I actually bought these to use in a circuit I developed for turning on outdoor path lights. This required opening the case, drilling a couple of holes and running two wires from the circuit board back to my control circuit. In the course of doing all this I have gotten to know this product from the inside out. It seems to be well constructed, robust (it held up well to a lot of experimentation and short circuiting that I am quite sure it was not designed for), and easily accessible (important for tinkering with or repairing the unit, if you ever need to). I have had three pairs in operation for about a month outside where they are subject to the elements, and so far they have worked like a charm. The Amazon price was about half the cost at Lowe’s or Home Depot, but they didn’t come with the nice little metal mounting brackets (which I didn’t need anyway).

I would not necessarily describe myself as Mr. Super-Handyman. However, judging by how easy it felt to install these things (rather: replace my defective old ones with these here), I almost want to think of myself as awesome. The truth is: Replacing your old, broken Genie sensors with these new ones could not be simpler. The entire process took may be 10 minutes – if that (of course, I was able to reuse all the existing wiring, which was very convenient.) Worked flawlessly right from the start. Man, I’m good. All joking aside, if you know how to hold a screwdriver, you can do it. (After all, I did)

I purchased a set of these garage door sensors to replace the original ones that were acting up. Well long story short, I ended up having to call out a garage door person to get them to work properly. The problem was in the alignment of the sensors. Even when I had the garage door people out, it took them awhile to get them to work properly. The problem ended up being that the field of the beam was too broad, so every time we hit the button to close the door, the door would close fine until it passed the area where the sensors were, and then it would fault out and return the door back up. We checked everything and NOTHING was in the way of the beam. The service tech finally had to bend out the receiving sensor to face more into the garage to keep the sensor from faulting out when the door would pass by that area. So, I ended up paying the door company a $55.00 service call just to bent out the bracket so they would work properly. So if you run into this issue, just angle the receiving bracket away from the door a bit more and you should be fine. Other than that, once we resolved this issue, they seem to work OK.

Perfect replacement for a Genie garage door opener safety beam. I had a bracket holding some shovels on my garage wall. The bracket bent after some time, allowing the shovels to fall and shatter my garage beams. I thought I would need to buy a new opener or go on ebay for some used beams. Then I searched on Amazon and found these beauties. They did the job, look nicer than my old ones did, and even are easier to connect due to the modern connecting hardware provided that lets you clip the wire right in. No screwing around needed. Mounting bracket is also easier to work with and is well thought out. Looks like it could be used for multiple types of mounting. I was able to find the holes that worked for my situation, drive a couple of screws in the studs to hold the beam in place, connected it and it worked right away. Couldn’t be happier with these. And by the way, the shovel bracket was replaced with a more stout bracket, and has had no problems since.

I’m no electrician so I had trepidation when ordering. Well put the red wires on the same screw post on each sensor & the white wires on the same post & voila, garage door goes up & down flawlessly. I’ve been screwing around with the old sensors for months trying to get them to sync & finally I had enough. Order the sensors & be done with it.

A large lightning storm wiped out several components around the house. Some obvious (pool controller, wifi/modem, several circuit breakers), but somehow both safety sensors for the garage door opening system were rendered inoperative. Difficult to test, the price point encourages a purchase. These are a few minutes to fit, worked perfectly. Definitely would buy again.
