I was impressed by this product from the start. It feels like a solid, well-made appliance that’s simple to use, with five temperature settings, no leaks, and a compact design. It holds 350 ml, which is about the size of a very large coffee mug—larger than what I typically use, as my coffee tends to go cold before I finish it. The cord is short, about 27 inches long, which seems to be by design so that it fits inside the unit when not in use. This short length did not hinder its performance during testing. It comes with a felt, drawstring tote bag and clear, concise instructions.

Although the idiom “a watched pot never boils” seems true for this device, it generally heats water no longer than my larger electric kettle and seems faster than boiling water on a stovetop. Here are the times it took to reach the five water temperatures from a cold start using cool tap water:
113 degrees: 2 minutes, 07 seconds
140 degrees: 3:05
176 degrees: 4:48
195 degrees: 6:12
212 degrees: 7:07

On subsequent uses, while the unit was warm from previous boils, it heated each temperature more quickly: 113 degrees took only 1:18, and 195 degrees took 5:53. The light changes from blue to yellow/orange to red as it reaches each higher temperature, with clear real-time temperature readings.

Once your preset temperature is reached, this device maintains the water at that temperature for up to two hours—a great feature if you drink multiple cups of a hot beverage and refill/boil after each use. Additionally, the unit is quiet and only starts making a faint sound around 150 degrees. Even then, the sound is hardly noticeable, and the unit itself only becomes slightly warm to the touch when lifting to pour.

Overall, I find this appliance to be very handy, especially for dorm rooms or hotel rooms where the in-room coffee pot might not heat water to your preference. I am very pleased with this product and its performance.

I obtained this to use in my vehicle to heat water using my vehicle inverter that is rated at 400 watts maximum. Overall, seems the unit will perform the intended function, though it does take over 8 minutes to boil 12 ounce of water.

The first unit I received heated water, but only 2 of the 3 digits in the display worked, and the vertical slot did not light up (blue, yellow, red) as indicated in the manual. After 3 information exchanges via email with the vendor, they sent a replacement unit (arrived a couple weeks after I sent my initial email). Vendor gets 5 stars for customer service by sending a replacement unit (that appears to work properly so far). Overall a 4.5 stars as some specs, as noted below, don’t appear to be the same as in the manual. Here’s a summary of my initial testing of the unit. Product labeling lists unit as having a 300 watt power draw – I measured 288-292 watts using my meter. Unit consumed 0.03 kwh to boil 12 ounces of water and sit for 2 hours (with the lid on, the 2 hr after boiling temp was 136 F). When the unit is plugged in and “off” (display shows 3 horizontal lines), the power draw was 0.0 watts (less than 1/10th of a watt). Product capacity is 12 ounces (300 ml) as indicated. It took 8 min and 35 seconds to bring 12 ounces to a full boil from a starting temperature of 68 degrees F. During heating, the vertical slot changed colors at the temperature points indicated in the manual – starts at blue, changes to yellow at 123 F, and to red at 159 F. I set the unit to “212” and proceeded to take readings at random intervals. Here is the data: T=68 F at 0 sec, 100 F at 36 sec, 123 F at 2:48, 159 F at 4:20, 186 F at 6:11, 190 F at 6:38, 194 F at 7:44, 195 F at 8:11 (starting to boil at surface), 197 F at 8:35 (boiling vigorously – Note – my thermometer correctly captured the temp at this point at 212 F – not sure why the unit display showed 197). Also, near the end of the heating period, the unit heater cycled on and off several times as it neared the boiling point. Once the water was boiling vigorously, the display went to “bb” indicating the desired temp had been reached and the power draw went to zero.

I continued to monitor the temperature of the water for just over 2 hours after vigorous boiling. The unit continued to display “bb” after 2 hours (it did not shut off, or have the display go to 3 horizontal lines as indicated in the manual; however, the power draw was still showing 0.0 watts during this time). The unit kept the water hot during this period, and the heater came on twice for about 30 sec to 1 min each time, to add heat to the water. Here are a few of my readings; T=190 F at 18 min, T=151 F at 1 hr 4 min, T= 144 F at 1 hr 34 min (heater came on for about 30-60 sec at 291 watts), 141 F at 1 hr 55 min (heater came on for about 30-60 sec).
