MusicMan007 –
I bought a set of D’Addario Helicore Cello Strings for a recently purchased second cello (which was used). The cello, from a reputable company, came with terrible sounding strings which needed immediate replacements. Since I wanted to compare my two cellos by equalizing the strings and using the same bow, it made sense to order Helicore strings (FYI my primary cello came with the Helicore). As stated in other reviews for this product, the strings made a huge improvement in tone and projection on my second cello. The “o.k.” cello became a decent one simply by changing the strings. I was amazed to find that the Helicore strings made that much difference. Now, I’m really sold on the Helicore strings. I believe it’s worth spending $100 on this set. I highly recommend it.
Perhaps, you may be wondering how the comparison of the cellos went. My primary cello (newer but better material) easily won, but my second cello is not too far behind now.
Update (9/15/2013): Since my earlier post above, I’ve purchased third cello, and as in the past, I’ve ordered a new set of Helicore and replaced the strings that came with the cello. I, of course, played the cello with the original strings first, but they were not good enough for me. The new set of Helicore made amazing difference once again. The Helicore strings on the first and second cellos are still performing wonderfully. I love Helicore, but I am planning to test out a different set of strings next time. I will write a review, comparing the set with Hlicore. Until then, happy celling!

Put these on a cello I just bought in the 3k range. The existing A string broke from age, so I decided to go all in with a new set. These strings were selected for my celllo by the original maker, and oh my do they sound incredible! The sound is not exactly “bright” but has the fullness and richness to bring out that extra dimension of sound from the instrument body itself.
Only downside, they might exaggerate your wolf tone. Because the harmonics are so rich (and there’s just plain more sound coming out of the instrument) , you may find that your wolf has moved, or split. I’m waiting for a wolf tuner I ordered to arrive, to see how it balances these.
They also break in very quickly, only had them on for a couple days, and the tuning was very stable. Was surprised to come back the 3rd day and find my D and A strings still in tune.

Wife likes these, and they sound OK. Seems like they are easier for her to press down on these than the last set. But wow, I have a hard time with the price. But if you’re loaded and money doesn’t mean as much too you, don’t be afraid of these. They seem like decent strings.

Boa para uma utilização básica.

I use these on my Yamaha SVC-110 and my acoustic cello. They sound great and don’t break the bank.

Made a huge difference in my made in china cello.
I would have preferred Zyex strings, but as I could not find them I chose to go with this full set. They have so far lasted well and worked better than expected.

Parfait, très satisfait de cette corde de la, qui ”couine” bien moins que mon ancienne ”d’addario prélude”. je suis très satisfait. le son est plus chaud également.

I have an Ammoon (Chinese factory) cello and it is my first cello. It came with with a set of strings that sell for $7.23. The D’Addario strings were an amazing improvement. It took me a little while to get used to the feeling of good strings and the additional volume (and my fingers not turning black as they did with the old strings). I think the original strings were light tension and the change to medium tension gave the additional volume. The strings settled in quickly and feel great under the bow. I’m been having a great time with the instrument ever since. The next step was to fit the bridge and lower the string height and I now have a cello that sounds good and is easy to play. The strings cost was 75% of the original cost of the cello but they were worth it.

No me gustó porque se apaga inmediatamente el sonido, claro en cada chelo es diferente,se que a mí chelo le van prelude, flexocor y jargar, pero está definitivamente no

I upgraded from a student cello to an Eastman MC-405. My teacher recommended getting something better than student grade strings for it, so I decided to give the Helicores a try. The C, G, and D string are great! They have a nice tone and are easy to play, the A string, however…. the A string is has a very harsh, tinny, metallic sound to it. I brought this up on a Facebook cello group, and it turns out that this is a very common opinion. No less than a dozen people recommended getting a Larsen A string to go with a Helicore C G and D. That seems to have fixed the problem! I am still loving the CG and D strings though!

I’m a violin teacher of a lot of young students. Violinists have strong preferences for their strings, but this brand seems to work well for most student instruments. It’s got a nice robust sound, with a nice warm-bright balance. I use a different string for my personal instrument, and recommend other strings for more advanced students, but this is my go-to for younger students for quality and affordability.

A great value with a nice woody texture. Nice neutral sound. Good for chamber music or orchestra.
