This is an online product and if you’re familiar with Quicken or Quickbooks, etc, you’ll be right at home. There is a task list with due dates, with some pre-populated tasks that every executor has to do, and you can create your own as they come up. There is a tab for executor expenses as well as your time spent. So every hour is tracked with a description. So I’d enter an expense, and then later pay it, and the balance would be deducted from the account you choose, such as the estate bank account. It keeps a running total of assets, debts, expenses reimbursed, etc.
Note that a major hurdle might be opening the estate bank account, as you need a certified death certificate, EIN from the IRS (can be obtained online in a few minutes), as well as the court appointment document (possibly a certified copy — so be sure to investigate the requirements with a knowledgeable bank rep, which will usually not be a teller or 800-number rep). If you’re an out-of-state executor, it can be more complicated and the sooner you check requirements, the better.
You can run reports which will later be sent to the heirs/judge/attorney/etc. The only thing I’d like to see is the ability to attach files, like receipts or documents, and they’re working on it. Meanwhile Dropbox or Google drive can be used. I’ve had a feedback phone call and they’ve implemented some of my suggestions. I’ve been working with this for about 6 weeks now, and once I got the hang of it, I really like it. I’d bought a book on the topic and then actually sent it back for a refund, because this product pretty much takes care of everything. And unlike print books, it’s up to date.

Prior to my father’s passing I knew nothing of probate and executing the estate process. I purchased Estateexec and immediately started my journey to get educated and organized.
The software package will assist you in the state process as well as federal process. You enter/indicate the state of the decedent.
It has videos and resources that walk you through each step and process. You can download and save on the platform all the important documents needed as you move through probate and the estate process.
It’s impossible to know this is not a sprint it’s a marathon. That being said I am ten months into the probate/estate process and have relied heavily on EstateExec to keep me organized with finances and recording executor entries.
When it came time to utilize a CPA just to cover the taxation process I simply ran reports from EstateExec and supplied documents the CPA requested. It was quite easy just to print documents I had downloaded and and saved in the program.
Finally, it is my belief that using EstateExec has saved the estate thousands of dollars in fees. It should be noted that the customer support has been excellent. Prompt and extremely helpful response occur consistently. I am extremely pleased with EstateExec and the outcomes from utilizing the software.

My mother passed about 2 years ago and my dad this past January. I was named the Executor of the Will and didn’t know where to start. There was no money in the checking account and I was left with a mess. Since there was no money, I was left with general expenses etc….coming out of my personal account. I met with the Probate Officer at the local court house and did a lot of reading and watching YouTube videos. About 3 weeks ago, I watched a video about EstateExec and decided to purchase it on Amazon. I immediately fell in love with the program and wished I had it back in January. I’m currently still navigating Probate and my next task is completely the inventory. I opened a checking account by selling some assets and the program is doing the accounting for me as I need to submit a court approved inventory in July. Also, Dan from EstateExec reached out to me after opening an account with an open invitation with questions. I emailed him this morning and he responded within an hour. I would highly recommend this product as it has all the necessary probat forms or links to your state within the program. There is also a check list of tasks from start to finish.

I like the tabs with timeline and drop down menus. The role of executor is one of trust and fiduciary responsibility. I was determined to act in the best Interest of my mother’s beneficiaries. I sampled the product and it sold me immediately with step by step instructions, lists, worksheets and state specific information, I have the tools for the job! Overall I like the software. Fairly straightforward to use, simple. I love the ability to import transactions from bank account. Had a little difficulty with the payment process with purchasing license to use software. However, Customer Service responded promptly both when I emailed and when I called and were friendly and willing to resolve issue.

After a close friend died, I became the successor trustee and executor. I had performed those duties before for family members but decided my friend’s estate might be more complicated (it isn’t) so I believed the advertising. The software has several user interface issues as well as category limitations but the real problem was the linked financial fields — update them in one location and they weren’t updated in other locations (eg Assets => Distributions). And maybe the reports are useful to some people — they certainly weren’t for me.
While I had a license key, I started with the Trial version. Unfortunately I started after the license return date. But like me my friends are old so I’ll probably be giving the license key to someone soon.
