Corsair Obsidian Series 1000D Super-Tower Case

This case is quite large designed to run a huge amount of watercooling. 1 280mm rad 1 420mm rad and 2 480mm rads make this thing whisper quiet even with it drawing huge amounts of power. my setup is for 4 gpus 3 on the main board and 1 on the server board. it only has native support for 5 hard drives an extended atx and a mini itx but if the cables aren’t a total mess you fit an additional 6 3.5 inch hard drives in the back. There is a decent amount of space left inside even after mounting 45mm radiators with fans on both sides you could manage likely anthor 12 hard drives in that space if you bought the nessarcy mounting devices. my setup used 2 1.75 liter water tanks and 4 pumps with a total of 7liters of water to fill all the radiators and water blocks. Using an extended atx motherboard with a 12900k and a mini with 5950x ryzen cpu for my server. It makes for an amazing gaming computer and plex/server when I finally get the second cpu. my setup would allow for 4 mining graphics cards and up to 21 chia hard drives all in one box. Even on sale though expect to shell out close to 1000$ on fans if you go the corsair route.

It’s very sturdy even after loading it with parts and haven’t had any issues with bending other than my back when I try to lift the sucker for maintenance.
The assembly easy as long as you have the strength for it, my god it’s heavy.
Room capacity can probably fit like… I don’t know uh… A ton. I mean you can probably fit 2 atx motherboards side by side with enough willpower. It’s a very, very large case.
Airflow is, how do I put this… It’s very big. If you need more details refer to online pictures with 30+ fans.
I mean the noise isn’t there if you’re just talking about the case. With fans it’s still pretty good at staying quiet. I mean as quiet as 13 fans get.
Overall a very fun case to work with and very much future proof. Just make sure to get a gym membership with it as well so you can lift it when you need to move.

I recently bought the Corsair 500D SE case and it was the first case I’ve ever built on that had cable management. That was quite interesting and made my OCD go into overdrive but in the end the extra time spent planning out the wire routes was worth it. Frustrating at times but fun. Considering it’s my first time on a more modern case, I think it looks pretty good.

The two hinged panels are one of my favorite features of the case and only require one screw each to remove them for building. There are numerous channels, cutaways and slots for rerouting your wires and I really suggest taking the time to plan that out. If you have experience with cable management it’ll probably be no issue for you, but for someone with no prior experience, give yourself the time to plan it out and don’t fret when you have to disconnect everything over and over to get it right. Do it correctly the first time. This isn’t to intimidate you, but to give you a heads up that this case requires a bit more attention to detail to make everything appealing.

The case comes with removable brackets (2) for mounting your cooling set up in the front or top, and they only require two thumb screws to remove rapidly. Very convenient for your radiators and fans.

On the rear the case comes with a metal bracket to hide the wires that go up the main channel, making everything look that much more sleek…you’re mileage will vary if you are able to use it or not once everything is wired up. I wasn’t but I could care less about that. I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to make the cables routed to work with that bracket.

3 Corsair LL120 RGB fans are included, mounted in front. The RGB hub and Commander hub are included as well.

This case came at a rather high price but I’m very satisfied. You can probably find cases cheaper, but this one had all the features I was looking for, good airflow, tempered glass, lots of fan mounts, hinged panels, didn’t look like a boring enclosed cube.

Pros:
Hinged side panels are awesome
Very nice quality material
Tempered glass panels
3 Included fans
2 included hubs for fans/rgb control*
Lots of space for activities
Lots of options for managing your cables
Very quiet (with my 6 fans and the pump running)
Removable Magnetic Mesh filters (some love them for dust collection, some hate them for air restriction)

Cons:
-The cover on top isn’t the best design, being restrictive to top mounted fans/rads. I wish it was easier to remove (the screws for it are in frustrating spots) or if we were able to buy an “upgrade” panel that offers way more airflow. As is, there’s an array of tiny triangles cut into the top panel and a mesh screen below that. The way the top panel is formed is just a bad design IMO. Not a deal breaker but leaves something to be desired.
-Expensive
-Stock hub locations (wherever factory decides to stick them) are terrible however, they probably are just stuck there for shipping/storage and are intended for you to remount elsewhere, they include 2 strips of 3M double sided tape for just that reason. I didn’t realize that at first and tried to make it work. LOL don’t do that. I remounted them to a HDD slot for the commander hub and removed an SSD slot for the rgb controller location.

