Some people dont like McAfee, but if you are carefull with the auto renewal its a good deal.
Paid $19.99 for this one one prime day. Normal price and auto renewal was $149.99 !!
Easy to install and seems to keep computer virus free.

I’m a fan of McAfee and have been using it for years. It makes me feel more comfortable knowing that my devices are protected. It has helped me with a virus issue in the past and it blocks questionable sites and scans your devices regularly. There are also features related to password protection and identity theft and it has a VPN option. It really is a thorough, total protection software at a reasonable price. I’d recommend it!

Updates:
Q&A says “version 4.10.0.0 or later of McAfee security software for macOS” would work with Big Sur. My version is 4.11 and still not working. I have Big Sur and recently Monterey, but errors kept saying “At Risk” for more than a year since the previous subscription, that gives an impression of Mcafee is not working as advertised. I did uninstall and install a few times but nothing improved. Identify protection says data was bleached and I have to change the account password, but I do not have any account there.
What is working:
Real time scanning, Automatic updates, Scheduled scans, Part of identify protection (Identity protection score) – go to your web account>Access your identity protection service. it does not slow my Mac down, while Norton slows it down.
What is not working:
Firewall, VPN in Mac (it says available but no function anywhere that is supposed to be), The early 2021 iOS app does not come with VPN; VPN comes with only the latest 2021 app, so it was not available until recently. Part of identify protection (Web protection), Web advisor (an error says at risk)
May be or may not be working:
Subscription (says your subscription was expired repeatedly before the expiration date- it is annoying to see the message “you are not protected”), iOS protection (iphone app looked like protecting initially, but it kept giving strange messages, including “no subscription” or “6 month subscription” when I have one year subscription.
Confusing is that unlimited VPN does NOT come with unlimited device subscription. I used up limited VPN in a few days, so it is useless. MCafee safe browsing is given an option that turns on as needed, but when I use it, Safari gets very slow and does not load some of the websites. To get an unlimited VPN, you have to get + VPN subscription (for example, 10 devices + VPN).

I have used this for a long time and bought this again for this year. Pros: McAfee has been the only one that does not slow down my computer. I tried Norton but it made it very slow. Others have other problems. The price is ok.
Cons: It does not look like working as computer protection soft. It gives me various errors, “subscription expired (this is new)”, “firewall not working with Big Sur”, “need access to the computer (it does have full access).” The main functions are not working and I am not sure about the other functions.

I’ve been using McAfee Total Protection for the last 4 years simply because it’s cheap and I have multiple computers and laptops at home and work. I don’t use it, but you can also use it on your smart phones too.
Yes, random pop ups are very annoying, but I’m used to them. I guess that’s why it’s cheap, just like those ads driven free android apps. This one isn’t quite as bad but still annoying.
BTW, here is the truth…
1) You DO NOT need credit card info to fully activate as mentioned by a certain reviewer.
Simply click the “Continue without additional benefits” link right below the Complete activation button.
2) You DO NOT need to uninstall the previous version to activate the new code as mentioned by another reviewer.
Go to your Amazon software library, copy your Activation Code, click “How to redeem this item”, click “mcafee.com/activate” link. Then paste activation code and type in your McAfee registered email to login. You can reset your password in case you forgot, or login using onetime code sent to your email. Once logged in you can select the previous purchased product to renew. Again, you do not need your credit card info. Once activation is completed right-click the McAfee icon at the bottom right on your computer screen, then select “verify subscription”. To be sure, open the McAfee app -> Account -> My Subscription. You will see your Active status and expiration date, which should be 365 days later. Now, use “verify subscription” on all other previously installed devices to renew. It’s that simple.
Lastly, don’t write reviews if you are not 100% sure, or simply you are upset because you don’t know how to install and operate. It’s actually worse than no review at all. I wish Amazon brings reply to comment option back.

I have been using McAfee for years and it has protected my computer. I do not like that if I do get a virus, they will charge to remove it. So, I have that covered with Geek Squad. Hopefully I will not get a virus.

Easy to use

Have used McAfee products for many years & have had no problems with online hacking … I hope to keep that record intact! haha I install McAfee on all our computers (desktop, laptop) as well as our cell phones, because we also access the internet from our cell phones, especially if away from the house.
Price is reasonable but we purchase a new plan each year, rather than the automatic renewal which is always more expensive.
My only complaint are the frequent notices that “your computer might be at risk” followed by “upselling” of another protection plan to “fix” that concern. If my current plan doesn’t provide protection from that issue, why does McAfee offer a lesser plan that is apparently capable of detecting a (potential) problem but isn’t capable of FIXING the problem?? That’s the annoying part. However, I hear the same complaints about Norton, so apparently that’s the norm for antivirus programs … fear-mongering & constant upselling.

Works well as a virus protection, however, the software scans for all sorts of things and when it asks if you want to resolve the issue McAfee brings up a window to sell you more software. As far as I know there is no way to turn this off. Will look for a new VP when this subscription expires.
