Ahhh, back when Ryan was still in Panic! Wish I had been listening to this album when it first came out. Legendary. (The CD/case/booklet were perfect. Bought this back in 2018.)

won’t want to get rid of. First off to be honest…it doesnt matter to me what type of music Panic! is labelled as. It matters if you enjoy the music and have fun while listening. I happen to enjoy them plain and simple, none of the they are trying to be “punk” or whatever that’s just lame. If you dont feel their music that’s cool but posting negative reviews when you havent even listened to them is bullcrap or the they are just a Fall Out Boy clone…whatever. I don’t see them out there doing your thing in front of people (many critics)…please stop hating.

Now about the review of this cd. I find myself enjoying the cd for many reasons. The songs are catchy and enjoyable to listen to and the overall feel of the cd is varied from a party type vibe on some tracks to a serious more subdued vibe on other tracks. Everything in between there isn’t even a track on the cd that i didnt find myself humming or tapping my feet too all the while just generally having a good time enjoying all that’s happening.

Some songs of note on “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” include:

    “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”
“But It’s Better If You Do”
“Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have, Without Taking Off Her Clothes (* one of my favs)
    “Time To Dance”
“The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage”
“There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey..”
“Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks”

I also think it’s pretty cool how they title the different songs each having some different meaning. All the while having a sense of humor and rhyme to them as well. Easily one of the better cds that i picked up and is only the beginning for a band that knows how to go out there and have fun while making music. That’s what i enjoy most about PATD looking forward to the next CD by them.

So I am in love with this album. I remember hearing I Write Sins, Not Tragedies when it was first released and really liking it. So I bought the CD, and for whatever reason didn’t bother listening to the other songs. Anyway, I recently had a bit of a Panic! renaissance, and only now am I finally realizing how incredibly brilliant and different-from-anything-I’ve-ever-heard these songs are. I truly cannot praise Ryan Ross enough. He was, what? 18, 19? When he wrote the lyrics. I can’t even imagine being able to write that way, at that age. A few songs are about his alcoholic father, some are about dealing with the pains of growing up, and others just want you to get up and shake what ya got! I only wish he had sung (sang?) some of the background vocals like he does on the Live in Denver and Live in Chicago recordings. His voice is lovely, and contrasts brilliantly with Brendon Urie’s powerhouse vocals. My current favourites are Camisado, Nails For Breakfast,Tacks for Snacks and There’s A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet. I’m a bit older than their average fan, but I’m also a musician and can definitely hear and appreciate the underlying musical complexity in their songs. This will be in heavy rotation on my iPod for a good long while.

So, I won’t act like I didn’t judge this band a tad bit before I got to know them. I had them chalked up to a Pop-punk (two words I cringe to put together) flash in the pan. Normally if something is really well known and popular I tend to think it’s crappy and leave it for the fan girls. But I am never too proud to say I’m wrong, and oh how wrong I was. The tone was set with “The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage”, a catchy little number that had a dark message I could shake my ass to. If you listen to the words on “Nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks” you might just become a better person, I think I did. Same goes for “Time to dance”, I mean these guys are good at making hard topics fun to listen about. And I think thats it; I had fun listening to this album. And Isn’t music supposed to be fun? All and all I’m glad I didn’t let my own self importance get in the way of awesome music, I hope you don’t either. (oh and P.S. “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” made me poop out of love….)
