I was coming to NYC for the Half Marathon back in March, and needed a pair of boots for the cool, rainy and possibly snowy NY weather. Since I live in tropical weather, I knew that I should get boots that could be versatile, that I could use in milder weather too, or simply for fashion; and if it got too cold in NY I could fix it by using a pair of merino wool socks.
Itโs been a while Iโve seen how cute Dr. Marteenโs boots looked, dressed down or up, but then again, for shoes I might wear 6 days a year I wasnโt convinced to go over budget like that. But after checking the sizing for womenโs boot in their site, I realized that I could also fit into youth sized, so came to Amazon and found these ones at youth prices ๐.
At this point now, my biggest concern was that all Doc Marteensโ reviews mentioned the painful, but worth it, break in process for these, with the race coming up ahead. Fortunately, my desire to look good won me over, crossed my fingers and purchased these.
I am SO glad I did! I used them every single day at NY: went to pick up my race bib and strolled around the city the first day wearing these, and I just felt amazingly comfortable all day long. Wore them the next day, and the next, and the nextโฆ I can just simply say I โค๏ธ my boots.
For reference, my feet are slim; since I fall in a half size I sized up instead of down and that did the trick. Also, I used mid-cushion merino socks and my feet were warm enough at windy 30+ degrees. The toe box felt ample, but not wiggly; the foot bed is very cushioned and so are the insides. I chose to not lace up fully, but up until the 5th hole, and then do like a ballerina wrap around and lace in the front, which not only looks good but also allowed my ankle to have a little freedom. The side zippers slide easily and stay securely closed when up. And the sole was sturdy to stroll out on the streets, bumpy sidewalks, the many stairs in and out of the subway, and didnโt make any squishy sounds indoors. To top it off, my feet were never hurt, which was a huge concern looking forward to running my half marathon (which I PBโd) without sore feet, or after the race. These boots treated my post run sored feet really gently, and allowed me to enjoy more of the city the couple days after.
Iโm very glad with my decision. I could probably fit one size down as well, which in boots, a little smaller looks cuter, but that would have needed some break-in which I could not afford.
So, if you are an adult that fit in the youth sized Dr. Marteens (use the EU size for better reference) go ahead and pamper yourself with these great shoes at a much affordable price point. You will not be disappointed.

Wonderful ankle support for my kid. The double ties come undone all the time, though, and we did need to replace the laces

I bought these because the adult size are pretty expensive. They actually fit great and Iโm a size 8.5 in womanโs. They are super comfy and I love the zipper on the side. They are a size 6Y- so ladies if youโre a size 8-8.5 definitely get these!

First off, I wear a 10 and a half in sneakers. The size 10 Docs in the classic 1460 style fit me perfectly with enough room for thick woolen socks. If you are wanting to put inserts in them and are the same fit as I am, I suggest going a size up.
I’ve worn various Doc’s for twenty years, but this is the first pair of 1460’s I’ve bought since the early 90’s. I honestly don’t know why I waited so long, I guess I just forgot how much I loved them.
To those of you new to boots of these type, you’ll need a few days to wear them in and get them molded to your feet. After the break in period, they become very comfortable, and they look iconic.
As a footnote, I got fitted for the nylon Doc’s as well (I’ll be buying a pair shortly) and I had to go up a size to 11. I guess the nylons run a bit small.

Daughter requested a pair of red docs to compliment her black ones we bought her last year- 17 years old with size 2 feet! saved me a fortune because we have to buy her kids sizes in these boots as theres no adult size 2. She loves them-the comfort, fit, quality and durability are all you expect from this brand-she’s happy, means I’m happy.

We’ve been long-time customers of Doc Martens ~~ many years of trial and error with other sturdy work shoes have been less than positive. The new Docs that arrived a few days ago are just what we wanted: solid, well-made, comfortable, and sure to be worn for years to come. Yes, Docs come with a high price-tag but they are, in our opinion, well-worth the money. Very pleased indeed!
