I was receiving audio from a mixer at my church going into my laptop via a Rokket device. I was receiving a hiss that I could not get rid of. This device was recommended to me so I purchased it and I love it. Easy to setup, clean, clear audio and great volume control. This was a good purchase.

I have replaced my Studio 26c that I got since September 2020 and I can monitor and hear my voice very clearly in line level. My 26c in Linux requires me to do trial-and-error and find out the correct gain setting so that I do not clip the analog-to-digital converter. If I’m using this in Windows, it’s not a problem, but I still cannot hear myself speak while wearing my headphone. As for my audio equipment that I mentioned in the review summary, my signal chain is as follows:

Audio Technica ATH-M50xSTS headphone with microphone connects to my Behringer MIC-2200 preamp via XML with phantom power engaged, then to my Behringer MDX-2600 which has an expander/noise gate, compressor, and limiter, and then to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface.

I’ll be using this for work-from-home meetings and this should do a lot better for me and I am very happy with my 2i2 audio interface. If you already have good audio equipment for your microphone setup like I do, just get the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface and you won’t regret your purchase. But then I would be happy with something like a 1i2 for meetings, but that audio interface probably does not exist anyway…

This interface is a bit cheaper than most of the known brand beginner interfaces you can get. It’ll get the job done and overall works well. Wouldn’t hurt to have this as a back up but if you’re serious about recording I might consider something else. If price is an issue then you won’t be disappointed in this unit. It’s built well, metal case, and overall feels sturdy and the knobs don’t feel cheap. Pretty good!

I’m going to compare this with a Behringer UMC which is one of the most popular audio interfaces in this category of low, low cost products designed for recording. The price range makes it great for consumers and musicians who are looking to make decent recordings on a budget.

The biggest thing to note is that the Behringer comes with drivers that minimize latency, allows you to adjust your buffer and enables loopback. Loopback is a feature that I often use when I want to record from a digital source that is playing on the PC such as accompaniment software or some VST’s.

This interface here works without drivers on Windows 11, but they are recommending a third party generic ASIO driver. This is a disappointment because the driver is crucial for making the interface useful for other things that you might want to on your PC as a music workstation.

That said, the audio quality is very impressive. Compared to the Behringer it’s actually cleaner with more headroom whether that be recording or playback.

The construction of the device is excellent. Better quality materials than the Behringer. The buttons are soft touch unlike the Behringer which are mechanical switches.

Overall if I were to recommend one or the other however it will depend on what you intend to use it for. If you just want something plug and play to record, this device is better for that especially given the price and sound quality. If your PC is also a music workstation, Behringer’s ASIO driver (especially loopback) makes that device far more versatile and useful.

As far as USB audio interfaces go, there are a lot out there. It’s pretty easy to get lost in specs and features. Most interfaces have a high sample rate nowadays, so what’s really important to know is how many input channels you need for simultaneous connection, how many outputs, can it provide phantom power, and is it supported by your software. I am not sure I would need a $200-300 unit and wanted to test the waters with something more accessible.

This interface has two input channels – one combination jack for XLR (microphone) or 1/4″ TRS (instrument or microphone) with phantom power which can be toggled on with a button, and one 1/4″ TRS jack for instrument or line level input (think guitar, keyboard, etc.) The second input is toggled on with a button, and there are independent, LED lit gain controls for each channel. It has a monitoring output in front for headphones (another button press and level control), and left and right TRS line-out on the back for powered speakers. The interface is powered by the USB-C to USB-A cable which also carries data to your computer. This is comparable to a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, minus some of the extra features like “air” control and SPDIF out.

This interface says it’s compatible with most DAWs. It was plug and play out of the box with my Windows 10 computer, and I was able to use Cakewalk to record from a microphone and Bias FX 2 for guitar with no issues. There are no controls for buffering with the generic Windows driver however, so I downloaded the well-known ASIO4ALL driver to make adjustments to reduce latency to a tolerable level for guitar tracking. Given that it’s compatible with ASIO4ALL, I would expect this interface to work with just about all audio software.

In terms of construction, this interface feels very well made. The enclosure is metal, all the jacks are good quality, and the controls have a solid feel to them. In my 20+ years as a musician, I’ve seen some cheap-o stuff with poor fitting jacks, overly loose or stiff potentiometers, and other jankiness. It might not be from a recognized brand, but it is not a cheap-o interface. The price is right, and so is the quality.
