The viola is breathtakingly beautiful. The finish is excellent. The quality of sound is excellent. The tonality is excellent. The D’Luca strings are excellent (and it comes with extras)
The bow is medium quality, but that’s fine.
The rosin it came with is cheap, but it’s free rosin so cant complain.
The chin rest is excellent. The tuner is poor but again. It’s free.
The case is excellent. I love the case.
Now for the issues…
I purchased the handmade orchestral 16 inch viola and it was quite expensive, so I’d expect stellar craftsmanship, however one of the fine tuning screws was EXREMELY BENT, and seems like It was just forced in there. It’s barely functional and I’ll need to order a new set of fine tuning screws. But that’s not too expensive.
The big issue here, is that the scroll itself is BENT. It’s at an angle. I dont know if you can tell just by looking at the image, but when looking at the viola downwards from the scroll (which I of course did when I inspected it to make sure the neck and fingerboard were unwarped) the scroll is not in line with the rest of the neck but rather awkwardly tilted over 20 degrees. I’ve never seen this on a viola before.
Now I get that its handmade. And this might be evidence of that, but I’m a little upset to have bought the expensive version and received bent screws and a crooked scroll (which is part of the instrument itself and CANNOT be replaced)
It doesnt affect its playability, and so I would sooner keep it than return it. But I will be reaching out for a possible partial refund or to see if theres anything that can be done short of me having to mail the whole thing back.

The sound of the viola is very good, two or three times louder and clearer than low end Cecilio CVA-500. I am very happy about that.
The two complains I have is that the strings that are installed on the viola are worthless, trying to tune first string and before on tune it broke. Luckily comes with an extra set of strings that for some reason are better quality than the installed ones, and the shoulder rest would not keep fit on the viola, it would loosen and fall every time. Luckily my daughter had an extra one.
The bow and the case are OK quality.

No complaints with the instrument itself. Fit and finish are very nice. Tone is strong and sweet. Nice evenly-grained spruce, highly flamed maple, and what appears to be solid black ebony.
My only complaint is with the way they packed it within the case. The strings were loose, so the bridge popped off. Luckily, there was still a bit of paper protecting the top from the tailpiece. The bow was not secured, so it was flopping around inside the case and there are several small dings in the top of the viola from the frog. I’m keeping it anyway. The dings give it sort of a “distressed” finish that appeals to me, but it could have been packed better.

Fine tuning screw on “D” string was bent. Nut for screw or hole for nut was not square or flush like others. Only option was to return item, replacement not an option. Item was now listed $10-$15 more and was “out of stock”.

This Viola is Easy to play and beautiful sounding. The Viola is easy to set up yourself, the sound post seem’s to be placed at the right spot to get the best tone, The Bow is exceptional, easy to bow and easy to hold , the weight seem’s good. The finger board
doe’s not seem to be Bowed, therefor making playing easier, The Chin rest is a added bonus, I would buy a better Rosin, I love the Finish on the Viola, to me it look’s like a much more expensive Viola, and that include’s the overall sound and ease of playing.
The D’luca Viola is much better than the Cecilio CV600, 500 ; the 2 bow’s were not as good, the sound post had to be repositioned
and trimmed to fit, and the bridge had to be refitted; get ready to spend around 300 or more on the Cecillo Vioila.
Great Viola for the Price.