*I HIGHLY SUGGEST moving the fan hubs to the back of the case, I wouldn’t even try to make it work in the stock positions. The factory located them to the front of the PSU shroud inside the case (you can sort of see them in the first picture) and I’m letting you know now, there’s no way of making your pc look good with those stock positions for the Corsair Commander hub thing, and if you add an additional rear fan like I did, you’ll quickly see why (the last pic shows there’s no good way to hide the cable, you have to go through the back instead) It was a bit of a hassle finding a spot the hubs would actually mount to (due to raised areas and such) and I opted for the layout shown in the pictures, it works very well for me.

In summary:
I truly love the way this case looks, and it was frustratingly fun to build in. I mean that in a good way. I’ve built quite a few PCs over the years but I enjoyed learning how to build to this case a lot…even if it meant a ton of unplugging and replugging of cables. Everything looks and feels great in the end. Thermals appear to be very decent so far, but would probably be even further improved by a more well designed top panel.

I just recently bought my friends computer, as I was in the market and he happened to be selling his for personal reasons.

My Previous setup was more than 6 years old, and I had never built/swapped a computer before (would always buy full prebuilt). This is what I got from him.

– 850W Gold Semi-Modular EVGA PSU
– Deep Rock 3 CPU Cooler

All in a Thermaltake core v71 case…

Honestly the case he provided was more than sufficient and is a really nice case, you can look it up on amazon, but I personally did not like the case, so I looked at a ton of different cases, not only to fit the components he has built on, but one to look nice, then I found this case here. I did a lot of research on cases, and pricing them out and it was between this one and the DarkFlash Phantom case… After reading tons of reviews about the cases, the fans, etc, I chose to go with this case…andI couldn’t be more happy! The case is a little more on the pricey side, but I would urge you to compare fan prices and quality, along with the commander pro and lighting link that it comes with. Compare that with Thermaltake or fitting out an empty case with 6 fans+ and you’re probably around the same price or more expensive.

Onto the case…

It came very well packed, no issues with the case quality or components… The commander pro was very slightly adhered to the side of the case, but with a small tug it came right off. With no idea what I was doing, I was able to swap out the components of my old case, to this one in 5 hours (I know, it’s a long time). With knowledge, this would honestly take maybe an hour. I purchased an extra LL series fan for the back exhaust, and I also purchased an AIO cooler (Corsair Hyrdro H1150i with 2 ML fans)

I had to go inside the computer a couple of times to clean up the cables, but I blame my own lack of understanding cable management and computers in general to that part. After the 3rd time of going in and rewiring a couple of things, I couldn’t be more happy with how the case performs and what it looks like. It really was the last piece I needed to pull my “nerd”center together!

I could go on and on about the case but I will break it down into bullet points the pros and cons…

Pros:
– Beautiful case
– Durable/heavy with quality materials used for construction
– 3 front fans preinstalled
– Comes with Commander Pro and Lighting Link for fans
– Easy to remove glass side panels/opens very easy
– Easy cable management, especially for beginners
– Comes with all the hardware you need (minus tools)
– Mobo standoffs built into case
– Probably missing more pros, but I think I got the major ones

Cons:
– Some tight spaces to configure some of the wires (probably to be expected with any case)
– PSU bay can be tight and a little tedious to get all the cables into, a bigger PSU than mine may struggle
– Not the greatest instructions/manual comes with the case

All in all, I would recommend this case to anyone looking to get a lot of RGB and an amazing looking final product, if you are patient enough. I would also recommend to beginners like myself either building or swapping to a new case.

As a side note, I have the 3 front fans as intake, and the back and top radiator fans as exhaust (so 3 and 3), here are my temps…

IDLE:
GPU: 40c-45c
CPU: 30c-35c

Under Load (no overclock):
GPU: 69c steady
CPU: 45c up to a spike of 62c once

I hope this helps people in deciding which will be their next case. Can’t recommend it enough!
