I bought this reel for my wife. We have used it on two trips and must say that this model lives up to the Penn reputation. Built solid, and great quality for the price. Perfect for fishing off the beach or jetties for larger fish. Easy adjustments and plenty off power to reel in the BIG ones. The rod is great, good action and quality. I would recommend to all.

The Bad: The first rod and reel came in a rather large box with no packing material whatsoever! The box is probably 4 times wider than the reel and about 6 inches longer than the rod. When you’re shipping a large box, almost 7 feet long, it is going to get knocked around during shipping. With no packing material inside the rod took a beating! the tip was broken and the handle was bent.
Amazon agreed to replace the broken rod and the second box came with just a small piece of brown paper in the box. Again, no packing material to keep it from getting banged around inside the box. Fortunately this one did not appear to be damaged
Now, The Good: For the money, this appears to be a pretty good rod / reel combo. I wanted a rather economical set up to start king fishing off of piers and this looks like it will fit the bill. Reel looks to be well constructed, drag is smooth, etc. and It held 500 yards of 25lb Suffix Superior Mono.

This is my go to rod and reel for shark. We have caught so many sharks on this set up using 60lb mono. I have got the reel to hold almost 300yards of 60lb mono. This set up is a beast for saltwater big game!

Absolutely the best bang for your buck. There are a couple little issues. The shipping care was not the best. had some nicks and dings on the rod and reel. It does not seem to effect the performance. I Took this down to the pier for a trial run. I was shocked on its performance , in a good way. Could not believe how smooth this combo performed. I used 45 pound braided spectra with 30 pound mono on the size 20 rod and reel combo. It holds about 300 yards braided with about 30 feet mono. My concerns are small and go along with the price. You get more than you pay for with this combo. I would and will buy this again.

Re: Warfare #20N Rod and Reel Combo
To whom it may concern:
Buy this rod -reel combo at your own risk.
Recently, I purchased the above mentioned combo for a family member as a gift. Soon after, we went fishing and during use, there was no apparent problem. Because I liked the outfit, I purchased one for myself and one for another family member (a young boy whose grandfather was teaching him to fish). I have been a fan of Penn Products for > 50 years. I have Surfmasters, Squidders, Jig Masters , Long Beach, Sea Boy and other reels. These have lasted for decades with no problems.
Yesterday, I took MY combo fishing for the first time. After dropping the bait and hooking up (a small porgy, if you are familiar with the North East fishery) and beginning to reel the fish to the boat, the reel DETACHED leaving the frame assembly detached from the reel seat which was still on the rod. The reel came off in my hands and luckily did not go overboard.
Upon inspection later, I found that the real seat (the part that fits to the rod-this may not be the correct term but you probably know what I mean-3rd photo) is attached to the reel frame by press-fit plugs-not rivets or screws; i.e by friction. Apparently the plugs pulled away from the reel seat with the frame with the application of almost minute force. Luckily, I was able to borrow a rod and continue fishing.
This issue is to me an engineering and design disaster.
Rather than send it back to Amazon for a refund and getting another defective reel, or sending it to you (Penn) for another defective reel, I decided to fix this myself. I had already put this combo in the hands of 2 relatives, so collecting them and shipping them back is a non-starter.
Repair Steps:
1. Plugs (2nd photo) were tapped out of the frame assembly with a small punch and a few light taps with a small hammer. 1st photo.
2. The holes in the frame were slightly enlarged with a twist drill to allow #6 SS machine screws to bypass the spool upon insertion (I did not want to attempt to take the spool out which would have eased the job).
Note to marketing gurus: Calling this plastic reel frame “graphite” (whatever that is) is ridiculous. This is just soft plastic.
3. I used SS machine screws and brass nuts to secure the reel seat to the frame. see last photo.
4. I had to bend the reel seat slightly to accommodate the screws and nuts to that it could be attached to the rod. 3rd photo.
5. For additional insurance, I zip-tied the reel to the rod (not shown).
Would I recommend this reel to anyone else? Are you kidding?
P.S. VERY disappointed in Penn. Start making them in the U.S. again and I’ll buy again.

I haven’t physically tried it out yet I just put line on there 50 pound test 500-yard I figure some people out there might want to know how much will fit it looks to be very robust and really functional as far as being on a casket for small distances
