My gecko LOVES this cave – she sleeps in it all the time. If I remove this cave from her tank, she’s noticeably upset. The magnetic feature works great with one small exception. The cave does not sit perfectly flat against the bottom of her tank. If you pull the magnetic outer piece off, the cave will rock back a few millimeters and may disturb your critter. I found an easy fix to this by putting a small piece of paper towel under the cave to keep it pressed against the glass at all times, regardless if the outer shell is attached or not. The cave is big enough to fit a fully grown Leopard Gecko (see attached photo of my dog, avoiding her humid hide like a dork). Highly recommend this cave.

Vedi foto. Inoltre una delle 3 coppie di calamite/magneti della grotta è arrivata arrugginita con tutta la polvere rossastra come si vede in foto… quindi mi sa che quello che ho ricevuto è stato conservato in condizioni non ottimali per la vernice (o peggio usato, ma non posso dimostrarlo). Considerando che se lo rendessi riceverei solo metà prezzo (l’altra metà è stata curiosamente messa nel costo di spedizione – anche se ho Prime) quindi me lo tengo e amen. Ripeto alla fine non è rotto. Però zero controllo qualità dello stato in cui viene spedita la roba.

I love this thing. I don’t even mind that there are some minor issues with it because its just so amazing to be able to peek in on my little guy while he sleeps. Although my leopard gecko is just a baby, I purchased a size Medium for him to grow into.

This item is sturdy and has a good weight to it. It looks attractive and I would say semi-realistic. To install it, you place the large portion on the inside of the terrarium in a way in which the doorway is accessible to your reptile. Then the small piece goes on the outside of the tank and once placed on the opposite side of the glass, it adheres by magnets to close the den. Simple, right? Well…there are two minor flaws I should mention.

First of all, on my terrarium (Aqueon I think) there is a plastic edge along the bottom both inside and outside. When the rock is in place on the inside floor of the terrarium, it is low enough that the plastic edge partially covers the bottom magnet, both weakening the ability of the pieces to close as tightly and also making the rock less safe. I solved this issue with a bit of padding. I took an extra scrap of terrarium carpet (cardboard would work equally as well) and, after folding it in half, placed it under the rock. This boosted the rock up about a quarter of an inch and allowed all the magnets to sit flush against the glass.

Once my gecko discovered this rock, it became an instant hit. This is now his favorite hiding spot (I also made this his warm hide since I figured he would choose this one over the others). Now here comes minor issue number two. When you remove the outer rock for viewing, if your animal is up against the glass, it is possible that a toe or tail may fall between the glass pane and the inner rock. When I saw this occur I just didn’t put the outer rock back on right away. I went about my business of my geckos nightly feeding and then once he moved, I replaced the rock without incident. This is just an issue to be aware and conscientious of in the use of this product.

Pros:
– provides a great cool hide for your reptiles (keeps the heat out, keeps the cold in)
– magnets are extremely strong, just make sure the bigger part that’s in the tank is secure to the wall, or if you reattach the second piece, it may injure your reptile
– my leopard geckos LOVE this thing

Overall another great product from Exo Terra. If you’re reading posts about geckos losing their tails, it’s because the OWNER decided not to make sure it was secure to the wall before reattaching the second piece. Common sense y’all, if you remove the magnetic second piece, and the primary piece falls a bit to the side, and you reclose it, there’s great risk of injuring your reptile whose toes or tail might be in between the gap.

While the magnets are strong, they aren’t strong enough to hold up the hide on it’s own. The side that sticks outside of the cage ‘hovers’ in the air, and needs something under it to prop it up. This is dangerous if you dont have something good to prop it with, as the hide can fall down and squish or clamp down on your pet, it could easily kill or hurt a reptile. It hovers a complete /inch/ above my desktop. I have a 40 gal.

I have a full grown adult and he loves this rock/hide out. He was surprised when I opened it from the other side, but didn’t spook him into leaving; even the crickets like it in there. As long as you have a stable bottom the rock does not move around when putting the back on and off. Came well packaged
