We got one last week. The freezer took 4 days to get cool, even with turbofreeze on. The refrigerator at least got cool right away. The top ice maker makes a horribly loud noise, and spits out one ice cube every 4 seconds, so if you want a glass of ice, you need at least 30 seconds listening to that loud noise. The bottom ice maker (for which we paid extra, and they had to install separately) doesn’t work at all. The replacement is on backorder for well over a month, so it’s interesting that they have ones to sell, but not ones to replace. GE customer “service” is a joke as well. We reported both ice maker issues, and they’re only fixing one. DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR!

We’ve owned GE refrigerators, ovens and microwave appliances. We had little concern selecting this model as a replacement. However, upon delivery through set-up and operation this product was a sad excuse for a refrigerator. The fit and finish, door closure, shelving, features were absolutely appalling. I would not recommend this unit.

Do not buy this GE refrigerator. I bought one in May of this year and the condenser has already gone out. This is my 2nd GE refeigerator with issues. I would not recommend any GE refrigerator. Wish I had of listened to my gut and bought a different brand. Don’t waste your money.

MAJOR ISSUE: After 6 months of use, I started to notice that my fridge digital temperature reader was reading temps above 40F and milk was going bad. Even after setting the Set Temperature down as far as it could go (34F), the fridge would hover around 42 to 44F. I scheduled a maintenance apt with GE. The techs connected their computer to the fridge USB port and said the fridge fan needed to be replaced. That did nothing. For the second visit, they replaced the control board which still didn’t fix it. The 3rd and 4th time they came out, they said their computer wasn’t displaying any errors and declared “the fridge was working fine”. I even had a mug filled with water left in the fridge for days and dipped a very accurate temperature probe into it which showed 44F. I even took a reading with my infrared thermometer which read 44F. They said my devices may not be accurate. After elevating the issue, they still wouldn’t do anything. So, after 9 months of use, I had to purchase a new fridge (LG this time).
We were happy with our previous LG fridge – here are the differences we noticed with the GE fridge:
1. When you open the right door, you will notice an empty space where a dairy bin would go. Look at the pictures online (you can even see the notches in the frame) and you will see that is something you will have to purchase separately.
2. One of the door bins cracked and fell out. I showed the tech that came for the first visit and he said, ‘yeah, that happens sometimes’. At least he ordered me a new one for no charge (not that I need it now).
3. The water filter alert will blink at the 6 month mark. YOU CAN NOT RESET IT. There is a computer chip in the water filter and MUST purchase an OEM $50 water filter every 6 months.
4. The ice dispenser will sometimes shoot ice on the floor no matter how close you put your cup/water bottle up to it. The ice cubes are on the large size. Sometimes 2 of them will stick together and not fit into your cup.
5. Minor issue – the lighting is poor once you start filling the fridge up.

We bought this fridge on the recommendation of one of their salespeople at the appliance store.
Have only had it 5 days so far and are having our doubts if we made the right choice.
Pros: Love the inside roomy storage compartments. Especially the ones in the doors. Also fine it to be very quiet. Don’t even hear it running, unlike other review comments. Love that it doesn’t show fingerprints!
Cons: Cannot read the words on the outside door water/ice cube dispenser. Have to turn on a light or shine a light on it to see it. This is a big disappointment.
The milk containers & other items placed in the shelving inside the right door are forming moisture on the bottoms causing it to drip every time you pick one up. 😟

It works. Came a little dinged up on sides but wasn’t an issue for us because doesn’t show. Customer service is a little lacking, they were supposed to call me to let me know when being delivered and never did. Fortunately someone happened to be home when they showed up. Fridge itself is a little loud compared to others but works great and for the money not a major complaint. Bought for a house full of college students, they are very happy.

We have a GFE28GYNFS refrigerator only 6 months old. The $50 water filter requires replacement every 3 months! Unless you are ok with spending an additional $200 per year to own this fridge, don’t buy it.
