I wasn’t sure if this kind of mattress pad was available any more. My mom had pads like this and I always thought that’s all you need under the sheets. I’m thrilled I found it. Right after I started sleeping on this mattress protector with sheets over it, of course, I began to experience back ache. The pain got worse and worse as the days went by. I went to the ER on April 30, 2024 with horrible back pain, and was given an IV with potent meds and more meds to take home. The pain never went away fully. As soon as I got in bed, I would feel pain. At this time, I am thinking it is my back, although I have never experienced back pain to this extreme.
After all the medications the ER doctor gave me to take at home were finished, the pain came back with full force. I could not sleep at all. I could not lie in bed. I went back to the ER on May 7, and was admitted to the hospital. At the ER, I was given powerful pain killers. After I was in the hospital for 8 hours, I was just given Tylenol because the pain had subsided. Once in the hospital, I slept like a baby in the hospital bed. When I left the hospital, I had no pain at all.
That night, within 3 minutes of lying in my bed, the pain was terrible. At that point, I realized it could not be my back. Why was I sleeping well in the hospital bed and getting terrible pain within 3 minutes of lying in my bed, where I have a 3-year-old mattress that is super comfortable?
I decided to remove the mattress pad, aeriate the bed for 12 hours with the AC on and the ceiling fan at its highest setting. I washed every single item that ever touched the bed. After that, I put on clean linens, and went to bed. That night, I fell asleep immediately, woke up the next morning without pain and refreshed.
The facts are: I am very sick when lying on this mattress pad. Healthy when the mattress pad is removed.
According to the info presented in Amazon, the underside of the mattress pad is made of TPU, a thermoplastic polyurethane membrane. Supposedly, this substance is nontoxic and odorless. Since this item is made in China, where there is no oversight, I am not sure now if TPU is damaging to human health, or if the substance in this mattress protector is not TPU after all. Regardless, for your own health do not buy this mattress protector!

I bought this for my parents’ home for use in the bedroom. It was super easy to install, much easier than other waterproof pads we have tried in the recent past. Easy to wash and put back on the bed which was a must for my parents. The waterproof mess has seem to be working great, although I think there are other smaller pads they still use, but it’s a great piece of mind that their mattress will not get ruined in case there are accidents. It is not noisy, which is great for sleep and to give them sense of dignity as well when needing a waterproof pad on the bed.

I have a non-standard mattress and so could not use a fitted pad, but instead needed one with straps. This one fits perfectly and seems well-made. And the seller included a hand-written thank you note–a rarity these days! I’m happy to support a family-owned business.
