My ball python is about 3 feet long, and she fits in here perfectly with a bit of room to grow into it. I love how the top comes off, so I can get her out easily. The hole is a great size, not too small like a lot of hides out there. So incredibly easy to clean, no sharp edges. I’ve dropped this thing….more times than I’d like to admit, and it hasn’t broken or cracked. I can tell she feels comfortable and safe, and she can pop her head out and stare at me judgmentally if she so chooses. I’ll be sad when she grows out of it.

I purchased the small cave for my 17″ baby corn snake. He still has plenty of room left in this hide so I won’t have to replace it for a long time. It fits perfectly in a 10 gallon tank. This is where Jasper likes to spend his entire day and will emerge in the evening. I put the dry moss that is included in there and he curls up under it. I just wet the moss for the first time as a moist hide since Jasper is in the process of shedding. Hopefully I will know how well it works for shedding in a few days! Once his shed is complete I will discard the old and add new moss. One thing I also like is that the lid comes off and allows plenty of room if you need to check on your snake. The pictures of Jasper show the hide in a 10 gallon terrarium.
Update: Jasper stayed in this hide for a few days. I checked on him daily and made sure that the moss was moist. Tonight he finally came out and had a perfect shed… his first shed since I bought him.

Nice and smooth texture inside and out. Cool feature that the top comes off for easy access, and the bottom piece even has a little lip around the edge, so if your pet is in there when you take the top off, it shouldn’t disturb them as much if they’re up against the sides. Read from other reviewers not to use the moss, threw it away immediately, but just the bag being in the package had gotten little itchy and scratchy shards of crunchy dry and kinda sharp? moss all over the inside.. At least it was easy to wipe down. Ended up being too small for my snake, and I’m now using it for an art project, but if it were bigger he would have loved it!

This is a brilliantly sturdy product which arrived so well packaged, and gorgeous, for a snake hide. My mistake was that it wasn’t the right size, it is truly tiny so good for a baby snake or a small breed. If that’s you, buy it, it’s a brilliant product. I have a royal python so had to sadly return – thought I might get away with it given she loves small spaces but the entrance to the hide is maybe an inch wide. If there was an XXXL version I would love that.

Solid, heavy, and comes with moss. Will not tip. There were popped bubbles on the inside floor from the molding process, and the edges were super sharp. I had to scrape the bubble edges off with a screwdriver until they were dull. There were two bubbles about the size of a pencil eraser tip, and one like the tip of your pinky fingernail. Not a big deal, but if you don’t look for sharp edges inside, you can miss it. Because of this, -1 star, but I purchased all 3 sizes, and this was the only one with the issue.
The entry hole is much larger than the stock photo shows. The top and left start at the same place, but the right side of the hole extends all the way to the crack that you see, and the bottom is more open. The overall size of the hide is bigger than I thought it would be.
I bought this for my adult male Ball Python (he’s a bit of a runt @ 725g), and initially, I did not think that it was large enough, but he went straight into it with no problems. I popped the top, and there’s plenty of room for growth (see photos). Female BPs get much larger than males, so it may be too small for a large adult female.

I got the large Exo Terra Snake Cave for my corn snake. I’ve been searching for natural looking snake hides that can also be used as humid hides. Because this is fully enclosed it can hold damp moss (it came with a small pack of moss) and assist with shedding. There are a couple holes in the bottom piece (where it was attached to the top one in shipping) that could let moisture leak through, but I don’t think this will be an issue.
It appears relatively sturdy, easy to clean, and it looks nice. It might be a little small for larger rat snakes, but I think it will work well for my corn snake.

Hello out there to all of my fellow reptile, or small animal keepers. I personally have kept for about seven years now, and I am currently keeping two Ball Pythons. The Exo Terra Snake Cave, Large, I find quite perfect to house my Ball Pythons. A really great advantage, is that the two that I ordered about a year or so ago, came with moss for the inside of the caves.
Of course, one of the extreme benefits of moss on the inside of my Ball Python Baby Brothers’ caves/lairs, is that it is an escape for some added humidity. So every time that I am going into each of my Ball Pythons’ individual and separate aquariums daily with a spray bottle filled with water to boost their humidity levels to the appropriate high humidity of %50-70, I squeeze off a spray or two of water, in order to moisten but not soak the moss inside of the caves. The book entitled, Ball Pythons, that I had purchased from my local pet store, clearly states that Ball Pythons actually prefer a smaller more enclosed hide, so the large one of these my Ball Python Baby Brothers absolutely adore. My Ball Pythons are about seven years old, and about three and a half feet long.
If my Ball Pythons were maybe between six inches to a foot longer, I would say that this was too small for them. One of the only disadvantages that I ever have from these caves, is that occasionally when I am taking my Ball Python Baby Brothers out of their aquariums to stretch their legs for a little bit, they will hook their tail through the entrance of their cave, and I will be bringing along the half pound cave top. Within a few minute though, I have separated Snake from cave. This has nothing to do with the caves being too small, but just the persistence
of my Ball Pythons.
One question that I could easily see someone having, is after their bimonthly feeding, are the caves large enough still? Yes, even then they are “tight,” but fine. One of my Ball Python Baby Brothers eats one small rat every two weeks, and my other Ball Python Baby Brother eats four large mice, one immediately after the other, every two weeks. It is a slow slither into their cave, but they just make it inside.
On that note, the only other disadvantage that I could possibly think of with these caves, is that in being such a tight fit, my Ball Python Baby Brothers end up defecating inside of them quite often. Which is really no problem. I mean, if you have an aquarium pet, regardless of where from, you will be cleaning up their presents that they leave for you.
