I am a contractor and work with steel ,aluminum and stainless and demand the best from my tools. this grinder motor stays at constant rpm even under heavy load. I like the kick back break nice safety feature and the variable speed is nice for slow controlled cuts and sanding and polishing . All around good tool , well worth the money.

It is a good grinder. It can handle quite a bit but can overheat with prolonged use.

TLDR, grinder performance amazing. Worth the $200 something I bought if for on here.

    Now, the full review
Yes, I know its technically a 5″ angle grinder.
For reference on how I know this grinder is for real, I’m a welding student at a tech college who makes a lot of bad welds at school and on ye old home welder and has to grind them, gouge them, wire brush clean parts, and cut parts with cutoff disks. I’m comparing this to the other 4.5″ angle grinders I regulary or semi-regularly use: 7 amp dewalt corded (good and cost friendly), 11 amp dewalt corded (really its the poor mans version of this, still not bad), Chicago Electric 4.5 amps, milwaukee M18 fuel, craftsman 20V, and Ingersoll Rand air grinder.
This Dewalt is superior to performance in every way to all of these in all ways except weight (compared to air grinder, duh) and that it has a cord (compared to the 2 battery powered grinders, also duh). This grinder legitimately has more power and torq than an air grinder. Compared the 11 amp dewalt brushed corded, it is about the same weight, slightly skinnier and the power is way higher than the 11 to 13 amp jump. The brushless motor makes a big difference. I cannot emphasize how much power this thing has. You can be grinding and put ridiculous pressure on it and it slows down only the slightest. I have played around with the variable speed and found there is not much reason to go slower than full speed. I had to remove some bad welds in 1/4″ mild steel plate. I used grinding wheels. The grinder acted more like I had cutoff wheels on it. Just be careful about blowing your houses fuse/circuit breaker. I blew a 15amp one at my house (albeit with a microwave on at the same time). There is almost no vibration when this thing runs; so smooth. Finally, the handling of this thing is superb. The body is small, easy to handle and lightweight. The one touch guard is awesome (just like it is on all the other dewalt grinders).
If you are looking to buy an electric corded angle grinder, this is the top dog.

Excellent all around. Does what a grinder should. If you’re new to brushless be ready for the noise, very loud

It sounds horribly loud. like it’s about to fall apart. The Dewalt box is torn, ripped and taped up. Looks like its been thrown around playing catch with it and dropped a couple dozen times. I have my doubts that it’s new! Refirbished poorly at best! Not sure I like anything about it!
