A company like Panasonic shouldn’t do cheap products as this one. I would have given it more stars if it had a cheap brand but Panasonic, no. The video performance is marginal. Panasonic shouldn’t be doing this.
Anyhow the firmware is ok and simple to use and everything works as expected which reflects the know-how of a company like Panasonic. But overall disappointed, regardless of the price. I expected a Panasonic video quality.

This is a nice little camcorder. HD video quality seems good, and moving around in menu and files is fairly intuitive. For downloading files, I connect the unit via USB to my iMac, and the videos (shot in iFrame mode) pop up right away in iPhoto – import is quick and easy. Videos are recognized and played by Quick Time Player. Battery life so far seems reasonable, around 2-3 hours. I use a 32Gb SDHC card, which has plenty of room. The camcorder is fairly small and light-weight, which has both pros and cons. There is no light on this camcorder, so I bought a LED light for $20 that attaches easily to the bottom of the camcorder
(YONGNUO YN0906 Pro LED Video Light for SLR DSLRโฆ). Overall I am happy with this purchase.

Great video camera with good 1080i video. The HD zoom is really good and good battery life. Money well spent.

The camera is good and works well however it does NOT have ANY wifi capabilities ‘built-in’.

awsome camcorder for the price, easy to use and much smaller than expected, great battery life and well worth buying extra batterys for longer use. if your also gonna take alot of pics with it I found its best to buy a good hd card for good clear pics.

I really enjoyed this Camcorder. It has a good zoom, 38x optical. The digital zoom goes up to 77x, but I personally dislike any digital zoom. Digital zoom is so pixelated. It can take video and still pictures, and it can do both at the same time.
I like the picture quality, 8.9 mega pixels. My old digital camera is 10.0 mega pixels and other cameras even go higher. But I find the 8.9 is good for an amateur tourist like myself.
It can take up to a 64 GB SD memory card, so more pictures and video than a 32 or 16 GB card. Also a large SD card or two means you will be swapping out less then smaller cards. I pair this camcorder with the 64 GB card and a larger battery. When I used the Panazonic HC-V160 at the Kennedy Space Center, I did not have to worry about running out of memory or battery power.
I will end with some caution. I don’t see any build in light source or low light capability in this camera. So if you like taking video in the dark, I would suggest a camcorder with night vision. The HC-V160 is not water proof. Do not take it SCUBA diving. If you want under water pictures, Amazon also sells water resistant cameras. I don’t have any modern camcorder with these capabilities. So I will not attest to their performance. I will add links so you can take a look and make up you own mind:

In closing, I like the HC-V160 with the 64 GB SD (high speed) card and larger more powerful battery. It is good for the casual tourist or amateur videographer. It is not a professional set up, waterproof, and not for low-light situations. What it does do is handle the basics very well.
