This is a well made instrument for people like me who are just learning to play and want to be rewarded with a nice sound. It arrives with the bridge not in place and with cheap strings. Plan to spend another $150-200 bringing it up to speed. I had a local violin maker make a new bridge, adjust a slight warp in the fingerboard. put on better strings and adjust the sound post.

Also comes with a very nice case.

I own a Gliga Vasile Maestro (Romania) from 2004 and have been recently searching for a new violin for travel purposes. This violin had a lovely 1 piece maple back like my Gliga Vasile, but the build quality of this violin is nowhere near my Gliga. This violin seems like it was rushed. The edges were rough, the varnish uneven in certain edges. My Gliga was very well refined and flawless in many ways compared to this especially at over $1,000. Unfortunately, I found a better violin elsewhere for significantly less with amazing sound quality, so I decided not to set the bridge up to test the sound quality since I wanted to sent it back in brand new condition.

The case itself is sturdy, although I personally did not like the handles. I feel as if over time, the strap will wear and tear and eventually fall apart. The interior of the case also felt as if it was cheaply made.

Note that this violin did not come fully set up and did not have tags like the Cremona SV-800 or below. In my pictures you can see that the bridge is still tucked under the tailpiece wrapped in something similar to tissue paper.

It sounds like a 2k violin after you change evah strings and aubert bridge.

I was a little disappointed with this item as I had previously purchased several years ago a model SV-1220 which I consider was better made and has a better, more even tone. Also, the bow that came with this violin was fit for the trash can; the hair on it was badly discolored almost as if rust was on it and it did not draw out any quality of tone from the instrument. I used another bow and the A,D, and E strings sound good; the violin does have a good projection and is easy to play. However, the G string sounds quite fuzzy. This was not so with my model 1220 which I am still quite happy with. I did not purchase this violin to better the 1220; it was at a good price and I was in a situation where I was traveling and needed a violin and did not have my other instruments on hand. It did the job for me, but I feel the Cremona Co. Needs more uniformity in quality control.

Volume, Playability, Overall Sound, The Wood is Extremely precise and beautiful.
I only changed the strings to Evah Gold, it sounded great before but now, amazing.
This Cremona SV 1500 is I think better than Sky violin and DZ violin which I suggest you don’t buy ever.

Overall, pleased with this violin. I was looking for a full-size violin for my child from a reputable maker that wouldn’t break the bank. We’ve purchased other less expensive Cremonas (here on Amazon) and the violin teacher has been impressed with the sound they make. That being said, it pays to be patient (if you have the time) as the price on Amazon does fluctuate (check camel camel camel .com).

    Positives:

    1. Beautiful, even finish. The luthier we use was very impressed with the ebony detail on the underside, bottom part the neck.
    2. Decent J. La Salle octagonal bow.
    3. Bridge was already cut for the specific violin so no modifications were needed (at least with the one we got).
    2. Great violin case. The TL-35 Travelite can hold 4 bows. It has a large covered compartment above the violin that’s big enough to hold a chin rest and a tuner and 2 smaller covered compartments for items such as rosin and extra strings. The zippered outside pocket, the size of the case, can hold music. And it comes with 2 straps so you can backpack it.

    Negatives:

    1. Strings weren’t very good. Plan on spending about $50 on a set of strings likeย

JSI Special 4/4 Violin String Set: Gold Label Ball-End E & Dominant A, D, and G Strings – Medium Gauge

    2. The included tailpiece only has a fine tuner on the E string. If you want fine tuners on all the strings, then you can either purchase individual fine tuners for the other strings or buy a tailpiece with built-in fine tuners like we did:ย

Wittner 4/4 Violin Ultra Composite Tailpiece with 4-tuners and Nylon Tailgut

    3. The sound post needed to be moved slightly.

We took the violin along with the new strings and tailpiece to our luthier. The installation, along with adjusting the sound post, cost us $20. Total additional cost for us was about $90.

Finally, the chin rest and tailpiece on the violin we received were the more traditional black in color – NOT brown as pictured.
