I tried to buy cordless buffers they were much less expensive. But they didn’t work I kept breaking the heads off and could not use them. I went through three of them before I finally bit the bullet and bought the DeWalt. Make sure you grab a hold of it with two hands this thing has power and it works awesome.

I’ve been putting off getting one of these for a few years and have been using a low-end orbital polisher to wax my boat.
This machine made a grueling job into a “not so bad” job.
The variable speed is convenient and in no time, I was able to “feel” what this machine would do and at what speed to use. I was a little skeptical about the loop and hook system for the pads, but they work flawlessly. Other backing adapters can be purchased for different pad types, and I believe this model comes equipped with different backing pads, so read the description.
It’s a little heavy and you’ll feel it when waxing a 26′ or larger boat or RV, but it cuts down on redoing sections.
For a car I would imagine this would not be an issue.
I would buy it again.

Bought this to polish our two cars – one is a traditional slick black paint and is 4 years old – the finish had lots of fine scratching from automatic car washing (no, I’m not the type to hand wash…I know it’s better, but I just don’t have the time). The other car is 6 months old and has a nice factory finish and I wanted to keep it bright and shiny. So far, this tool has done well. My brief observations are:
The tool is heavy duty – it runs continuously with no problem and can handle reasonably heavy loads. I wouldn’t quite call it commercial grade but it is very close to it. The average pro working on cars will unlikely tap the tool’s potential.
The tool does heat up after continuous use – it doesn’t blow hot air from the cooling fan on the user, but there are a couple of metal spots on the body of the tool that get hot – the handles are fine but if you grab the body of the tool to set it down or pick it up, you won’t get burned but it will get your attention.
The soft start feature is nice, but there is one quirk: Pulling the trigger too rapidly causes the tool to overshoot the targeted RPM. When the spindle is just starting, the constant RPM feature appears to adjust input voltage or current to maintain the RPM based on the user’s input into the trigger. Pull the trigger a little too fast and the tool ramps up the power rather fast – if the tool isn’t under load, the spindle will spin too fast and gradually settle into the target RPM. This isn’t a big deal as any reasonable user will find the modulation perfect for polishing – but if your finger slips or you accidentally goose the trigger while using it, the tool will respond with a big jump in power. That can catch you off guard a little if you don’t anticipate it. The tool has some logic in it – the trigger is more “fly by wire” than a traditional trigger. That’s a good thing, but you have to re-train yourself a little to get the most out of it.
The tool is pretty quiet – it operates nice and smooth and at a reasonable sound level.
Weight it a tad heavy – if you use it all day long there is a trade-off between weight and the durability of the tool. I think this one is just right for how it is positioned, but the average joe will definitely notice his/her arms if you use it for a few hours and haven’t done so before. Not a big deal, but it is worth noting.
The power cord is nice and beefy – no worries there.
The wool/lint filter for the cooling air intakes is a nice touch.
The nose end with the loop-style handle attached is a little tight when polishing around outside mirrors and a few other places, but overall the tool provides good clearances all around.
I’m not familiar with similar offerings from Porter Cable, but it looks like there are only a few big names that make a comparable polisher – I wouldn’t think you will be displeased with any of them. I have owned a number of DeWalt power tools over the years and this one is on par with the quality you expect from them, if not better.

This tool was excellent, lots of torque. I had no problem using it. Controls work well and ergonomic. It looks like a reliable tool for the long term. Worth it.

Itโs powerful, easy to handle, and leaves a flawless finish on surfaces. The build quality is solid, making it a reliable tool.

Previously I have purchased 2 Tradespro 7inch polishing machines. Both were complete garbage. Sent them back and spent double the money on this Dewalt. All I can tell is that worth every penny to buy a quality piece of equipment. This Dewalt machine looks very well built. Looks and feels strong during operation. Rpm selector works like dream between 600-3500. Shaft well balanced. Motor sounds strong. Wire also looks heavy duty well rubberized. Very happy with the product especially because it was on sale for CAD189.99 Big retail stores in the nearby offering the same machine for CAD320 so for the price of 189.99 is a very good deal.

This is a good quality value alternative to more expensive professional DA/Random Orbital polishers. It is a bit on the heavy side but that alleviates the need to put extra pressure or weight on the polisher as I run it. Iโm a novice to car polishing and watched many YouTube videos (DIY Detail) which convince me to have rotary polisher and still do a good job. Pleased to see that I got rid of many blemishes on my cars with this polisher and foam pads. A worthy investment !

I’ll preface this by saying I don’t have a ton of buffing experience, but at this point I’ve probably spent 40ish hours polishing with tools. I started a large polishing job (a 45′ outrigger canoe) and was initially using a different brand to start the job. After a bunch of hours, I realized I’d like my own polisher to use at home.
The DeWalt polisher works really well compared to the other brand I was using. The soft-start combined with the speed selector switch and the variable trigger is a great feature. The ergonomics are great, and it’s easy to change the max speed with your thumb as you’re working. It makes it easy to slowly ramp up the speed of the polishing wheel without flinging compound everywhere.
One of the few cons is that some people might find this tool is big and heavy, so if you spend a lot of time polishing vertical panels it can be tiring. When you’re working on horizontal surfaces, it just floats along without any trouble.
At the end of the day, this tool got the job done and it was easy to use. I don’t think I could pick up the old polisher I started the job with because it’s nowhere near as good. Obviously, there are a lot of factors with polishing things, between pad types and polishing compound, so that is probably the bigger factor in doing a good job. But in terms of spinning a polishing pad around, this tool does the job well.
