Best mate for my LG OLED TV. Dolby Atmos is fun while watching movies and playing games.

Great sounding sound bar to go along with my LG TV. But you’d think when spending over $700 for it that it would include the optical cord with it.

After waiting a week for this to arrive by ground shipment, I opened the box, plugged everything in and checked out my new soundbar. This one had good reviews and I hoped it would work well with my LG television.

But it would not turn on at all. There are no buttons or switches on the bar itself. The remote is the only way to control the soundbar. Was the soundbar defective or was the remote bad? No way to tell. I spent about an hour with an LG technician who recommended I return it to Amazon.

Here is where I really became dissatisfied. I took the soundbar to UPS the next morning. I expected a refund of my payment right away as soon as UPS notified Amazon they had the return product. But no. Several days later, I thought maybe my refund would be there when the product arrived at Phoenix. No, they waited two weeks to process the refund. Then another week before the money was in my bank. This is a product that never worked. LG, themselves confirmed it did not work. What was Amazon waiting for? How many millions of dollars do they make borrowing my money and yours for weeks and paying no interest? Is Amazon hurting for money? Should I buy stuff somewhere else that might be in business next year?

I bought this sound bar together with the SPQ8-S rear speaker kit, along with a LG 83″ OLED TV. The TV is awesome but this soundbar is lacking on 2 points.
    1. There is no visible way to adjust the equalizer! In “AI Pro” sound mode, the equalizer is grayed out! There is WAY too much treble and not enough bass. Even a phone app music player has high, midrange and bass adjustments!
    2. The rear speakers connect right away (green LED on receiver) but nothing comes out until you find the “surround sound” setting buried in the sound bar menus! It has to be ON for the rear speakers to work. THAT SHOULD BE STATED IN THE “QUICK START GUIDE”, and in the manual.

The product was delivered in a timely manner and even though it is heavy, there were no accidents. I love the sound quality of the system. I was surprised to see the extremely neat condition it was in. It also had all the accessories. Cheers to you on a job well done. 10/10 in my view 👏🏽👏🏽

So you have to read the manual – and there’s some complexity there – or get customer service help — and they are pretty responsive — to know you need to connect into the TV set’s HDMI AVR (I might have a letter wrong there) port and you have to find the on-button and input button (They are a bit hard to find as they are recessed under the skin of the sound bar and I had initial trouble with my remote) and then set the input on the soundbar to OPT (which seems initially wrong, but if you wait, it will eventually scroll to say (OPT- AVR). I got it working, but when I turned some things off to move the TV to its permanent location, I lost the connection between my LG Soundbar and my LG TV. Turns out on the Advanced Sound Setting, you have to scroll down to the very bottom where there is a toggle switch (I forget the name) you have to toggle back on. So like everything these days it is complicated.

Now with the sounder’s upward facing center speaker, it does make voices more clear, which is helpful for us grandparents. In fact I had my eyes closed on the couch once and it actually sounded like a newscaster was in the room by the TV. Does not always sound quite that good, but it is pretty good. You do not hear the base much. This is probably a good base speaker, just judging by the weight and power supply. However, watching just TV, I do not think my Spectrum signal has the specific base range it needs. There was a suspense movie that I was watching, might have been Netflix, when I thought I heard thunder which turned out to be the base speaker picking up a decent base signal from that movie. Probably you will hear it playing music. My vehicle base speaker is the same way, needs that base signal.

We have really enjoyed this soundbar so far. Nice sound for a regular homeowner. Not enough for an audiophile I’m sure. Considering the price, I would say I’m pleased. I downsized to this unit to go more minimalist and save space. Had a 5.1 Yamaha system and I can’t say I miss it much. Bass is solid and overall sound quality is good. I imagine getting the optional wireless rear speakers would make this an even more ideal set-up. Be aware that keeping this unit free of obstacles above it is important if you want to take advantage of it’s upward firing speakers to get the best experience. I placed the unit in front of the TV instead of mounting underneath or underneath a shelf. Can you? Sure. Will you get the most out of the unit? No.

This is a review of the LG S80QY soundbar.I currently have a LG SP8YA soundbar with rear surrounds. The bar’s performance is fantastic and ownership of it has been troubled free. I decided to shop for another bar in a different room. Since sound bars are ridiculously overpriced there is no way I would buy one of these for $800 or $900 MSRP. So when I saw the SP8YA for $250 at Best Buy I couldn’t resist. I was so blown away by the soundstage of it I went out and bought the rear speakers as well. LG was having a sale last week and one of their vendors on Amazon, ABT, had priced the LG S80qy for $296, $600 off retail.Today,Whoot has it for $279. Hat’s off to ABT for their great prices well as 3-day free shipping from Illinois to Florida by UPS. Best Buy had the surround speakers on sale as well and I picked those up for $100.The sound bars sound very similar however the S80QY has a much larger subwoofer and also a center channel overhead speaker. I had to turn the sub volume way down compared to the SP8YA.The upfiring center channel speaker does make a difference in vocal clarity compared to the SP8YA which is excellent.Set up and pairing is a piece of cake for both sound bars.I recommend the LG app to control the sound bars. It’s great and very easy to use.BTW,I do not have an LG TV. For these bars to sound their best, the highest bandwidth you can feed them thru EARC Is the only way to go.Thank you Amazon, ABT, and Best Buy for making everyday tv and movie night more exciting and entertaining.Highly recommended.

I have an LG tv so I wanted an LG soundbar. My last soundbars was a cheaper, older non-Atmos Samsung and the sound quality between the two isn’t materially different. On the positive side the LG definitely responds faster to remote control inputs, doesn’t have moments where the sound gets distorted during action scenes (the Samsung did) and never cuts out (the Samsung did). So while the sound isn’t more immersive (it’s quite narrow), I’m happy with it for the price I paid, which was a lot lower than MSRP. The LG app is a nice feature too.
