Second set of Hoya filters, different size for a new camera. They are great quality, Hoya knows what they are doing

I got the filter kit primarily for the UV lens to act as a protector on my camera so that I don’t have to worry about smudges, dirt, dust particles, etc. getting into my actual lens. The UV lens does exactly what it’s needed for. I haven’t had a change to actually take pictures with the Polarizer or the ND filter just yet but I held them up to the sun to just see and make sure that they had the visibility of the filter capabilities and they definitely do show. This is a great starter kit as I’m new to photography. This works on my 18-55mm kit lens that came along with my camera. (If you don’t know what size to get I would recommend going to the Brand sites website and select the lens that you have or are thinking to buy and under the additional specs list it will list the size for filters) The wallet that comes along with the filters is neat but personally it’s too long for me. I like how thin it is but length wise it’s not for me. I may go look for another filters case and that’s just my own personal preference. Also the lens are brass bound (I believe) so it’s not cheap feeling and you are able to stack the lens on top of each other if you want to.

I’ve been using Hoya filters since the film days (35+ years) and they always fulfill their task with flying colors (No pun intended)! You can rely on them to add excellent protection to your glass investments, and are really good polarizing filters, without expending several hundreds of your hard earned dollars on filters.

Yes this kit is kinda expensive, but these are the “big 3” filters you need for video, and they come in a nice carrying pouch, and they fit perfectly on the front of my SONY AX53 camcorder:ย

Sony FDRAX53/B 4K HD Video Recording Camcorder (Black)

UV filter is for basic lens protection (from dust, mist, etc.) and possibly a *little* bit of bluish UV rejection at high altitude (I was shooting at around 14,000 ft).

The ND filter provides 3 f-stops of light reduction, useful for getting the lens back into the middle of its aperture range on bright sunny days (say from f/11 down to f/4). This is nice because (a) lenses are sharper in their middle apertures than at either end, and (b) if you want to shoot portrait-style interviews outside in the sun, you need to open the iris and lower the depth-of-field so you can have the subject in focus and the background pleasantly fuzzy.

The Polarizing filter can be rotated for optimum reduction of glare off snow, ice, glass, and water, and also to make the sky look a darker blue so that clouds “pop” more in contrast. Because it has two layers, this filter is thicker than the others. This is also the hardest one to mount on the AX53, because the top layer rotates freely, so you need to get your fingernails underneath to the “fixed” bottom layer.

On my SONY camcorder all of these rings work fine, although they are a bit tricky to get started. That’s a SONY problem — funky inset design for filter rings. Easiest to do with lens pointing skyward. None of the filters impinge on the camera field of view at wide angle. Although… if you’re moving around handheld on wide angle sometimes you can see a black corner when the optical stabilizer makes a big correction. Also, if you stack these filters (two or more together) they will definitely start to show some vignetting on wide angle.

Item described as new, however the UV lens was missing its protective cover, had fingerprint marks, and was dirty. Had to spend considerably amount of time cleaning. Seems like it was a returned item.

Good Quality filters as expected from Hoya “Tokina”. Very pleased with the various filters offered and the included case. I always bought “Tokina” back in days with my Canon AE-1. These are good quality filters and use them now with my digital Nikon D7200.

The CPL has a very dark tint and also decreases the image quality by creating strong glares especially when shot in direct sunlight. I’d prefer buying individual more expensive filters of better quality over this cheap set. UV filters are almost useless in modern day DSLRs, apart from lens protection. The ND free is the only one that seems to be decent of the lot.
