I’ve had much luck with Mequiars brand products, including the Cleaner Wax. My truck is outdoors in blistering heat and winter cold. So the paint takes a lot of abuse and I don’t wash/wax it frequently. I used this on my 9-1/2 year old truck and was very happy with how much dirt it removed from the paint and how smooth it made the paint feel. I had to apply it a couple times on hard areas, but it definitely feels like it will help protect the paint. I applied and removed it by hand, no buffers or polishers.

After a recent trip to Florida my wife’s new Toyota Avalon was covered in tree droppings. We tried about everything on it, finally arrived at Goo Gone for the first cleaning then Meguir’s 6 for the final cleaning and to restore shine/protection. I used this product on a 20 year old truck with nearly 200,000 miles on it. The truck has been used off road a lot and is no stranger to being muddy and flying gravel. The paint had become dull and cloudy, and it probably hadn’t been waxed in 10+ years. Before applying wax, I fully washed and took a synthetic clay bar to the paint. One application of M0616, and a fairly easy buff off of the product and it was shining like it was almost new. The truck has never been compounded or machine polished, so it has its share of rock chips, scratches, bird poo etching and acid rain damage that can’t be completely covered by a coat of wax, but from about 3+ feet, the paint looks almost like new after a single coat of M0616. After clay barring and polishing, I am amazed out how smooth the paint feels every time I touch it.

I usually detail 7 to 10 cars a week, including polishing, compounding and waxing. I decided to try out the M6 and see how it worked and boy was I impressed. It is super easy to apply (I use a random orbital polisher with applicator pad) and just as easy to remove. And when it does come off, it leaves the paint, in most cases, quite literally like a mirror. It saves me so much time because it combines 2 sometimes 3 steps into one, with very close to the same results. I still have to use compound for more neglected paint and deeper blemishes, but for 80% of cars, especially newer models, this works like a charm and can combine compounding, polishing and waxing into one.
I would still highly recommend claying the car, especially horizontal surfaces, before applying. It’s also important to make sure to leave the product on long enough for it to really dry and glaze. Finish the whole process with a spray wax, and you will have a car that looks like new. 5 stars.
