Lorex Pan & Tilt Indoor Security Camera

Overall we are very pleased with this little camera. It is very accurate in picking up movement and gives us peace of mind that no one can enter our home without us knowing.

The camera and audio quality is fair. You can identify faces and you can speak through the camera but the quality is not great. When speaking the sound distorts a little so the person on the receiving end can’t always hear what you want to say. And although the camera records sound well, as soon as the lense moves you can’t hear anything because you just hear the lense moving.

Also, it’s extremely sensitive to movement so if you have pets it will pick them up constantly.

So in short. It’s the perfect cam if you have no pets and simply want a notification that someone just entered the room, it could also be a good pet cam if you switch off movement notifications. But it’s not a good cam if you hope to use the speaker feature.

This camera is very good especially it’s huge local storage size (256 GB). Other wireless indoor camera are mostly have up to 128 GB local storage.
The 2K video quality is great too, much better than 1080p.
There is 1 CONS, the Lorex Home App, very buggy. After I signed up to create an account, I did the logout of the account. Then I was not able to log back in !!! I tried a few times to reset password, still no chance to log back into my account with new passwords. I had to wait for a day or two and then login to my account again. At that time, I was able to login to my account. Also, “add shared users” feature was buggy too. My family member created an account and then accepted the invitation. Family member could not see the shared notification/camera capture immediately. Family member needed to logout and then login to their account first then they could see the shared notification/camera capture. Lorex website do not mention this step (logout and then login) in order to see the shared notification/camera capture.

I have owned one of these cameras for about a year and just recently bought two more. I couldn’t be happier with them. Some points which may be helpful…

I am currently using all of the cameras as dual band wifi devices (I use the same SSID on both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands). I have had no issue with the connection or the video quality.

I used the android Lorex app to setup the cameras, I then went into my home network gear to ensure that the cameras would always be assigned the same IP address by my DHCP server. (this was the only way I could find to statically assign an IP address to the camera)

I was able to add the cameras to my Lorex NVR to consolidate my recordings.

I am able to pull up RTSP streams from the cameras using ffplay and/or VLC.

Last note, under motion settings there is a Beta ‘Smart Track’ mode which can be enabled. This is brilliant. The camera will detect motion and do its best to centre the motion and track it. Rather than have a fleeting moment where someone passes thru the camera view, this gives you more opportunity to see who it is/was.

I have several of these cameras I have placed inside my home.
They have come in handy to let me know that there was an issue that needed immediate attention when my elderly father fell while I was out of the house. He could not get up or get to his phone to call me.
They work well and connected easily to my phone.

I also have the Lorex wired cameras on the outside of my home. They work well together.

Highly recommend.

This is the first WIFI enabled security cam I’ve owned. I was looking for one that had pan and tilt, no monthly fees and good reviews. This device has not disappointed. It took about 15 minutes to unbox and have it working. It was simple and easy to get going, and works as expected. What’s not to like?
