tl;dr: printer doesn’t recognize toner cartridge and refuses to print.
My printer reference: I’ve had this Brother MFC-L2740DW printer for under 10 years and I’ve replaced it with 3rd party toners several times.
My background: I am an engineer and I have built and repaired all sorts of things from electronics to cars and houses.
Getting the toner in the printer is about as easy as any other cartridge. This is to say, on this printer, it’s a downright pain unless you do it frequently. This is not a workgroup printer so if you’re doing it frequently, you’ve got the wrong printer.
The first about-30 pages printed without any issue. Then the screen showed a toner-empty message. The message cannot be dismissed, rebooting does not clear it and the printer takes itself offline while in this state.
I tried the little gear trick with the cartridge from the Q&A. This changed nothing after it was reinstalled.
I’m frankly slightly offended that a toner cartridge company makes me take off screws and adjust gears. Could this not have been done in the factory? Some of us may get lucky but we don’t know exactly how to adjust the gears perfectly. I don’t speak whatever language the guy in the video speaks so I don’t benefit from the commentary. The gestures make him seem like an engineer and they’re fairly universal, but also not very precise. His level of expertise compared to mine is clear by the fact that I got toner all over my hands while doing this (wash it off with cold water and soap, it is heat-fused so once it warms up it won’t come off anything) and he didn’t.
I’m off to try a different knock-off brand. The cost of three attempts at the lower price equals buying the OEM replacement, so long-term I’m better off with some experimentation.

I’m usually hesitant to use non-OEM toner, but my imaging unit is almost tapped out, so i figured the risk was very low. I’ve been very impressed with the print quality. I’ll update the review if anything changes (or id it runs out prematurely.)

Once I got the cartridges working, they work fine. They were also a good value. Unfortunately, the instructions do not match the cartridges in the box so I had some difficulty getting them to work. The company did reach out to help me out so I was appreciative of that.

Is not worth the money at all, l purchased this kind to save some $ but unfortunately is not good. I replaced it a little over a week ago and is empty already. Considering l don’t make that many copies per day please do not buy

I have only had this for 2 days but the problem I was having with heavy horizontal streaking and toner build up on the drum is now solved. A new Brother drum would have cost more than a new printer and I was on the verge of tossing this printer in the trash. So I am really glad to have found this low cost alternative.
Installation was a breeze. I was anticipating having to coax the printer to accept a new drum but I just put it in and it was working immediately.
If this drum even lasts a half a year it is still head and shoulders a better deal over the OEM equipment. And when it comes time to replace the toner cartridge I will definitely choose GreenCycle.
