This knife combines a simple, traditional hunting knife design that is practical (for its purpose) with a beautiful fit and finish that not only looks good, but feels good in the hand. The kraton handle on this knife is very grippy and gives you a good purchase, different and better than the handle on my CS Recon Scout. The full flat grind blade has a nice 3/16 of an inch thickness of VG-1 laminated Japanese steel, and is nicely polished. While I haven’t vigorously tested the edge yet, it came razor sharp out of the box (nice job Cold Steel) and cut 550 paracord like butter. The sheath is also practical in its design and materials, basically a durable hardened plastic with a nylon belt attachment that can attach to your belt without taking it off. Also can be mounted onto a pack through the lashing holes. Sheath has better than good retention on the knife so it won’t slip out (better retention than my Recon Scout sheath). Also, the spine of the blade has very sharp corners and throws awesome sparks on a firesteel. Most of my fixed blades are made of carbon steel, so I wanted to find a good stainless one that I could use for camping/food prep and even throw in my survival pack and not be concerned with it rusting. Obviously, this would also make a good hunting knife, but probably better served for larger game such as deer. For the money, I think this is one of the best fixed blade knives in its size class that you can buy.

3 layered laminated steel , with VG-10 at cutting edge. Made to high quality standards. Machining done to perfection. No minor flaws as with handmade knife. Perfect symmetry between sides. Tip sharpened perfectly. Rubber handle grips well.

Agree fully with statement on box – “We subject (our products) to the highest standards in the industry and strive to make each as perfect as possible.”

This thing is perfect, I own a SRK in Sk5 as well but this is best for edc. You cant beat the grip and this blade will perform. You cant go wrong.

Razor sharp out of the box, the Layers look Great.

Thank you COLD STEEL for providing another Amazing knife for my collection.

Me parece un buen cuchillo en general, con buenos materiales. La única observación es que la espiga no sobresale al final del cuchillo, como dato curioso.

Ok so here’s the deal I just got this knife a few days ago and haven’t done much cutting with it, as yet! I am quite impressed with this japanese made marvel! The blade thickness is quite beefy and the sharpness out of the box was astounding! At first I worried that perhaps the kraton handle would be to grippy and not feel well in the hand, that is not the case and the checkering in the handle is really quite nice and comfy! This is without a doubt the best knife I have ever purchased and wish I had done it much sooner! I have been quite taken with cutlery since childhood and own some very nice knives, but had I bought this one first I would have never needed another one, this one fits the bill for absolutely everything. Hunting and fishing, trapping, and even survival pretty much anything you would use a knife for would be a breeze with this knife!!!! I especially like the drop point blade design as it is my favorite design! Also the sheath is a pleasant surprise the knife squeezes into the sheath and wont fall out if inverted! the concealex must be like the kydex material the other companies boast so much about! I have paracorded a sharpening stone to the sheath and intend to have this knife with me for every adventure in the woods from now on! Oh yeah the square edge on the back of the blade will work perfectly with a fire steel! In closing you just can’t get much better than this one! The san mai 111 is amazing too! If you want an excellent knife at a reasonable price look no further THIS IS THE ONE! GOOD LUCK!

UPDATE!! this was my go to knife till I got my Fallkniven F1 it is a bit more expensive but a much better knife! The master hunter wont be seeing as much use these days! It is still a good knife but cant hold a candle to the F1!

Okay. So you might be wondering why you need this knife. I will tell you. But first off, let me remind you that this is my opinion. Everyone believes something different and has a different opinion. So don’t let anything I say offend you. I am 17 years old and my Hunter has field-dressed, skinned, and processed several deer and cleaned countless dove, many pheasants and even a turkey. My dad has had one at least as long as I’ve been alive and has cleaned more deer than I’ve ever seen with it. In fact, he bought another one because he liked it so much. This is one of the best hunting knives that money can buy, if not the best. First, why you don’t want to buy other knives:
    1. Cheap knives- Most people have the Schrade, Gerber, knockoff brand, etc. that cost $10 or less. You get what you pay for: a dull piece of *#%@ knife that doesn’t hold an edge, won’t sharpen well and breaks and chips easily. The sheath gets torn up quickly and the handle breaks and/or has no comfort, whatsoever. Unless you plan on never using it again, there is no sense in NOT getting a more expensive knife. This knife has a quality steel that is easy to sharpen and holds an edge. It is 3/16″ thick. That will hold up and more to any normal hunting situations, even survival if your hunting trip goes awry. In fact, I use it to break the pelvic bone by pounding on the end of the handle with my fist. Also, the handle is awesome. It is comfortable and grips your hand even when wet. So if the handle gets rain on it or gets bloody, you can still use it without fear of slippage. The one downside is that the high carbon blade rusts more easily than Stainless Steel. But some silicone spray before it’s put away will prevent rust.
    2. More expensive knives- This knife is perfect for the average hunter it is a good-looking knife in design, but I will admit that the handle could look better. But what’s important is you know that your money is being spent on functional, hardy Kray-ex instead of wood or bone which does not have nearly as much grip and will likely not last as long as other materials. Besides, the Master Hunter is not so pretty that you don’t want to get it dirty or bloody.
    3. Longer or shorter knives- You definitely don’t want any longer knives. Longer knives make it harder to make those precision cuts and they are harder to carry. Shorter knives are alright, but I like the size of this because the the handle is very comfortable, the larger size is more useful in possible survival situations, and also, to be frank, the size of the blade compared to the handle make it look good, unlike the large handle to small blade ratio of the Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter.
To be honest, if I could go back to when I bought this knife, I might choose a different one . The only reason would be so I could buy the guthook version of this knife or the new version with the American 3V steel and the black blade coating. This will always be my favorite hunting knife and is in fact my favorite knife, period. I hope this helped in your decision on choosing a knife.
