought a clip-on vibration/mic tuner that stays on the bridge making tuning and checking easy. The fine tuners work well. The tone of this instrument is nice overall, although it may not sound refined and tight like a world class cello. It does have sufficient volume, although a better string grab could probably be achieved by a quality entry level bow. The common cello wolf tone doesn’t seem to exist on my instrument, but some notes are louder while others are not as strong, which is to be expected of a student cello. The bridge matches the fingerboard quite well, and I still am on the original set of included strings. The rosin and bow are adequate. Probably after playing this for a solid year I may just purchase a new bow and rosin, if necessary, but right now I am able to compose and record with this cello with no issues whatsoever. If only this came with an end pin anchor of some kind, I’d never have to leave the house after receiving this in the mail. I may supply a link later with recorded examples of this cello.
