For a long time I was wanting to learn to play the Oboe but was nervous trying to find one that would be a good fit. I didn’t really want to buy a used one and most professional one’s were very expensive new. When I found this one on Amazon I was worried that it wouldn’t be that good of an instrument but I was pleasantly surprised. This Oboe was worth the money paid. It came in great shape and was able to be played right out of the box, something many oboes can’t do. I felt that the key mechanism was more sturdy than some “professional” instruments I played around with at the music store. This lead me to feel that I wouldn’t have to take this in to be adjusted as often as others. The tone isn’t as warm as it could be if the body was made from wood but that’s where they were able to keep the price down. It’s still a beautiful and rich tone. I also feel that the durability is great for kids learning to play in school, this could take a few drops without having to pay someone a lot of money to fix. Sadly I decided to switch to playing the flute instead but if anytime in the future I want to pick the oboe back up this is going to be my go to to start!

Unfortunately, the oboe I received had a few keys that were not working. I took it to the shop to see how much it would be fix it – because if it was cheap then I wouldn’t mind just getting it done, but it would’ve been about $100. I had to return the product the next day. It seemed like it would’ve been fun, but I didn’t get a chance to really try it out. I’m hoping that next time it would be better. However, the return policy was very simple and I do appreciate that. Just a bummer that I didn’t get to enjoy it.

Definitely not professional but great for someone starting or wanting to pick it up as a hobby without breaking the bank. Played right out of the box. The reed that came with it was WAY too hard. I recommend shaving it with a razor if you know how, or order some different ones along with it.

I’m a real user and bought for my daughter and the instrument ever worked. We gone past 30 days Of purchase just thinking that my daughter is still trying to make sound. It end up being the instrument issue. Now cannot return as well. Upset with loss of $400

I really wanted to give this a better review, but alas, cannot. I tried two of these. The first played fine upon opening, a bit of squeakiness and pitch issues (which can also be attributed to my being a beginner). I practiced every day upon receipt. For about 10 days or so, my playing got better, but then the low C, B, and Bb started having issues. They would come out an octave higher. The oboe wasn’t broken or damaged in any way, so I couldn’t tell what was wrong. So I did a return/replacement. When I received the second one, I could tell upon opening that the contents in the case had shifted. I tried playing that same day, and the low B key had issues in that it would not raise up fully upon releasing the lever that controls it. So the low C would then sound a lot like a low B. I could tell something was off with the mechanism-and I had just opened it brand new out of the box (plastic wrap and all). Thus, I returned for a refund. Was hoping it would go better, but will have to seek out an oboe elsewhere. Also, the reed, made of cane, is too hard for a beginner. I bought a medium-soft plastic reed separately, and that worked much better. Not sure why gloves are included, or why the screwdriver looks a bit too large for the tiny screws. The cleaning rag, while good to have, is also too big to pull the whole way through the middle and upper joints-it gets stuck. At least the cork caps and the cork grease are useful additions, though even with the grease, the cork ends were still rather tough to twist during assembly. Oh well-live and learn. Maybe I just got lemons, and this brand can actually play well-but I didn’t have that experience.

Bought this for my son who is in beginning band. At first we thought the off pitch was due to him being a beginner but eventually after trying everything and over a month practicing at home and at school it is a faulty instrument. Waste of money and tons of frustration my son had to endure when it wasn’t his skills but a bad oboe.

The right side of the keys stopped holding notes after a few months of use. I purchased the extended protection and they required me to contact the seller who I couldn’t contact at all. After reaching out to Amazon support three times we were able to come to a solution. I still however need an instrument for my child to play. Very frustrated. Buyer beware.
