HTC VIVE Pro 2 VR System

You’re paying for picture quality, and this headset has it in spades. There is still a minute bit of frensal rings if you look for them, but as long as you are looking straight and at the sweet spot, you don’t notice them at all (which is the case most of the time).

I do recommend getting the smaller, breathable sponge mats to replace the sweat soaking native ones. They’ll increase your horizontal and vertical field of view, while adding a more sanitary option. The headset does get fairly warm in graphics demanding games. You’ll want to mod it with a small fan for air circulation, or have some form of fan blowing on you (which oddly adds to the immersion feel). However, the visual trade off is completely worth it.

If you have the extra money, get the Vive wireless connector with it, and 2 spare batteries. Should give you 6 hours of cable free fun.

I keep in HTC vive brand as my car in Ford family. Well I had vive, vive pro. Then I got vive pro2. What concerning the headset graphic is probably the best on market. Problem was shaking picture and sometime frozen in game. Returned through Amazon (very easy)
Then I got full kit Pro 2 from Vive Canada. Same problem.
This time I did not consider to return without trying to fix it. And : fix was simple, disconnected cable on head side and reconnected. It did wor for that session. But when after session I unplaged head from pc and tried again Igot the same problem. Anyway to make it short seems problem is not a cable itself. Just the connection between headset and cable I think. When I did the same disconnect /reconnect dancing it did work again. Then after sesion I did not unplug headset from pc and next session did work again fine.
Coincidence? Maybe. I like vive pro2 and I recommend this product. Just letting you know what you may expect.

120 Hz 4896×2448 with its own motion compensation that allows for usable performance at 120Hz on a 4070. It looks great and runs reliably. On/off button on the link box is a welcome feature. Screen detail is the best I’ve seen on a PCVR device. Drivers are easy to use.

The lcd panel produces grey instead of black. The sweet spot where image clarity is 100% is so small that you might miss it entirely. The cable isnt long enough to make use of a 5m x 5m play space. That said, every head set suffers from at least 2 out of 3 of these shortcomings, and unlike those other headsets, this makes up for it by producing a crisp resolution that looks quite good, and is the best you’re going to be able to render with acceptable performance with any card on the market (4090 as of this writing). Coming from a rift and then to a Vive, it’s nice to finally be able to use iron sights on guns, and to make out details on objects more than 20 yards away. This works flawlessly with valve’s motion tracking light houses. It doesnt play nice with steam vr, insofar as every time I boot Steam VR it gets a different idea about what resolution it consider to be “100%”. Finally, if you thought you could buy this and play on its native resolution without super sampling at 150% then think again. It will look like garbage, just like with your old headset. You’ll be rendering at 3,100 x 3,100 per eye just to get acceptable clarity, and 3,500 x 3,500 per eye to get something close to optimum clarity. And let me tell you, its worth the cost of admission. You probably won’t be able to play any modern game at 120 hz without sacrificing either resolution or settings. For example, in Half-Life: Alyx, with rtx 4080, with auto resolution scaling disabled, i need to tone down fog, shadows, and particles in order to play at 3,400 x 3,400 at 90hz, in order to get every frame drawn in time 99% of the time. So, check your expectations.

There have been serious wiring issues with the headset since about 8 months after purchase. Their customer support discouraged me from getting a warranty repair (which I definitely regret) insisting the problems were solvable by unplugging the device. This briefly fixed the issues, which have only gotten worse and more persistent. It’s clear my issues are known issues, are serious issues, and their customer support still discouraged a warranty repair knowing the issues were serious.

The headset display often dies (goes black) when in use for 30 minutes. The headset display often has rectangular flickers of purple static especially when moving the head due to faulty wiring. The headset has graphical bugs (washed out, ghost images) which persist for hours if the link box is turned off with the steam VR software running. Often, the headset display does not turn on when launching software (remains black). Shutting down the VR software usually bricks my machine, requiring a hard power cycle reboot (holding the power switch).

Usually, it takes about 30 minutes of power cycling, unplugging and replacing cables, and blood sacrifices to chtulu before vr finally works.

The vive software often checks for updates, installs updates, but then is not updated to the new version when restarted. No clue what that’s about, either, just shitty software.

The image quality is not noticably better than the regular vive.

These problems are absolutely unacceptable at this price point. The customer service was disastrous, knowingly misleading me to save the company a warranty repair.

For my next VR headset — anything but HTC.

Do not buy, just buy a cheap headset from a company not desperate to rip you off.
