I have been wanting an ice maker that made “Sonic” ice for years. When the biggest, fanciest, made by a well known company, and might I add, EXPENSIVE maker went on sale, I had to have it. I was thrilled to finally have a “Sonic” ice maker! It was huge, heavy, and expensive. It had to be the best, right?? WRONG! It made 2 1/2 batches of ice and stopped working. Because of its size and weight, it was difficult to return. I was hesitant to purchase another. I researched for days and finally decided on giving the Mueller ice maker a try. What a great decision! It is smaller, less heavy, and less expensive than the previous machine. The ice is perfect! In fact, I believe I enjoy the ice from this maker even better! It doesn’t melt as quickly as the other. It is the perfect ice maker for a small family! Our Boston Terrier even enjoys crunching on the ice!
    Highly recommend!!

I’ve had two of these. The first one, the compressor made a god-awful noise every so often and I’d have to turn it off for a while and let it sit before I could run it again. I let it sit for 24 hours after I got it to prevent any issues with the compressor, but that didn’t work apparently. I eventually sent that back and waited a few months. After reviewing several options, this still seemed like the best rated unit, so I decided to give it another try. I am happy to say that I have not had any noise issues, but this one has the same problem as my last one when it comes to the ice sensor. It detects that it is full no problem, but I feel like 90% of the ice has to melt before it kicks back on to make more ice. You can always come over and lift the lid and it will manually kick back on when you close it, but that’s ridiculous. The whole point of owning something like this is that you don’t have to worry about it. you should always be able to come over to it and see a full bin of fresh ice. I really wish these things were better insulated to hold the ice longer and I wish the sensors worked to keep them full if the ice starts to melt. Otherwise, this is a pretty solid unit.

Great icemaker. It’s quiet, it makes great “good” ice, it’s well designed – stylish – and everyone who comes over raves over it. For a family of 4, the capacity is fine. We have never run out of ice in our normal everyday eating/drinking. I haven’t had it long enough to run it through a cleaning cycle, but it seems easy enough to do. I am definitely glad I purchased it (and so is my wife even though she was a bit skeptical at first). The only time we use the ice from the refrigerator ice maker is when we load a cooler – you just can’t beat “good ice” that comes from this countertop unit! Makes me thirsty just thinking about it……

I really like the ice this thing makes, it’s perfect restaurant-level crunchy. I use (or used) it almost daily, and let it unplug and drain while out of the house for extended periods.

I bought this in late July of 2022, and it unfortunately stopped making ice this week. It initially was flashing the ice/clean lights really rapidly, which according to the manual indicates that it needs to defrost; however, after giving it time to do so and running a few cleaning cycles, it runs the ice cycle, but makes no ice. I’ve tried to troubleshoot it with various recommendations from the manual, but none of them have helped so far.

There are several reviews here that mention having similar issues with their machines, and others praising this manufacturer’s low-hassle replacement policy in similar cases. I’ve emailed their support team and am hoping to hear back soon.

Probably the longest I have ever waited for a product to be delivered from Amazon but I guess we can’t hold that against Mueller. One of the first things I noticed while unboxing is that there was sufficient warning not to use the machine for at least 2 hours after moving it, which some other manufacturers should try posting. This allows the refrigerant to settle in the compressor. After following the setup instructions to a T, I fired it up and crossed my fingers. Not silent but much better than the dispensing ice machine it replaced-that thing made noise from day one and kept getting louder. First step was to take a loudness reading-48 dBA-not bad at all. However, if you are expecting dead silence, it’s not going to happen. Even some of the expected noises an icemaker produces are very quiet (so far). I purposely waited a month before reviewing this product in order to realize any quirks it may have. To date, I have been very happy with my purchase. It was weird getting used to scooping ice vs. the dispenser but that only takes a couple of days to overcome. As for the quality of the ice-it’s darned near perfect. I’ve come to the conclusion that one of the things that makes Sonic ice so special is that it is just slightly melted. The design of this machine allows that process to occur without ruining the ice. If you need ice for a party or something else, I’d recommend emptying the ‘tray’ into an old Sonic ice bag or freezer bag so it can be broken up when it refreezes. It sounds more times consuming than it is. Which brings me to my final point about this machine-compared to the dispensing machine I had, this thing kicks butt. If I tried to fill a 44 ounce cup with ice with the dispensing machine, it would not work. Two thirds was about the most it would fill. The Mueller fills the cup and then some and it’s relatively quick at recovery.
Due to the quality of my water, I only use distilled but it does come with a water line and inlet for those wishing to use tap water instead. Just not sure how good it works with that parameter.
I’d have no problem recommending it to a friend!
