Bought these for a Hofner Bass. They’re PERFECT
Dar Shadow –
Ya gotta love LaBella because they know the quirks of the Hofner violin bass. I went through 2 other sets of short scale flatwound bass strings & their ball end didn’t fit because it had silk on it and was too large in diameter for my tailpiece. And… at the headstock, the silk on 2 other sets spilled over into the fretboard area. Nothing but super dull tone if you tried to use those.
–
All those troubles never happened with the LaBella’s. Flatwounds are generally all the same price, around $45 or a bit more. But… only with flatwounds, you’ll probably not need new strings for many years! Gawd love LaBella because they make 2 different sets of flatwound strings SPECIFICALLY for the Hofner (short scale) violin bass. The strings fit perfectly & sound fantastic. I’ve got that cool 60’s Beatles tone out of my bass now & couldn’t be happier. DON’T try other strings for your Hofner. GET THESE & save yourself all the headaches I went through. You’ll thank me later.

Well worth the extra money.

Bought these strings for my Hofner Ignition violin bass. Easy setup, and they sound and feel great. They make a real difference for this bass. Recommended.

Mucha claridad, bajos definidos y ataque perfecto. Nada que ver con una cuerdas normales.

I have 3 violin/viola basses…A mid-60’s Hofner, A mid-60’s Eko, and a newer Epiphone Viola. These work well on all of them. For the older Hofner and the Eko I’m using the lighter gauge set for less stress on the old necks. The heavier ones are fine for the Epiphone. They fit the Danelectro Long-horn I have, but the E string is a little thick winding around the tuning peg. I’ve also put them on an Ibanez AFB200, but the silk extends just slightly into the nut on the E string. This hasn’t really presented a problem, since it can be removed, but you might not wanna mess with it.
These strings sound very nice, and the feel is very smooth and pleasant. Been using them for a few months now, and the sound has only gotten better. They solved some issues I had with difficult intonation and dead-spots on the Hofner. Sounds very “Sir-Paul like” now.

Las mejores cuerdas que he montado.
Mis cuerdas.

I love these strings! Not only is the feel smooth the sound is too. Gave me that 60’s Sound I have been looking for. Fit fine on my Squier short scale Jaguar. 4th string is a little long but works fine, just have about a half wrap of the full diameter string around the peg.

These bass strings were pretty expensive. I read numerous reviews online that these strings sound really good with the Hofner bass that I purcahsed and they do sound unique. I could play with these bass strings longer than with normal bass strings. They’re smoother and easier on my fingers. They look and feel different from normal bass strings so I ended up liking them for that reason alone. But at that price, I’m unsure if I will be purchasing these specific strings for my Hofner everytime I need to change strings. That’s just me. If you could afford the price, I’d purchase them every time. They do sound really good.

Perfect strings for the Beatle bass

The Hofner Classic, or any Hofner Beatle Bass is a bit different from other short scales in that the strings need to be a little longer due to the placement of the tail piece, the zero fret, the nut, and the tuners, than the strings you’d use for a Gibson SG bass. These LaBella strings are made specifically for the Hofner, and the flatwound mediums feel great and give the vintage tone the Hofner is famous for.
