Great strings

Got a whole long story about these. I’m used to Ken Smith RMM medium’s with 125 non-taper bottoms, however I got this LTD B206SM and the holes in the bridge are so narrow it won’t fit the silk windings (on this or any other wound set). So I noticed on the ESP web site they sell the bass with stock D’Addario strings in 125-30 gauges, however D’Addario doesn’t make a set like that. So I called up D’Addario and asked them to sell me a few sets and they said “sorry, they’re custom, we can’t sell you any”. So like, DR is the only other game in town, in those gauges, without a silk winding. Otherwise I have to go to different gauges, which means recut the nut and reslot the bridge and that’s all too much. I don’t exactly like these strings, they’re too sproingy and too midrangey. They sound more like a guitar actually. I’m looking for thump and these aren’t giving me much, compared to the stock custom D’Addarios that were originally on there. They’re okay for what they are, I’ll probably move to a different type of DR and see if that works better.

My Bass sounds good with these strings!
Darrell R Taylor –
My brand of choice, never looses tone and very strong.
James McCoy –
Awesome tone and quality that never fails to impress. These are amazing strings used by the incredible Marcus Miller who I have met a few times. Definitely one of the best available on the market.
Jman –
I’m a professional musician with over two decades experience. I have been using these strings for several years now. There are not as many options with 6 string sets, I’ve tried various through the years. These have become my go to choice with my fretted bass. They were once branded with Marcus Miller; have a strong mid punch with a tight low-end; good flex for slap techniques I use. Being stainless – and depending on how hard you play – the strings can last a long time, staying in tune and retaining tone.

The description from DR Strings states these are compression wound strings i.e. the outer wire is compressed to an oval before wound onto the string for a smoother feel (see photo and illustration). These are more coarse than DR Sunbeam roundwound strings of the same gauge.

I have been a fan of DR strings for years. I have used or tried a few different sets. They always make a consistent, musical, long lasting ( i.e. fades out slowly to a thud) string in my experience. These keep that reputation.
I put these on a Peavey Cirrus 6 string. ( a sleeper of a great bass). The Peavey has a 35 inch scale, so not any long scale set will work. Some manufacturers make super long scale for this issue. Not DR. Their strings have a generous length that fits no problem.
They give that deep, full, clear piano like tone with ample zing. Bright, but very musically bright. The round core makes the tension lower;so the big, long, elegant Cirrus is very playable. The low B speaks with body and clarity.
One of the very best choices out there for a 6 string bass guitar.
