Appears to be a good little compressor, oil filled piston.

As with most DeWalt products the manuals usually cover more than one model so you need to be careful so you dont screw up. I received the compressor in the original bashed carton. I crossed my fingers and opened it. No damage that I could see. I filled it with the supplied oil (6oz) and ran the break-in for 30 minutes. Closed off the 2 drain plugs and the compressor tanks pressurized. It cut off and held pressure for an hour so I guess all is well. Its not horribly heavy, but neither is it a lightweight. Its somewhat quieter than my old 6 gallon pancake. The noise has a different tone, so its not nearly as annoying as the pancake was. I will use this in my shop and use my D55140 1 gal for my trim jobs. Recommend both. Longevity is to be seen, but for now Im satisfied.

My first compressor and first DeWalt anything. I’m just a home mr fix-it want-to-be,but this compressor worked great. I used it for building a garbage enclosure. I went cheap on the nail gun and had zero problems with anything. I controlled the sink dept of my nail with the pressure from the compressor – worked like a charm.
This compressor was pretty quite for its size, it held it’s air very well and it got to the required pressure needed very quickly. As mentioned – I’m no professional, but I’m not sure how this tool could have performed any better.
Only downside, it’s a little heavy and the “tote” handle could be a touch higher — you’re hand will almost hit the pressure gauage when you grabbing it.
Would buy again with no hesitation.

I bought this unit on October 21, 2009, it still runs every day.
I bought for building a home, fences and cleaning up things like car filters(saved tons), vacuum filters, etc. I never bought any air and cabin filters for 5 of my cars which saved tons.
I am leaving this renew because I have used almost 10yrs, and it still runs fine.

This is a great little compressor. I bought it due to the reviews here and the low price. I just completed a hardwood flooring project and the unit worked flawlessly. It is quiet and from empty to full took only a minute or so. I gave it 4 stars because when I unpacked it, it had oil all over it indicating (to me) that the box had been tipped over at some point.

The mfgr should stipulate that this machine will not stand up to daily use All I got out of it was six months before the reed valves gave out after only moderate air demand that did not result in compressor running continuously or for long periods. And then, their one-man-band repair guy had it for six months and never once called me saying it was repaired. I drove by the place one day and demanded they return it or I would report this to the police as a theft. I got the compressor back, dirty and covered with cobwebs (interpret that as you will) and I never even bothered to test it, as I was so disgusted and as I had long since bought a large oil lubed 80 gallon Husky.

If you want a reliable compressor, avoid these oilless pieces of junk. None of them are any good. Fortunately, oil-lubed piston pump prices have come way down.

I bought this compressor after the one I had died on me. I did not have any packaging problems or issues and it worked fine. Major problem for me is that it requires to be plugged into an outlet and an extension cord should not be used. I used an extension cord (properly rated) and it did not provide enough power, it would start up then make a whining noise and did not pressurize. I consulted Dewalt Service Store to determine what the problem was and they said it worked fine with them. I did some research on my own and through trouble shooting, I determined it was the power, now I run a longer hose so the compressor can sit by the outlet, not a major issue and it has been working fine since then. Not a lot of info on Dewalt website for trouble shooting, found the website […] to be useful in resolving my issue.

I bought this thing a few months ago and finally fired it up yesterday. It works great. I put up some Wainscoting using a new Senco brad nailer, and it was incredibly easy. It’s not too loud either. On the downside, this thing is pretty heavy. I’ve never used an air compressor before, so I read the directions thoroughly. The directions are HORRIBLE. They are not specific to this item, and the drawings look like they were made by a third grader and photocopied on a Mao-Tse Tung era photocopier. You simply cannot find what they are referring to. It repeatedly says to drain the thing after each use, but apparently the drain plugs unscrew in reverse (it releases the air, and opens the drain as you tighten it). Some of the DeWalt units have a level on the release valve, but this has a small textured screw cap. It’s also confusing as to how you release the air in the main tanks. I know most of you reading this probably already have used an air compressor before, so this won’t really apply, but for the novices you may want to visit Home Depot, find an old guy working there that knows what he’s talking about, and have him point out how to work the thing. Other than that, this is a great unit that hopefully will last for years of home improvement projects (crown moulding, wainscotting, etc).
