Jargar Violin Strings 4/4 Full Set For Professionals

This is my first time using Jargar Evoke strings, although I’ve tried and used many other types. When I saw an opportunity to pick these up, I did so. I’m glad I did because these will be a go-to type in future high-end builds! Wow, these strings dramatically awakened a mid-nineteenth-century French violin in my collection!
These come in a nice, bespoke box, as opposed to the typical plastic wrappers of other brands. As expected, they are labeled G, D, A, and E in individual envelopes. The strings have sky-blue windings by the tailpiece and color-coded windings in the box. The E string has a clear tube for the bridge; this is nice, but you can remove it.
I removed the old strings from the instrument and set them aside; I’ll reuse them on another project. They are great strings. I wondered what was in store for me with this set of Jargars. There was only one way to find out. I followed the usual procedure to change the strings and make them neat in the box. Then, keeping an eye on the bridge, I semi-tightened them to a below-tune range. As usual, with high-end strings, I let them sit and settle overnight. I walked away.
The next morning, it was time for the initial tune. I slowly brought them in using the pegs for gross adjustments. In the process, I noticed that the D and A were extra stretchy, while the G was less so, and the E was hard. It took a while, and I was patient. The last thing you want to do is to break a string at this price point! Of course, I kept an eye on the bridge and adjusted it as necessary. For novices out there, you don’t want to tip a bridge, either. That’s not good for a long list of reasons.
Finally, I had the first tune. I played a little just because I knew the tune would fade quickly. I set the violin down and walked away again for several hours. This was par for the course.
Then, it was time to set the tune. This one should last for a short session. It did, although unsurprisingly, the D and A had the most flex. I drew a bow across the instrument and immediately noticed a real difference with the old set of great strings.
This old French lady loves these strings! They brought out the instrument’s potential—the E, in particular, was brilliant and powerful. Up and down the scale, these strings are excellent. While this violin is very good, these strings helped to unveil its true potential. They easily outplay me, hands down. I’d love to hear this combination from a gifted player! While I am mediocre, I can tell when a violin/string combo is dialed in, and this violin likes these strings much better than the old (similar price point) strings.
It is a truism in life that you get what you pay for. These are not cheap, student-grade strings by any means. These are for people who mean business. Try a set of these if you think your strings are holding your instrument back—these might be the answer you’re looking for. This was an easy review to write, an unqualified five-star review!
These are a great starting point for high-end builds and instruments. Highly recommend.

Regardless of your violin prowess, or whether you play a $100 or $100,000 violin you should use “good” strings on the instrument. High quality strings make all the difference and are arguably even more important for a novice than a professional. For a guitar, banjo, or mandolin you can purchase good strings for less than $20 a set. This is not the case for the violin. A $20 set of violin strings is not only inexpensive but they are cheap! In other words, you cannot purchase a “good” set of violin strings for twenty bucks!

I typically use Dr Thomastik Dominant strings which are available on Amazon for about $67 a set at the time I am writing this review. I am very happy with this brand and variety (Dominant). Other brands I like include Pirastro and Prim. I’ve never used Jargar strings previously but they are excellent. They are also a bit more expensive than the Dr Thomastik Dominants. This Evoke variety is presently selling for about $88 a set on Amazon. The description says they are made in Denmark but they are actually made in Austria. Same country Dr Thomastik strings are manufactured. I suspect they are made in the same factory but I don’t know for certain.

Nevertheless, There are only a few factories on the planet that have the machinery to make specific items. For example, car batteries! Regardless of whether you buy a Die-Hard, Interstate, or some other brand there’s a good chance they were all made at the same factory. Same is true of guitar strings. Gibson, Martin, D’addario, etc. are all manufactured at the same place. So I suspect the same is true for violin strings too.

Anyway, if you’re seeking an excellent string for your violin or fiddle these Jargar Evoke strings will not disappoint.
