At 2Tb, the Crucial solid-state drive (SSD )is thin, small, and symmetrical. The first one we purchased had a non-working USB-C cable, however we were able to exchange it for another one at no cost to us, and no refund-then-repurchase runaround.
It is not the fastest advertised speed out there (search Sandisk Extreme) but compared to the old hard-disk drives (HDDs) that we have been using, this is fast enough, and we barely have the hardware to take advantage of its maximum speeds.
This capacity meant that photos and videos taking up storage on our cell phones could be backed up, with plenty of room for games, music, and videos. Note that 2Tb isn’t a lot of room for 4K video editing or anything like that; for daily household and school uses this is plenty.
The plug is USB-C, so your tv must have that type of plug (or you buy a USB-A adapter separately), and your tv can read 2Tb hard drives (most have capacity limits) if you want to plug that into a tv. For a monitor you will need a computer to read its contents as well as a USB-C cable, or an adapter.
My worry is that because it’s so small and it’s the colour black, one of these days I will drop it, it bounces on the floor, and lose it. I suppose I could put a bright sticker on it but I don’t know how that will affect its heat dissipation. So far it’s safe, being treated well and I haven’t travelled with it much. Once the child gets older they will get one of these as well; at their age they will most likely lose it (heck, I might lose it, it is THAT small).
Great purchase.

Like its size and portability. Fits in my pocket. Easy to use for mass storage of songs, videos, and photos. Very fast access in my laptop when traveling. Am very satisfied with this product.

Iโve had this product for nearly a year now and it has held up beautifully. It runs super fast and can easily manage moving around my 4K video files with ease. I have had some issues lately with it taking a while to register on my computer, but that could be a Mac issue. Holds lots of files and a good purchase.

I got my previous portable storage solution, the platter-based HDD WD My Passport Ultra in 2TB capacity, back in mid-2015. It’s held up for almost eight years and I’ve been very proud of it. Recently it started to click, most likely meaning that it is on its way out. I take that to mean that the read-write head is striking the inside of the case on occasion. It actually happens maybe only once every two or three minutes when it’s idle. So, maybe it’s not that bad. And I could retire it to use as an only-occasionally backup drive – when I was copying and moving content from it to the new drive so it could be more easily accessible, the clicking did not occur nearly as often, so maybe I was worried for not much.
Which is, fortunately, not an issue at all with the new SSD that I got just recently: Crucial X6! Same capacity, taking up the same position on my desk, but incredibly small – and no moving parts to wear out! YAY!
Though of course I don’t know for sure, I imagine that the inside is a small form-factor M.2 drive flanked with heat spreaders – the only other option is that the drive takes up the entire space inside the case.
Either way, the drive is awesome and performs quite quickly for any number of applications. Much more quickly than the old magnetic drive, that’s for sure. A weird thing is that it does not like CrystalDiskMark – creating its test file and then the speed test on it, well, takes a lot longer than I thought it would, whether I keep it on the default of 1 GB or go down to 128 MB. This makes this program unreliable for speed tests in my configuration – if I did not stop the test and let it show the speed that it determined, it would likely be much slower than the actual driveโs speed.
Speaking of my configuration: my computer does not have a USBC port on it natively, and this drive only has a USBC port on it, most likely to save on space and keep the drive as miniscule as it possibly can be. Thus, I had to get a USBC to USBA adapter cable, which I had gotten before for use with another drive. As far as I can tell, without being able to use a benchmark program as previously stated, the functionality and speed is fine with this SUNGUY brand cable. And the cable is fairly snazzy as well as you can see, its nylon-esque cover being braided!
Back at its inception two years ago, this drive was incredibly expensive at $285, and it was only available in 1 and 2 TB variants – now there’s a 4 terabyte variant which I may get sometime. I was able to get this 2 TB variant for $110 and I am very happy about that. In retrospect, it might have been a bit better to be a bit more circumspect about my purchase and spend the extra $20 on the X8, which comes with its own USBA adapter and is apparently faster? (limited by the USBA connection, of course)
But that’s all right – this will do for me for now, and I’m sure that somewhere down the line I will get the X8 as well, and repurpose this drive for maybe an extra storage device for my Xbox One – or the other way around. Goodness knows it’s slow enough with its magnetic drive built in.
So yeah. get this drive if you want a little extra capacity and you’re able to find a good spot for it to sit on your desk. Since it is so lightweight and small and thus likely to get lost if you don’t secure it, I do highly recommend getting cable clips like those little adhesive/silicone ones that can grab onto cables and hold things securely in place – the ones I got have the brand names of OHill, ChefBee and ONME (yeah, I have lots of cables that need securing! ) and are sold here on Amazon for around $10, and come in both white and black (ONME had some Browns in their collection as you can see, but they stopped selling them over the past two years). Do some shopping as your needs entail ๐
Take care, awesome fellow computer people, and happy storing!

Fast enough for 99% of people! Compact and lightweight. But has a good weight and feel on the hand. Has a metal + plastic body. Well made. Easy to use. You can register the product on there website. Would highly recommend.

Got the 500GB drive. I have two PCs, one with a Type-C port and one with only USB3.0. When the Crucial is plugged into the Type-C port I get 300-350MB/sec transfer speeds, very fast. When plugged into a USB3.0 port it is slower than an external SATA drive and I’m getting 35-40MB/sec, half the speed of the SATA, very disappointing. Generally, I only use it on the Type-C port. As others wrote, you need USB3.2 or the Type-C. Also, you only get a Type-C to Type-C cable and need an adapter; you’d think they would include one, could it cost more than a few pennies?

There is the bottleneck of USB to consider but if not super impatient it’s fine. I got it to move stuff off an old 1 TB HD which is almost dead, So coming in on USB and then back out is slow but it’s getting the job done. I have some big games out there on the Crucial now and as I said the load times are slow but once it’s going it’s as good as the old internal. I have 16gb of ram so that helps. A good buy. Beware of super cheap versions out of Asia claiming to have 16TB for 50 dollars etc. Total scam (SD card installed that gives your PC false info about size, could be as little as 80 GB).
