Used to remove paint and texture from concrete patio to prepare for tiling. Worked great. Awesome tool!

We had to waterproof basement. This grinder is woman friendly and/or beginner friendly.
Speed adjust is on a click wheel and the on switch locks on. For safety, there is an instant shutoff brake.
The dust housing works perfectly! The diamond wheel cuts beautifully. I recommend to add the DeWalt
dust separator 6 gallon and the Craftsman 16 gallon shop vac. Run the bag and filter on the shop vac so in case the bag tears, the filter will keep clean. The dust cyclone traps 95-98% of the dust. The vac is the power source and insurance. These tools are contractor quality (just toss the bag that comes in vac and replace with Powertec bags [twice as thick])

I recently chiseled away an old ceramic floor from the early 80’s (yes it was ugly..), what was left could be described as something similar to a relief map of the Himalayan mountains minus snowy peaks and Yeti tracks. The remaining concrete/thinset/ceramic/epoxy (yes someone cheated years ago on a patch job) proved to be stubborn to all but a 3lb sledge and hardened chisel. Having many DeWalt tools and being mostly pleased with their performance I chose to give this guy a try. Summary:
The Good:
1. Ergonomics – Handle placement and controls are well though out. I set the speed and ran 2-3 sq feet to get a feel then went to town.
2. Grind-ability – Ample torque to handle even the highest peaks of the remaining flooring substrate. I experienced little to no kick-back when transitioning from smallest to largest of the pinnacles.
The Neutral:
1. Dust Catcher – While very effective in minimizing dust from the flattening of the hills, the front of the dust guard opens fairly easily when bumping up against a corner or wall. Once I ran a few more yards along a wall I was able to get around this little nuance by making the closest pass from right to left ensuring the guard would stay in the closed position. Here a little stronger detente or slide lock in the plastic retention feature would be good.
2. Retention thumb screws for the handle – The female receptacle for the thumb screws needs to incorporate either a nylock type nut or a ratcheted base. I found after a few hours of grinding that the handle screws would loosen. Not a big deal as they have beefy caps that are easy to turn and torque down again.
3. This is not a daily use tool so it would be nice to see a hard case or tool bag for storage.
The Needs Improvement:
1. Speed control for the brush-less motor – Maybe I am biased here because I have done a lot of development for brush-less motor controllers in the medical field, but I find the transitions between speeds to be “chunky”. Having variable speeds is an A+ and in no way does the transition between speed settings affect overall performance, I would just like to see the steps have a smoother transition.
In conclusion, this is another DeWalt tool that is a win. Value for capability is high. Build quality is high. I am impressed how well this thing chews through the slag that was left from the floor. Bonus points for having a side handle included so it can double as a grinder when the flooring work is done.
Hometown Construction –
Works great, variable speeds, smooth, and never runs hot while continuous grinding.

When paired with the proper blade, it makes the cut in stone feel like cutting through butter.
It was so easy I accidentally cut too deep on my first try, because my previous grinder was a cheap brand and I got used to having to apply force for the cheap grinders to cut properly.
It’s high power, it got a good kick when you start up the machine, same for when you turn it off.
That being said, the power is great for cutting and grinding stones and hard surfaces.

The grinder works but the part meant to vacuum the dust didn’t fit.

Bought this DeWalt 6″ Surface Grinder kit (DWE46253) to use for for my residential remodeling company. We used to use scaler heads on jackhammers to remove thinset before we got our hands on this grinder. We also purchased the DeWalt DWV010 Dust Extractor which connected effortlessly right out of the box. The combination works wonders and the included diamond cup lasted quite a while. While I don’t have an exact number, the included diamond cup has removed thousands of square feet of thinset.
The DeWalt DWE46253 has plenty of power to grind through significantly thick layers of thinset with ease and the included D shaped handle is adjustable to maximize user efficiency. Using a diamond cup with a dust extractor is significantly faster than trying to use a scaler blade on a jackhammer. When we’re not using this grinder for thinset removal, we slap on a tile blade for those complex tile cuts that are too annoying to do on our wet saw.
If you’re looking for a thinset removal tool that can multipurpose as a grinder, tile cutter, etc, this may be your grinder.
Jack of all trades –
Just got done grinding a slab on a screened patio to lay tile. The tool worked well and using two (dust deputy) centrifugal separators in series hooked to a shop vacuum did the trick for separating the concrete sand and dust from the airstream. I was able to grind 50 Sq ft before needing to clean the dust from the shop vac filter as the first collector would grab the solids and the second most all of the fines.
The only thing I would caution is the grinder is powerful and as such requires serious amperage at the breaker and a heavy extension cord to deliver the voltage to the tool without serious voltage drop under load. I have found when working with 15 amp breakers I needed to be careful not to put too much pressure on the grinder to keep from popping the breaker, with 20 amp breakers it was not a problem…..this is not at all the fault of the tool…there is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to A/C motors.

Very solid grinder. My only small tweak suggestion would be the small metal knobs used to adjust and tighten the u handle on top of grinder. The knobs are small and an adjustable works best to tighten down. During my first 2 hours of use one know loosened and then rattled enough to gum up the threads and aliminum housing in which in inserts. I then had to tap and die both the male end of the locking screw and the female portion of the grinders housing. The quick stop brake is great. The noise level is not bad and honestly much less than anticipated. Overall I would but another grinder if I needed it. Worked very well and was comfortable and easy to control.

When hooked up to a solid dust extractor there is virtually no dust.
