Purchased for switching over to VOIP to save a bunch of money de-bundling Comcast services and going to Internet only. The Grandstream works fine. Comcast is… Comcast. ‘Are you really, SUPER sure you want to cancel those services? We can sign you up to pay us more money for more stuff you just finished telling us you don’t need instead. You should do that.’

Happy with the device. Be aware that you can run into a bit of a lag between when your ringer would start to ring with normal phone service, and when it will start ringing with VOIP – not sure if that is just an inherent issue with VOIP or if that is Comcast doing anti-competitive stuff.

    Moin!

Nice little ata, supports lots of codecs and even pulse dialing.not really for beginners though, as can be a bit of a chore to setup. Works great with VoIP.ms

I’ve had 20 years experience working with VOIP products ranging from very easy to set up (Obihai, MicroSip, Polycom) to incredibly complex and difficult to set up (Asterisk). The HT802 is about 20X more complicated to set up (because it presents multitudes of options most people won’t need to touch) than the three others I just mentioned, and a lot closer to trying to get an Asterisk server working than setting up Microsip or Obihai. On my home network that Microsip and Obihai worked flawlessly after entering 5 Voip parameters, the HT802, presents you with about 150 options (of which you just have to figure out the 5 you need to set). However, the product concept of this box is great – a self contained SIP/VOIP box that works with legacy phone equipment, and the hardware is very nice and the price is reasonable. So I’m giving it 4 stars in spite of taking several hours to get this box working, with enough technical skills to deal with a complex not very user friendly admin screens, DHCP static leases and port forwarding and firewall rules.

    What worked for me:
    – Enter the 4 parameters you get from your VOIP service provider. The fields I entered on the “FXS Port Page”
    – Primary SIP Server
    – SIP User ID
    – Authenticate User ID (same value as SIP User ID)
    – Authenticate Password
    – Name (you can give it whatever name you want)
    – upgrade the firmware to the latest (it’s hard to find the little button to upgrade the firmware from your computer, it’s at the very bottom of the very long, very complex “Advanced Settings” page. Way at the top of this same page there’s a lot of complicated stuff about enterprise firmware upgrades that I wasted time on because I didn’t see the manual upgrade button WAY at the bottom of the page)
    – Upgraded the firmware to latest which had a new “NAT traversal — AUTO” option that I turned on.
    – On my home router I added a static DHCP lease for the HT802 so the local IP address would never change, then I could add a port forward and firewall rule that enables UDP to port 5060 to the HT802. You don’t need the 10000-20000 range ports at all as a lot of online sources say you need.

    WORKS GREAT NOW!!! 🙂

My VOIP provider only charges eighty-five cents per month for a phone number, and two cents per minute for calls anywhere in the US. But to get that deal, you need this device to allow a normal landline phone to work. This device plugs in to your router and can give you up to two analog phone lines with a normal dial tone on each line. Just plug it in to any phone outlet in your house after setup, and all phone outlets in your house will have one or two active phone lines. The setup with your VOIP provider and configuration of this device is a bit complex and might not work for those who are not familiar enough with networking. I had to have my internet service provider tell me how to open a port on the cable modem/router to get it to work. There is also a learning curve if you’re not experienced at networking and setting up a SIP service. But with some patience, the setup process is not too bad. Tech support from your SIP provider should be available to you for free. I could do it quickly and easily again, now that I know how. Once it’s working, you never need to do anything technical to it again. It just keeps working after the initial setup.

    Account Active: Yes
    Primary SIP Server:
    SIP User ID:
    Authenticate ID:
    Authenticate Password:
    Outgoing Call without Registration: No
    SRTP Mode: Disabled
    SLIC Setting: European CTR21
Caller ID Scheme: ETSI FSK prior ringing with (LR+)DTAS
Outgoing Call Duration Limit: 59 (évite surfacturation >1h, dépend de l’opérateur)

I’ve spent probably an hour just trying to change the admin password. Apply… Nope Update…. Nope Did a couple factory resets and reboots in between. If it’s not taking that config change how can I trust it with the hundreds of other config combos? Sending back.

Grandstream ATA is a top-notch Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) that delivers clear voice communication with robust security features. Its easy installation and compact design make it ideal for integrating traditional telephony equipment into Vphone IP-based networks. I highly recommend this for use with Frontier 5g networks and Eero routers for home and small business users.

I got this to use with the VOIP MS service, and it works like a champ. It will even do encrypted calls. The catch is this: setup is kind of a pain, because if you spend too much time in the setup menu, it will log you out after 10 minutes. That’s a road to frustration really fast.

So make sure you set the login timeout to something like 30 minutes, because getting this setup for a service like VOIP MS will take some time.

Setup is pretty difficult for a newbie, too. The menus keep changing every time they update the firmware, and some of the choices are pretty obscure or hard to understand for normal people. You’ll probably need help from your VOIP provider with setting this up.

Make sure your provider supports this before buying it, because you may have to ask them for help.

It took a few tries to get encrypted mode to work on my VOIP provider, and when using encrypted mode, I noticed that call quality sagged just a little bit, and there was more delay in getting a ring on the test numbers I called, but it’s not a deal-breaker for me. I don’t know if it was because of this, or on the VOIP provider’s end, or what, it’s hard to nail down for sure.

If you don’t care about encrypting calls, the sound quality is great on VOIP MS.

This is a solid way to get your land lines into the 21st century. You’ll have to put a little work in on the front end, but I like saving piles of money on my land line bills.
