There are multiple glazing blemishes underneath the dish. They all are missing the glazing in these areas and are about 1/4″ in diameter with a bump next to each about the size of a grain of sand. I’m guessing they were bubbles in the glazing process that was missed by the manufacturer. The rest of the platter is in good condition.

I tried to contact the seller through their Support link on Amazon but it takes me to a Page Not Found on a support service called On-Site.

I’m giving this 1 star because of the blemishes. I see other reviews with the same issue.

It’s sad for the seller because if the platter did not have the defects this would be a 5 star review. It’s a good platter otherwise.

I’m keeping it because I got it for free to do a review. If I paid for it I would return it.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I received this item for free as a part of Amazon’s review program. But this will never influence my ratings or reviews. If it’s junk… It’s junk. If it’s a diamond… It’s a diamond. I will always be honest. I hope this helps you.

I’ve become quite a fan of the Made In stuff, and I just seem to keep acquiring more items. This platter is one of my favorite pieces. It will work well as a serving platter for Skinny kids, and we use them for this purpose all time. Perfect for veggies, rice dishes, or pasta. Seems a little small for a chicken, but could accommodate a few chicken breasts….half chicken no problem.
But, as a FAT man, I 100% got a pair of these specifically for use as seafood platters. They are perfect! Plenty of room for all kinds of goodness. They feel solid and have held-up well to some hard use. No fear of scratching with a steak knife. Dishwasher safe, but they are so prized that I still hand wash.

I love MadeIn … their products are some of my favorites.

Imagine my disappointment when this serving platter arrived with glaze abnormalities on the back/bottom.

I’ve had other Made In England glazed items from MadeIn arrive without any quality issues, so seeing these small points ( they are visible in two different places ) where the glaze isn’t perfect was disappointing.

The platter itself is great looking and the size is perfect for a variety of items. It’s the quality control of the back glaze that seems sub-par, especially at approximately $59 ( as of 9/2022 ).

I’ve attached two photos, but it was hard to get a picture due to glare and the color. I think you can see the spots, though. I would think MadeIn would do better, given their great reputation.

Their website indicates : A sign of true quality, all of our platters will have a pin, or beauty mark, on the back resulting from the glazing process. Each serving platter is suspended with pins so that the glazing can be applied evenly front and back. This process allows our serving platter to have a fully glazed back, which makes each piece more scratch resistant and durable.

However, as there was more than one spot on our platter, I feel it is a quality control issue.

Overall, three stars, based on the glaze issue and the price for the platter. To me, a more expensive platter like this one, should be perfect.

The media could not be loaded.

I have been replacing my hodgepodge of dishware with new dishes. Many of them are from Made In.

I love the 50s cafeteria vibe I get from them. They are thick, beautifully glazed, minimally shaped, and feel solid.

This platter has a navy stripe and looks great. I’m mixing up my dishes with plain, red rim, and blue rim dishes from the Made In line.

This dish is made in England. All of their English made dishes have pinholes on the bottom and this is from suspending the dishes on pins to glaze the bottom. Made In calls these beauty marks…I call them inconsequential. They do add a more old school manufacturing feel.

Overall, these are very solid everyday fancy dishes. The platter is a great size to serve 4-6 and stores easily. I have two platters and they stack beautifully…very compact. Their 10” dinner plates do as well.

If you want everyday quality, these are a nice option…but they come with a bit of a price tag.

The Made In platter is honestly about as good a (plain white) porcelain platter as you are likely to find. I have a number of pieces from Made IN, and have been consitently impressed. I ordered this because I thought their pie pan was so well done, and I looked at it and thought, Turkey! but no, think chicken. The photo I posted has the remnants of a Turkey breast on it, and that is about all it will hold.

Now I can not blame Made In for my having estimated the size poorly. It is, in fact, almost identical to a platter we had, and if I had realized that, would not have ordered it.

That said, this platter does not do as much for me, literally or figuratively, as the pie pan. There the ability to take it to almost 700 degrees was a real selling point. I made a deep diosh pizza as soon as it got here. With a platter that ability is somewhat less important, unless you work at a creative restaurant, and my daughter, who cooks for this years’ James Beard award winning restaurant probably has a number of ideas which I do not. All that said, my primary disappointment is that it will not fit a turkey, but Made In is very accurate in their descriptions. They did not misrepresent. The reason for my 4 star rating has nothing to do with quality, but with relative utility.

If, unlike myself, you do not already have a plain white platter the same size, it may well be a five star purchase for you. I have not yet seen anything from Made In which is not exceptionally well made.
