First, it’s beautiful. Let’s get that out of the way. Although it’s only four-quart, it takes up more physical space than you might expect. To leave this out on the counter, maybe best to have a deep counter or a LOT of counter.
I bought this for a summer house. At our home base we have a couple of slow cookers. I mostly used them a couple of times a year to keep food warm on holiday buffets. More recently, but in the same theme I began cooking one-pot somethings on the stove for the family, and would then transfer it to the slow cooker, oftentimes already finished, no holiday at all! I typically just want to keep the Bolognese or chili or Broccoli & Cheese soup warm for whenever we’re ready or for whoever wanders through. One cooker has lately been out more than stored away, more useful overall as our cooking needs and styles have evolved.
When I began looking for a slow cooker for the summer house, I intended to keep it simple with a cheap, but functional and basic appliance, mostly (as usual) for warming. But this KitchenAid multi-cooker appealed to me. We tend to not cook for crowds in the summer, so the four quart size works. To be able to prepare the recipe without standing at a hot stove (summertime, no air conditioning) and having to clean an extra pot works. And to keep whatever we prepared warm for up to 12 hours really works. We come and go. I certainly wouldn’t leave the house or go to bed with something over an open flame, so this really does work for us.
Warm steel cut oats with cinnamon and apple in the morning, freakin’ perfect. Strawberry and Rhubarb Compote. Chili, pasta sauce, hearty soups and stews. As I type, the Slow-Cooker Butter Chicken recipe from this week’s NY Times is perfuming the house (Indian inspired, no butter, but with a coconut milk and tomato based sauce).
And let me add, one of the slow cookers we have at our home base is the Instapot Multi-Cooker. Although the KitchenAid doesn’t do pressure cooking (and mostly, neither do I), it does make risotto and yogurt, it can do any stirring for you if you buy the optional attachment (I did not), and it does everything else the Instapot does except much more simply, intuitively, effectively and with style.

Love love this Multi cooker. Really can saute properly before adding stock to meat of vegetables for a slow cook soup or stew. Clean up is a breeze.

Thank you Amazon 🙂 for super Fast delivery and well packed box! Since I got this item I used it everyday! I have cooked the following foods in it:
1. Pot Roast (a Must when you get this cooker). I used the “Slow cooker High” option and cooked it for 3 hours! But prior to that I used the “Sear” option to sear my pot roast and then moved to the next option. It came out hot and so delicious 🙂
2. Chicken BBQ: I did chicken breasts 4 of them with my spices and home make BBQ sauce, I selected “Slow cooker Low” option for cooking and it came out so amazing!
3. I used it to cook BBQ Ribs for the first time in my life… and it came out so good ☺. I also used the timer since I was not sure what time I was coming back home. After the timer was finished it went on “Keep Warm” setting automatically (big plus for me). When I came home, I had dinner ready and it was perfect temp. 🙂 (Don’t judge me it was 4th of July weekend and I wanted BBQ food) ☺.
Today, I am cooking Mac and cheese in this on “Slow cook Low” temp, as I am going out for a movie after work, but don’t want to eat out 🙂 So after movie I will be coming back to a warm comfort food.
To me it worth the money: Again, I have been using this cooker everyday for a short period of time and for now it is working perfectly and seems to be one of my best gadgets after my VITAMIX 750 in my kitchen. I am going to try RISOTTO Setting and RICE and so on… I will let you all know how it goes. If you are busy and you cook every day, like me, this will pay off. The inner pot is amazing I don’t use oil or even spray my coconut oil, and it is amazingly non-stick! It is so easy to clean 🙂
Do your research first before you want to buy anything specially an expensive item like this one, (I sure did mine). Ask yourself what do you WANT in a cooker? How often are you going to use that item? Does it save you money in long run? To me, the following characteristics were important to have in a multi cooker:
1. Manual control /option
2. Timer.
3. Keep warm for more than 8 hours.
Call me control freak, but I love to have control over my food’s temperature and this cooker has satisfied all my wants 🙂
Other things that you need to consider:
• The size is perfect for me (I cook for one). But I have cooked for 4 people in this cooker and it has accommodated perfectly (I hate people leaving my house hungry).
• The outer pot is beautiful and big so make sure you have enough counter space. I leave it out since I am using it every day for now, but I can see myself putting this on top of my fridge proudly as it is an eye candy 🙂 I called it my “Spaceship cooker”.
• The whole pot is not heavy… (I am used to lifting Le Creuset pots) so this one is very light compare to them. 🙂
As I mentioned cleaning the inner pot is a breeze, so is the outer pot. I just wiped it with a damp cloth after each use. The other pot doesn’t get HOT at all, which is another plus as I leave it on and leave the house (I only do leave it unattended when I do “slow cook low”). I don’t like to leave things unattended when I am out of the house.
Hope this helps you on your research journey to find your “spaceship cooker” ☺
Keep cooking good foods ☺
