Product arrived and set up fineโฆMade only one batch of ice then kept cycling the water and โadd waterโ light kept coming on despite being full of water. Emptied tank twice but no luck-same issue. Moved to different location but still no luck. Ugh ๐ฃ I think the refrigeration is defective.

So what can I say that hasn’t been said before. Got this for the wife who loves snacking on sonic style ice and sure it made that ice and it was pretty sweet. Since we live in TX, we’re aware of the hard waters and needing to clean which we kept up with. Noise level wasn’t that bad, pretty quite as I’m super anal about noise level when trying to watch tv or play a video game. Machine started to go south half way between 1st and 2nd cleaning, were it wasn’t sucking up water and when when the machine clean mode was on, kept requesting water when the reservoir was still full. Got it to work again and then 2-3 weeks later quite again and we haven’t had any luck getting it going (this was after 18hrs of the vinegar method of cleaning). Glad we made zip lock bags of ice knowing we were doing the full clean. It did run 3x for cleaning after vinegar process but once we were ready to make ice again, full stop. Got a return setup and currently exploring other machines that aren’t total pieces of crap. Just be aware of do plenty of research before dropping money on this thing.

This product has been a pain ever since I bought it. I have hard to clean it every two weeks otherwise it makes a terrible screeching noise. When I go to app it always tells me to descale. Tonight it kept saying add water when it was full of water plus the side tank. When I drained it, cleaned screen line suggest, then added water back into the water ran out of the screws/feet on the bottom of the machine. Calling support tomorrow to see what they say. Do not buy this!!

I had purchased the Taotronics nugget ice-maker previously and it only lasted a year. It did give me a chance to compare these two products and ultimately, I like the GE better.
You really need the side-tank for this, just buy it. Don’t bother otherwise, it is a pain to fill this manually because the water tank is BELOW the actual ice tray so you literally have to remove the ice tray in order to fill the resovoir, and it doesnt nearly hold enough water. The side-tank holds a gallon and will last days which is FAR better than the stock tank.
The only reason I didnt rate this a 5 is due to insulation. The ice-tray isn’t insulated well so the ice stays somewhat “wet” after a while and clumps together. The Taotronics (and similar styles with the top-flap opener) was far superior to this – it kept ice more frozen, colder and more complete with no hint of melting. The GE is too exposed to the warm air with the thin plastic ice tray right in the front of the machine.
It’s not the end of the world, but it is an engineering oversight, in my opinion. Ice is supposed to be ice after all, not “kind of” frozen. WHen it’s freshly made, it’s fine but if the tray is full and you leave it overnight, say, the ice will all be clumped together and somewhat melted as the clear ice-tray’s front will be exposed to ambient air temps for too long, warming the ice within. If it had a door covering this with a little bit of insulation, it would be prefect. Still very happy to have this – the side-tank really saves the day to where you dont need to worry about whether it’s melted or not since it just makes ice so quickly its not a big deal.

It worked great at first but makes so much racket when it defrosts or makes ice. Iโm not trying to have a device that needs constant maintenance. Iโm OLD and want easy. Kind of stinks to have wake up out of a deep sleep thinking a crazy lilโ baby child is screaming at the top of its lungs in my kitchen. I donโt even have a baby. Oh well, Iโm also too lazy to mess with returns because, ANNOYING. I donโt feel like getting another one to set up and having it do the same thing. Oh well. So Iโll give it a boo boo average rating.

This is the third one of these type of icemaker Iโve owned. This is only one that is quiet. Both of the previous ones made lots of noise and neither one before this lasted more than 6 months. Make sure you use distilled water! Regular water will clog it up especially if you have well water. I love this icemaker !! Itโs been five months now so far so good!
