I can’t believe I got a decent bass for $70. I bought this to learn using

Rocksmith 2014 Real Tone Cable Trilingual

. Rocksmith has a tuner built into it so that takes care of that. I read the other reviews that said this bass definitely needs to be setup to sound and play correctly. Sure enough, out of the box the bass was playable but my fingers got tired quickly because the action was set so high off the fret board. And there was a twangy, buzz if you strummed the string to play even moderately loud. So, I perused around Amazon and found a pretty cheap little collection of tools to get everything setup on the bass guitar correctly. The bass comes with it’s own truss rod tool and bridge height adjust tool so that’s taken care of. You’ll need a capo to help set the truss rod,

Guitar Picks Guitar Capo Quick Change Acoustic Guitar Accessories Trigger Capo Key Clamp Black With Free 6 Pcs Guitar Picks

. A feeler gauge with both .015 and .022 width thickness,

ABN Universal SAE and Metric Master Feeler Gauge 26-Piece Blade Tool for Measuring Gap Width / Thickness

. A ruler that accurately measures between 3/32 and 4/32 of an inch (.093 – .125 of an inch),

. And a set of grinding files of the appropriate width to file down the fret nut saddle,

ammoon Guitar Fret Nut Saddle Slot Pickguard Grinding File Group Set Luthier Repair Tool 10pcs in 1 Set

. I just followed along with some online setup guides and was able to set it up on my own in about an hour and a half. For me, I found the truss rod was pretty loose. The bridge height action was set at just over 4/32’s on all four strings when really just the top, 4th string needs to be at 4/32. The smaller the string the lower the action needs to be set till the bottom string is at around 3/32. I actually needed to set mine just a bit above 3/32 since it would rattle if I put it right on there. Probably some better strings would let me adjust the height for tighter tolerances. And I had to grind a good bit of material away from the fret nut saddle to bring it down to .022 of an inch. The string length also needed to be tightened just a bit to get the intonation just right. After everything got set this bass guitar turned into a really nice sounding guitarra that plays a clean, mellow note. And the string action became very quick and effortless, which my hand was much grateful of. Basically it’s like from the factory it was set to just being acceptable and everything just needed those last few twists of the screws to tighten everything up to right where it needed to be. Now I’m plucking away to songs on Rocksmith and having a great ole’ time. It takes a little bit of work to get it there, but once it’s setup properly this guitar is a tremendous value.

    Update 2, July 22, 2021
The bass was working great up to this point until the volume knob came loose and quit working. I assumed a pulled wire so i took it into a guitar shop to have them look it over. The guy took the pick guard off and sure enough a pulled wire. So i told him to go ahead and fix it since i was only being charged $10 to do the work. While he did the work the guy told me two in and out wires had been soldered together that shouldnt have been and he was dumbfounded at how the bass was able to work and play through an amp. He proceeded to unsolder all the wires and re-solder the way they should have been which if you read my original review might have been the screaming noise through the jack port i had gotten right out of the box…maybe, dont know. Sounds like manufacturing this bass wasnt top notch. While at the shop i asked the guy to also go ahead and put brand new slinky eddie ball roundwound strings on (because i was still using the strings that came on the bass out of the box). While doing that the tuning keys stripped out at the gears on the back and he ended up breaking a string while trying to tune. He was never able to get the tuning keys to work again. Again another problem that was put of the box from my original review. So the fix of course would be new keys at $40, $10 for the soldering fix, he also gave me an option where hed go through the bass, adjust the bridge, the neck rod and install everything for 80$ coupled with new strings at 40$, everything wouldve come in at $170. To me if you were a beginner And you had no idea how to adjust these things and had no idea how to do any of this this bass wouldve been a total loss. Noway i would pay that to fix a $90 bass. No way. That aside, i could save the $80 by doing the install and adjusting myself, but still at $54 with tax to fix this bass is a pretty hefty. At this point if im gonna spend 170$ i decided im gonna strip it and repaint it and install genuine parts to make it fun. I made it about a year on this bass….you get what you pay for……your choice. Hope this review helps…
    Update1:
Its been over a month and i have to say this little bass is fun. The neck has stayed pretty well dialed. It hasnt really fallen out of tune since the initial tuning. The keys havnt stripped since the initial tune. The crack hasnt gotten bigger. Doesnt seem to be any issue. The plug port still screams if i move the cord at all. I play sitting down so it isnt too much of an issue for me. Im raising my review to 4 stars from 3. Great starter bass…

