I’m a Plumbing apprentice and have to say that this 1/2″ puller works great on stops. Use it about twice a week. Hasn’t failed me yet.

    * Please make sure that your water is off before attempting to remove a stop!

This product really works. I have used it three times with success each time. First: it did not crush the 1/2 inch copper pipe that I used it on. Second: it is well built. It does not bend or get twisted out of shape when you use it. Third: it does not take much effort to use it. The “silver’ handle that you turn is long enough that you can twist it fairly easily. You don’t have to be a gorilla to use this tool successfully. Fourth: the handle that you turn is a “slider.” It will move back and forth through a pivot point in the center of the tool. This is very useful if you are using it on a stop valve that is close to the floor. The handle will not bang into the floor. It is similar to the sliding handle on a professional vise.

Before I used it, I put a drop of oil on the outlet side of the ferrule to help it slide off. Having used the tool, I don’t think that the oil was necessary. I originally thought that this puller was made to pull the ferrule off, so I hooked it on the pipe between the ferrule and the nut. That was my mistake. The tool will not work this way. It is made to apply pressure to the back side of the nut which will pull the ferrule off. That is a good design.

Keep in mind that this tool is used to remove a compression fitting. When the ferrule is removed, the 1/2 inch copper tubing will be slightly compressed where the ferrule was, and there is nothing you can do about that.

This is a marvelous tool that I have not seen in the local home center stores. When I was young and stupid, I would cut the ferrules off using a rotary tool like a dremel tool with a small fiberglass cutoff wheel. That took forever. I am sure other people have tried using a hack saw to do the same thing.

I had six valves I needed to change that had 1/2 copper pipe. I tried the first one with this tool over the compression fitting. Tightened it down and slipped off the fitting. I then thought would put nut next to compression fitting and worked great! Couple of the fittings were quite tight and was hard to turn. Fitting came off and pipe was not deformed at all! The part of tool that fits in pipe is made so it keeps pipe from collapsing when tightened. Changed all six and used pipe seal on threads and none had any leaks! Changed a few before I got this and had to grip so hard deformed pipe. Like to have never got it to stop leaking. This tool is well worth the money. Could not have done these valves without it.

I was looking for a ferrule puller to remove old leaking compression sleeves and found this one. I have a house with about twenty five 1/2″ copper pipes with compression sleeves on since the eighties.  I purchased the tool it was simple to remove the nut and compression ring from 1/2″ copper pipe. I love how much time I save around cutting the old pipes. I had some corroded valves as well and I just turn the lever to extract the old compression sleeve from the pipe. They come off effortlessly. I was amazed. Great tool, easy to use in relatively tight spots. I’ve recommended this to all my apprentices and fellow plumbers.

So tool was well made from quality perspective. However, my issue was when I removed the first ferrule it basically got stuck onto the end of the tool tip versus just falling off of it once removed. Disappointed based on research I had done ahead of time.
