There’s gonna be a lot of little things that annoy you about this cage, but if you can’t afford to shell out the almost 200$ the Single Critter Nation (which i’ve heard is the gold standard of rat and other small animal cages), or need a foldable cage, this will suffice.
Similar to other reviewers, you’ll notice a lot of bent frames on your cage. It assembles easily enough but you may have to zip tie or use pliers to bend back some wires or there will be some gaps that a young or female rat may be able to squeeze through. The bottom floor grate is meant to sit on top of the bedding tray…which makes no sense. How are your rats going to interact with the bedding if a grate is in the way? If you’re handy with tools or have a lot of elbow grease you can trim off the borders of the tray and fit it into the cage, on top of the grate. You can’t really do without the grate as a floor because there is quite a large gap between the walls and the bedding tray that a determined rat can easily squeeze out of without using the grate as a bottom floor. It’s not a very deep tray so expect bedding to be kicked around.
The doors are decently sized for your hands if you come in at a good angle, but they open outwards and I wouldn’t really trust it to not open if a rat climbs on it, I would suggest buying swivel snaps to lock them securely.
Spot-cleaning might a little annoying unless if you open up the top, it’s hard to reach the corners of the cage through the doors. The ledges and ramps are all made of wire as well, you’ll probably want to put something over the ledges for the little rat feeties. I just didn’t use the ramps at all and used a bird climbing rope diagonally across the back of the cage they can use, rats are great climbers!
All in all, if you can afford it and have the room space for it i would probably suggest going for the critter nation rolling cages (those wide opening doors seem really handy for easy cleaning and interaction), but… for 70$ including shipping this can do the job if you fix it up a bit.

Love this cage. This is the second one I’ve purchased for my rats. The first one I purchased was for my first rat, 3 years ago, only reason I had to replace it was because I had a chewer in there and he managed to strip the coating after a year or so, which is great considering the damage chewy rats can do. This time I got the wider version as I needed to house 3 males, it’s perfect for them. Spacious for toys and huts and space pods galore.
Love that this cage comes apart for cleaning, and folds down compactly to be stored in our small apartment with ease. A tiny bit wobbly, but it holds together and none of my rats over the years have escaped. If you want to be extra sure you can always zip tie some of the edges together.
Overall I would recommend this cage to anyone with small pets. Only suggestion I might have is to remove the bottom grate, possibly cover the levels with fabric or tile of some kind, as the bare bars can sometimes create issues with their feet.
Great cage for the price 👍

When I ordered this cage for my baby flying squirrel I was very questionable about it, and almost didn’t get it. Most reviews are for pet rats, and as you can see, my baby flyer in much smaller. The other reviews mentioned that the cage had large gaps that they had to zip tie together, and that it was flimsy, and so on, but since it was the best I could afford on short notice, I took a chance on it anyways, and I’m SO glad I did!
The cage is very sturdy, the wire is bendable, but I believe it takes more force than any animal that it would be used for could put into it.
It’s a good size cage for the price (I got the smaller one), and my flyer loves the levels in it. I did cut up a shirt for them just so she wasn’t on the wire all the time, and left the bottom uncovered for easy cleaning. Which is a breeze with the pull out tray.
The wire spacing is fine. There is a SLIGHTLY larger gap under the doors and on the top where it clicks together, which I tried to show in the video by sticking my finger in as a rough measurement, but my flyer is roughly the size of a small hamster and there’s no way she can get out of it, so I don’t think rats or anything else could either.
Almost every review said that I would need zip ties for it, so I bought a bag with the cage, but ended up not even needing them! I did use some to tie the wheel and Pringle can to the cage just to keep them in place (and so I didn’t waste my money lol).
This is an amazing cage, especially for the price. And I would highly suggest it to anyone who is thinking about getting it. DON’T LET THE OTHER REVIEWS SCARE YOU AWAY from giving this cage a try like they almost did me!
Hope this helps someone.
If at any time my opinion changes on the cage for some reason I’ll write another review, but I don’t think I’ll need to!
