Despite the low cost, this card works great at 1080p. No trouble connecting it to a few different devices, compatible with OBS software.

My sole purpose in getting this was to be able to connect my Nintendo Switch to my Meta Quest 3 headset. The V69 software update introduced a free app called HDMI Link. With this app, one can connect certain devices to the Quest and essentially use the Quest as a screen for the device (one could previously do this if you sideloaded an Android USB Camera APK). There are some pieces of hardware required to make this work, though. The most important one is a capture card.

With the Switch, it can be connected to the Quest while in docked or portable mode. When docked, the Switch receives power through the dock, and there is an HDMI out port. When not docked, you have to use the USB-C port on the Switch. Additionally, you’re likely going to want or need power going to the Switch and the Quest. For the Quest, I recommend an OTG dongle that has a male USB-C end to connect to the Quest. It would also need a USB-C power port to connect either a battery or cable that connects to a charger, and it would need a USB port, whether it be a USB-C or a USB 3.0 (or higher) port to connect into from your source device. The reason I recommend this is that it’s small, and if you have a headset with a battery pack incorporated into it, it’s very easy to use that to deliver power. Alternatively, you might be able to use a USB-C hub, probably with an extension cable, that has a power port on it, which, if connected to a charger, could provide unlimited power.

Docked, you can get away with a capture card that has an HDMI input and a PD port and a USB-C or USB-A 3.0 (+) output. If it doesn’t have a PD port for power, you’ll likely want to have an additional device between the capture card and the Quest to provide power.

Undocked, you would need a device that is USB-C to HDMI that has a PD port to charge the Switch and then the capture card that connects from that device to the Quest, preferably with a PD port or an additional device between the capture card and the Quest.

The capture card here has an HDMI in and HDMI out, a headphone jack and a mic jack, and it has a USB 3.0 port. It comes with an HDMI cable and a USB cable that has a USB-A 3.0 end and a USB-C end plus a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 adapter. I used the HDMI in port, and then, instead of using the HDMI out port, I connected the USB cable from the USB port on this device to my Quest 3 (through an OTG dongle that had a PD port). It worked perfectly to connect my Switch to my Quest with no discernible lag. I was very happy with the results.

Updated comments below. This is the second USB video capture device I’ve tested. The first one could not handle my test setup (inserting the capture device between my AVR setup and the TV) due to, I think, content protection. I was expecting the same on this device, but amazing, all of my AVR content comes through, Disney+, Netflix, Fandango at Home, etc. Viewing the video on my Windows 10 computer was beautiful and no lag! Doing a test recording however revealed some audio issues. I’ll need to do more extensive testing, but from my preliminary tinkering, the sound of a movie is sent over USB, but no talking. I plugged a wired headset into the headset jack on the unit, but again, just sound and no talking. Something is amiss, and I’ll need to dig into this more. At this time, I’ll rate it a 5 for video capture – beautiful! But with the audio issues, I have to subtract 2 stars as it is not quite usable for me in this state. Again, I need to dig into this and figure out what the issue is; it could be my computer setup, it could be cables, or anything else. Once I’ve done more testing, I’ll update my review with the results.
Updated comments: The vendor reached out to me and offered a variety of solutions to try. I had done all of those prior to posting my initial review, but it was nice to have that support. I did have a chance to try more things. On my Apple TV, I had the audio set to Dolby Atmos. It appears that I can either capture the music and no speech, or speech and no music. I was surprised to see this behavior of “either/or.” Changing the audio to Dolby Digital 5.1 I would get no sound at all. Changing the audio to Stereo and everything worked fine. So it appears if you just have the input source as Stereo, you’ll be fine. I’m changing my review to a 4.5 (it will only show 4 stars) due to the customer support reach-out, and my figuring out the appropriate audio setting. If you need more audio options other than Stereo, you might have to look elsewhere, but for me, knowing this restriction, I’m pleased with this product.
