These sandals protect your feet pretty well, around the house and on trails. They are not as good in that respect of course as solid hiking shoes, but they are an alternative, especially for summer. I will say no more on that, other than after wearing them now for 3 or 4 months I have really grown fond of them, and I am particular about my shoes. Open toe sandals are comfortable, but banging your toes is not, nor is hurting yourself because you wore an unstable shoe.

Regarding sizing, my foot is a 12, a pretty standard foot I would say. My foot measures 11 1/4 inches, exactly at the standard size 12 length. I have several pair of these sandals now, both in size 12 and 13. Both sizes work fine for me. I actually think I prefer the 12’s, they are a bit more solid on my foot. I expect to wear the 13’s more often when it is cold with socks, to give me a little more space. But I can wear the 12’s with socks just fine.

I have not trouble putting the 12’s on or taking them off, just push your foot all the way in and the heel strap will slide on easily. They stretch out after you have worn them awhile, I can’t tell much difference between wearing a 13 and a 12. In fact to test myself I put on a pair not knowing the size (I have the same color in both sizes). I guessed that I was wearing the 13 and I was incorrect, I was wearing the 12. I have also walked around with a 12 on one foot and a 13 on the other. I found no major difference between the two feet.

I also have the leather version in size 12, they seem just a little bigger than the polyester but not enough to matter much.

In summary, at least for me, the issue people have about sizing is very overblown. I would get a 12 1/2 if it existed, but I have often felt that way with other shoes. For me it is either a 12 or 13, and generally I prefer the 12. I have enough toe room in the size 12 of these sandals, they fit fine, around the house, walking trails with my dogs, and of course in the water. They really do dry out fast, If they get wet I just let them dry and put on a different pair.

5/5/23….I still feel the same after wearing these pretty much constantly for a few months. You may think that there is not enough toe room because you may feel some sensation at the toe at times. My bigger sized 13’s have that same sensation, that is just due to the rubber caps at the toe. I feel no pressure on my toes walking down steep hills, that is the acid test for toe room. I definitely prefer the 12’s to the 13’s. They stretch out and the 13’s can feel just a bit loose. But the 13’s are fine, I can wear either with no complaints.

6/26/23…Still feel the same, I have a pretty standard size 12 foot, size 12 in this shoe works well for me. I have size 13 as well but will use those with socks when it is cold, I like the better stability of the size 12. I really love these shoes. I put on an open toe sandal yesterday for the first time in awhile, yeah more comfortable, but banged my exposed foot twice, and that hurts. I am sold on the closed toe. You have to take the shoe off when you get little pebbles or something inside the shoe, but they slide off and on easily. Great in the water, I have never had pain from banding my foot walking the trails with my dogs since I started wearing them, and they really have good support. Dry quickly after being in the lake.

I had a pair of sandals for like 12 years and they finally packed in. So had a look to see what I could get for a holiday that’s coming up soon. Saw Keen sandals. At first I thought quite pricey but this pair were only $83!! Much savings! So thought ok a bit colourful but I’ll buy them!

Wore them on a dog walk this evening and first impression very good build quality and comfortable and well worth the savings I made against a ‘normal’ pair.

I think the soles of these hiking sandals are just too hard for us older gentlemen…

I’m 62, and pretty active. I work from home so I can exercise every morning, and every afternoon alternate between walking 1.25 miles on pavement and swimming 3/4 miles.

The first time I walked the 1.25 miles in these sandals I got a hot spot on the outside of my right little toe. No problem… my bad… I should have worn socks the first long walk to stretch these out a little and smooth any rough spots. The next two 1.25 mile walks I wore socks, and 15-20 miles later, the hot spot has not came back.

But, also the first 1.25 mile walk I had a very sore arch in my left foot and both hip joints were sore. I tried different walking styles and wore the sandals around the house to get them broken in. Well, after 15-20 miles, I’ve decided that the soles are just too hard. I think the hard soles make me pound my feet down when I walk, which is causing the sore hips. This has also pulled that tendon in the arch of my left foot. And, neither pain is going away completely… the pain is slightly better, but not enough.

I don’t think I have weird feet, or am prone to foot/walking issues. I normally wear Merrell’s and also wear Teva and Sperry sandals, so I can handle arches or no arches just fine.

I’ve heard that as we age we lose fat padding in our hands and feet. I think that lack of natural padding and these hard soles are just a bad combination. So, if you’re approaching gray beard age, these might not be the best choice. My wife really likes hers, but she hasn’t walked as far as I have yet. I thought about adding an insert for padding, but with the somewhat open heel, I thought the insert might shift around too much.

So, I just finished my first 1.25 mile walk in a pair of Teva Omnium 2 Sport Sandals. They are new and I wore socks. The Teva’s have a noticeably softer sole… not spongy, but just soft enough for my old feet. Not only did my hips do just fine, but the arch tendon feels just as good as when I started the walk. I think I’ll have to early retire the Keen’s.

Other than the hard sole of the Keen’s:
Both the Teva’s and the Keen’s are great looking and feeling hiking sandals. We wanted hiking sandals for an upcoming active trip to Costa Rica. Either of these are perfect for that type of trip IMHO. I wore the Keen’s on a kayaking outing last weekend. Had to carry the kayak over wet rocks a bit and the Keen’s were great… they had solid grip and I didn’t feel the rocks through the soles. The next morning they weren’t quite dry, but close. They’re a little hard to get on, but you quickly get used to pulling that back strap really hard to get them over your heel. They fit snug which is what you want for hiking up and down hills.

So, wear socks the first mile or so… and if it feels like you’re pounding your feet down when you walk, these Keen soles are probably too hard for you as well.

I picked up the smokey bear smore keens early in the summer and now the monochrome grey. Smokeys are a little goofy and I assumed the monochrome would be as well. The four different materials are a surprisingly good color match that looks “relatively” stylish and down plays the bumper toe in comparison to a black bumper or smore bumper. Keen Newport H2 are great all day hiking in heat and salt water shoes. Extremely comfortable. Well made. My every day sandal/shoe. With daily 10 miles-ish active use, and travel: mountain, beach, boat, and long city walking. I usually get about 2-3 years before treads are gone and something frays. My Tevas never lasted as long. I read reviews that said they “run small” (I believe them, I guess) and are “hard to get into”. My experience is they fit me perfectly, I’ve been buying 10.5 Keen Newports for decades and 10.5 always fit me. They are a little snug to put on but once on they don’t slip, rub, or constrict toes that’s why they are great for all day every day walking hiking, no socks and no blisters.

“I recently purchased a pair of sandals, and I have been extremely impressed with them. The comfort level is incredible – The material is soft yet durable, providing both comfort and long-lasting wear. Additionally, the design is stylish and versatile, making them perfect for both casual outings and more formal events. What’s even better is the price point – these sandals offer amazing quality for such a reasonable price. Overall, I am beyond satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend these sandals to anyone in need of a stylish and comfortable footwear option.”
