In an effort to be as concise as possible. The box indicates up to 7200Sqft coverage as noted in a previous review (well written and useful to help inform yourself if you choose to use the product. You’ll know the one I’m talking about if you read through them.) He mentions different application rates for new lawn vs established lawn. These are not on the packaging. The packaging and math would suggest 1800 sqft per package. The previous review suggests 1000sqft for an established lawn 1800 for a new, delicate lawn.
I call Miracle gro because now, as per the review, I get roughly half the application I was expecting – 1000sqft vs 1800sqft as described on the packaging. Several painful conversations with call centre reps which included being hung up on and people struggling with basic math, and offering me their personal thoughts on how they would apply it instead of factual information. All of these eventually left me unsure if I would under apply which is a pointless waste of money or burning my lawn by applying almost double.
I switched to email… I got a reasonable description which included application rates for established lawns (1000sq per package,) lawns in poor condition (600sqft per package), and new lawns (1800sqft). At least now I see the number 1800 appear somewhere, from the company which was never mentioned during my phone conversations in which I also received different numbers that changed between the three reps I talked to and none of which were consistent with the packaging. I know “concise” has become long-winded.
With all that said I was still left with inconsistency between packaging and the horses mouth. Who do I listen to? I returned it. Wasn’t worth the time and risk when I can just use another product with will probably yield similar results. Oh and what about my comment on Canadian’s? Well… based on the packaging I though great 1800sqft = a full year of coverage. Now I need to half that. Not necessarily the biggest issue until you realize this stuff is basically $100 bucks a box! Now I need two of them. I asked one of the reps and I think its mentioned in one of the other reviews this stuff is something like $17-$20 in the US. For those in the US who like this product would you pay at todays conversion rate roughly $75 US for a box of this stuff?
Hope that helps and I don’t doubt the product its self is probably just fine – most seem to think so.

I like this in the handy package which makes it easy to measure out exactly what I need. With Miracle grow it will indeed make the lawn grow. Highly recommend.
William Allen –

I just put on my first application for the lawn feeder and will update with before and after pictures. It was simple to use and suggest 12 minutes of feeding through the hose. I did notice that after the first 10 minutes or so of use, it seemed all the water in the container was still saturated in blue and I wasn’t even sure if it was working properly. However after 15 minutes of use I checked again the water in the container was clear and the all the fertilizer used up. Works as said, I was happy with the ease of use, now just to see if it works and I will update!
2 WEEK UPDATE *****
WOW, this worked great. My grass is greener, lusher and better looking than it has ever been in the last 3 years I have lived in my home. I live in California and it is averaging 94-107 the last 2 weeks and my lawn is thriving. I am watering on Thursday and Saturday nights by sprinkler and I was hand watering with diluted mixture of this product on Tuesday nights (it said to use 1x a month but I was using a diluted amount each week) and my lawn looks great. I was debating between re-seeding, or purchasing a bottle to hose connect fertilizer but I am really happy I purchased this lawn food and a separate miracle grow garden feeder attachment. I 100% recommend and its a great value for the costs.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCT! I use it every month. However, I do prefer to use the Ortho Dial n Spray over the MG Garden Sprayer. The object, here, is to get a 20 oz packet of crystals, and exactly 40 gallons of water onto 1800 square feet of lawn (based on one gallon every 45 square feet) using the Ortho Dial n Spray, instead of the MGro Garden Sprayer. I might be able to explain where all these numbers come from. Maybe, that will help some folks. On the label it says ½ oz (1 Tbspn) for every gallon. It also says that one gallon covers 45 square feet (SF). Think of it as “1/2 oz = 1 gal = 45 SF.” If you multiply all three of these factors by 40, you will get “20 oz = 40 gals = 1800 SF”. And, of course, it just so happens, the 1800 also comes from ¼ of 7200. Each packet is 20 ounces. That comes from the fact that there are 4 packets in a 5 pound box. Each packet, then, is 1 and ¼ lbs, or 20 ounces. So, what they are trying to tell you is PUT 40 GALS OF WATER OUT THERE FOR EACH 20 OUNCE PACKET. This is apparently saying that the 40 gallons creates the perfect combination and mixture. So, how do you get the 40 gallons? I don’t walk around with a gallons-used indicator. And where does this 12 minute “thingy” come from? Well, here’s your answer. It comes from the Miracle Gro feeder. If you do a “Bucket test” on this particular feeder, you will find out that it kicks out water at a rate of exactly 3.3 gallons per minute. You cannot control that. You cannot change that. There is no dial. Now, dividing 40 (gals) by 3.3 (gals per min) gives you 12.1 (minutes). So, that’s where the “about 12 minutes” comes from. By limiting yourself to 12 minutes, you are stopping the process at 40 gallons of water, the perfect combination. So, stop watering at that point. Again, this is for a NEW lawn where you are diluting the “medicine” because it is NEW. You are spreading it out over 1800 square feet. If you are working on an older lawn that says “give me all you got,” then don’t change any numbers. Just do it over a 1000 SF area, instead of 1800 square feet. It will still take 12 minutes, and it will still require the 20 ounces of blue stuff. That gives you more medicine, still a perfect proportion over 1000 square feet. Alright now, there are those of you out there that don’t trust that Miracle Gro feeder, including me, because (1) it leaks, and (2) with all that blue stuff left over after 12 minutes I don’t trust this feeder. So, how do I use the Ortho Dial N Spray? A bucket test on this gizmo yields exactly 2.5 gals per minute. Don’t trust the people that say “about 2 gals per minute.” It is 2 and ½ gallons per minute. Two gallons in 48 seconds works out to 2 and ½ gallons per minute. Also, 10 quarts in one minute works out to 2 and ½ gallons per minute. More new problems. You will never be able to get 20 oz of blue stuff to dilute into the Ortho container. You’ll have to split it in half, and do your lawn twice. Plus, because it only kicks out 2.5 gallons per minute, that means it will take you sixteen minutes (instead of about 12) to whittle through a 20 ounce packet. I also limit myself to 10 ounces of blue stuff in the container with 32 ounces of water, and do the same 1000 square foot area twice at 8 minutes each. Granted, this is not practical if you have 5000 square feet of lawn or more. So, spread it out over a couple of days! Do what you gotta do to get 20 ounces on 1000 square feet using 40 gallons of water. That WILL take 12 minutes using the Miracle Gro garden feeder, or 16 minutes using the Dial N Spray.