    Original review:
Ive played bass for many years and have had several bass’. Im not an expert at picking quality, but i do know a good bass when i play one. That being said, i got this bass for a friend whose bass “grew legs and walked off the stage” They do gigs every week with rotating members. The bass they used was essentially used as a “house” bass for anyone to play. So their need for an expensive bass was not required (and with the possibility of it to get stolen again). So, again, i ordered this bass, got it in, and played it before i gave it to her. I read reviews before i ordered. Seemed to have decent reviews. So it seemed like a good choice.

First, i read several reviews where people have said that the headstock needed to be adjusted for string vibration and noises across the frets. I didnt have this problem. The bass came in pretty well dialed. I didnt have to adjust anything on it except, of course, tuning the strings.

The strings are pretty mediocre. Theres not much say about them. They do feel rather smooth, but nothing special.

The pickups are pretty cheap. Sound isnt as crisp as a set of Seymore Duncans. It actually sounds pretty flat to the ear. With a seasoned ear you can tell that, but for the beginner its just fine. You can tell its a bass guitar. It is relatively clear, but not as crisp as an expensive bass.

Now for some issues i had:

I plugged the bass in for the first time and had some feedback and screams from the plug port through my amp. I unplugged and plugged back in several times and the issue eventually seemed to fix itself. Not sure if something inside the plug port was loose or what, but it hasnt done it since.

While tuning the strings the tuning keys stripped several times. And no i was not overtightening the strings. I did eventually get it in tune and so far no problems with it falling out of tune due to the keys.

When i got the bass in my headstock had a pretty gnarly crack in it (see pic). It doesnt seem to be a deep crack but it is definitely a crack and im not sure what the effects of that will be over the long run.

Other than that. The bass plays pretty decent no complaints on actually being able to play and make songs a reality. For the money id say its an ok buy. For a beginner its just fine, itll get you from A to B in learning. Or in my situation needed it to fill a need to get the job done.

I bought this on a whim to learn bass guitar as it’s generally harder to find bass guitars second hand compared to six strings. The price can’t be beat and it’s definitely best to start with an inexpensive model to gauge your level of interest and commitment to the hobby before investing in more expensive equipment.

I had to return it because one of the knobs was broken……other wise it was great. The refund/return process was
handled and went without any issues…response fro, the seller was awsome

sound is poor and strings won’t stay tuned even after playing it for 3 weeks to test it. Although return was approved you must pay for return postage ( imagine how much) and insurance to boot. This is false advertisement as this information is not included in the ad. It just says « returnable in30 days. » otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered it. Amazon A to Z guarantee was no help as well. I will no longer be purchasing large items through Amazon.

I am an avid (though amateur) musician. I play a variety of stringed instruments (violin, acoustic guitar, uklele, and dulcimer) and a few others as well. I ordered this electric bass on a whim, and was happily surprised when it arrived. The packaging was not up to par- there was not much to cushion the instrument and I was worried I would open the package only to find the instrument broken. However, it was fully intact and beauifully- glossy, and of a good weight. It came with everything in the description- the cords and picks were inside of the case. Here’s a rundown on the accessories:

Picks- standard, run of the mill, a nice bonus
Strap- thin, and has the tendency to fall off of bass. I usually play while sitting, so its not much of an issue, but I would recommend buying a higher quality one if you want to perform with this bass
    Cords- sturdy, good quality
Bag- not padded, thin plastic, lightweight, good for transportation

Now, as many others have said, the wood is soft and will dent easily. For me, this wasn’t too much of a problem, as I intend to keep it inside (no traveling or anything with it). If you would want to travel, I’d suggest investing in a case with a little more padding. The head of bass is unfinished, but is a nice smooth wood. I ordered the blue color, but the blue doesn’t show up too much. It is a gorgeous instrument, however. It was incredibly easy to set up, and I was playing within twenty minutes.

Highly recommend as a gift or for a beginner
