No se reduce mucho el volumen. Pero, de alguna manera… Permite controlar más el sonido del saxofón. Y me ayuda a tocar las notas más graves.

I bought this filter/mute to improve the response, tone, and intonation of the spatula key notes on my alto. I definitely notice an improvement in my low B-flat – the response is better (small, but noticeable), the tone is less edgy, and the intonation is improved (the B-flat was sharp and the product helps flatten it out). As for the other notes, the effect of the product is marginal – B natural might have a better response, but not C or C-sharp. That said, I have found this product indispensable and have used it throughout my college career.

I tried using this to reduce the loudness of my tenor sax, but I was unhappy with the results (effects on sound quality and playability) in all its positions. I returned it.

This is the third version of a sax tone filter I have tried, and the only one thick enough to stay in place in my tenor. It works exactly as described. The differences it creates are pretty subtle to my ears, but my tutor (a PhD student at the UT Austin music school) says it is doing its thing, and I trust him. Recommended for those who want their low tones to sound better.

Sirve para músicos exigentes que son muy cuidadoso en cuestión de calidad de afinación

I have been looking for an alternative to the aluminium mute I bought previously.
Being rubber this item stays in position in the bell, reduces the opening and is adjustable.
The best part is that people in the house have noticed a reduction in volume when I practice.
Recommended for anyone concerned about noise levels.

Can’t really tell much difference in the sound when I use it.

I bought this for my son who is a jazz musician. He tried it, but does not use it. Said it really does not make a useful difference. It does fit in the horn and is soft so as not to damage the finish. It is only a few bucks, so if you want to try it, you have very little to lose.

I got this hoping it would tame the low end of my Alto. I had problems with my low Bb being about 30cents sharp compared to the rest of the horn (common in altos). I decided this would be worth the experiment. It arrived and I tried it out using various positions of arranging it in the bell. I found that putting it upright rather than parallel to the bell easily fixed the intonation issues while being very transparent to the tone. I play jazz and I thought these would only be useful in a more classical situation and that’s definitely not true. It didn’t hurt my tone or projection and didn’t really change much except it did fix intonation while also making the low stack a bit easier to play. For the price this is well worth the benefit I got from it.

I bought the tenor sax mute to help correct sharpness with low B & Bb. The mute is solid rubber (my alto sax mute is made of tubular, medium-weight, foam rubber with the ends connected with a piece of wooden dowel and stapled). The orientation of the mute in the bell makes a difference so you need to experiment. I found the mute lowered the sharpness by 5 to 10¢.
